>Um, Polyester is bad, actually >Proceeds to wear a thrifted corduroy blazer that stinks like a 90 year old man while pulling his pants over his titsIs there any worse fashion taste than trad?
>>18266414I'd prefer to live life in all natural clothing but it's hard especially for certain items. For shirts cotton is the most common so that's not too hard but I was searching for a pair of rag socks recently and could not for the life of me find an all wool pair that wasn't too small, thin or had awful review scores so I ended up getting a pair of half merino half synthetic thermal fabric. There's probably negative effects on both personal health and environment but I guess I can cope and see it as a vice for certain occasions kinda like smoking or drinking.
This board used to discuss Vetements and Rick Owen’s and Balenciaga but ever since the /pol/chuds started spilling over in 2017-18 every other thread is about how to dress like you’re from the 1940s and which fedora looks better it’s pretty embarrassing
>>18266426have you tried donegal socks?
>>18266449you're nostalgic for discussion of brands you're too old to wear anymore?
>>18266449>This board used to discuss Vetements and Rick Owen’s and BalenciagaThey still do every now and then
>>18266458I think it's funny that like 80% of classic americana clothing is made in japan by japanese companies. There'll be shirts like "BIG JOE'S CLASSIC ORIGINAL M1A1 V8 WORKHORSE BASEBALL T-SHIRTS" and the company address will be somewhere in like Kyoto or Osaka. Probably not bad products by any means just a little funny.
>>18266449Wait, You mean Dark Academia makes people look like fucking retards?
>>18266548are we sure we're not mad that people still like harry potter
>>18266465its just a result of nafta destroying american manufacturing. there's still some good american brands, like the one in the pic. here's some of my faves:https://www.instagram.com/misterfreedomstore/?hl=enhttps://www.instagram.com/cianofarmerdenimco/https://www.instagram.com/tender_co/?hl=enhttps://www.round-house.com/
>>18266465here's another example of based resistance. this guy got pissed off that filson started making their tin cloth cruisers in ding dong land so he makes better ones for the same price in washington by mt rainier:https://tinduckdenim.com/
europe has some nice shit too.problem is the uk and america both have issues with the "made in xxx" tag being abuseable by fly by night brands using cheap immigrant labor. a lot of la brands use human trafficked illegals not just normal came here for a job illegals and pay as low as $1.50 an hour. made in uk has a lot of issues with fake ass imported bullshit using the label as well. etsy is full of it.
>>18266565>naftaMaybe I'm naive but I feel like there should be a way to have easier trade with other countries while still rewarding domestic manufacturing
>>18266548>>18266552That’s just it, Dark Academia would look good if you were at Hogwarts just like Ivy styles would look good if you were at Cambridge in the 1980s but were in 2024 and wearing it makes you look like a fucking autist
>>18266595various subcultures of the 70s and 80s dressed like it was halloween. subcultures will do their subculture things
>>18266599Yes but it was a new style at the time and came about organically, In the 1980s it wasn’t incels claiming if you didn’t dress like it was 1890 you were a Jewish tranny zogshill
>>18266465The US sold all their good looms to Japan back in the 70s
>>18266595Trvthnvke
>>18266580>while still rewarding domestic manufacturinglmaojust lol if you think nafta was passed for any reason other than to devalue american labor. really only an opinion a late millenial/zoomer could come up with. little history lesson even leftists used to have violent riots against globalization back when this stuff was happening: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Seattle_WTO_protests
I like stretch denim and everyone that doesnt like it can eat my ass
>>18266580if you're american and have ever gone ebay thrifting have you ever noticed how most of the clothes you get before the mid 90's are made in usa and how everything after the mid 90's is made overseas or in south america? manufacturing left overnight with nafta. destroyed the manufacturing base america once had.
>>18266741>just lol if you think nafta was passed for any reason other than to devalue american laborI never said that, I know that the industries in America got fucked. happened basically everywhere else too. I wish I could look at a label and see that the product was manufactured in the same country where company is. Maybe one day.
>>18266823I guess the only way of that happening is if manufacturing in places like China, India, SEA etc. somehow becomes too costly to compete with just choosing to produce the products domestically
>>18266574Yep, Italy must be the most Chinese country in Europe.
>>18266744i don't like stretch denimare you a pretty girl (male) by any chance?
>>18266459I maintain that Vetements was performance art and aping what Denma did at that time is completely missing the point. Current Vetements is now his brother aimlessly fumbling through similar ideas to what was previously done at the brand and people still buying into it for whatever reason even though the spark that once made it special is now no longer there. It also unfortunately goes hand in hand with those horrid archivebeast outfits that are just about wearing oversized faded black clothing with no cohesion.
>>18266414yeah I don't want to wear plastic bags on my skin, but you have at it anon, enjoy the free estrogen boost from it too
>doge meme in 2024god this board is embarrassing now
>>18266426Aran wool socks.>>18266414Being the sort of person who relies exclusively on thrifting is dumb as in order to actually have natural materials and well made stuff long term we need demand for industries that make it. The criticism is correct. It’s the response that’s inappropriate.Unironically bring back CC41 and issue coupons so people can buy some new stuff VAT free and/or with a heavy discount to get people dressing decently again. In England nowadays you’ll pay like £200 VAT on a decent overcoat unless you get extremely lucky and get something all wool from a high street fast fashion place.Abolish work uniforms in favour of dress codes and name tags or that thing they do at star bucks where they wear an apron over their own clothes. People will actually have to think about being presentable.>>18266566Based. We can retvrn if we put in the effort and try. I’m making some sailcloth trousers rn. The materials only cost me about £25 and that’s with VAT that I wouldn’t be paying if I’d bought them as a business.
>>18266449>REEEEEEE why don't us /fa/ggots discuss anymore about overpriced fast fashion slop meant for poor people who like to pretend to be rich????
>>18266574there must be like one guy who shills SEH Kelly. There is no other way to explain this boards sudden fascination with the brand
>>18271482what in the fuck is this?
OP is a plastics shill
>>18266414Yes, dressing in plastics, you sweat and we can smell it and you sound like a rubbish bag.
>>18266595It does look good though, like a lot of subcultures it just looks bad when the person wearing it is a fat retard.
>>18266449go back
>>18266565oh look a midget cowboy how quaint
>>18271389>Being the sort of person who relies exclusively on thrifting is dumb as in order to actually have natural materials and well made stuff long term we need demand for industries that make itAnon is 100% correct, just to expound on this a little: When you're a student and have limited income, thrifting as much as possible makes sense. There's also items that simply aren't made anymore so if you want them you have to find, or the companies manufacturing standards have absolutely plummeted but their older items were great. However if you enjoy a style and are financially secure, you really owe it to yourself to find a manufacturer that you like and support them. I think a lot of men get trapped in a mindset of quality costs alot of money, especially because in America the most well known brands people are exposed to charge out the ass for better made items. To some extent yes, quality does cost money but if you do some digging through you can normally find high quality clothes constructed well with good fabrics for very reasonable prices, but you'll have to do your research to find them. If you don't, there's no financial incentive for companies to continue to make things that you want.
