They will be whatever you want them to be, whether it's formal or casual. A light colored button up shirt and dark grey or navy blue trousers, along with black oxfords or derbies is all you need. There's reason why most dads used to dress like that until like the 90's and 2000's. They didn't have enough fucks left to give, so this was their uniform, so that they don't need to obsess over their clothes like women.
