Lads, it has certainly exceeded my expectations. Overall very fresh and pleasant, fits the role of a summer gourmand reasonably well. I could see this being great in high heat. Those almond notes really come through and round off the sweetness, not cloying whatsoever. The citrus opening is excellent but disappears almost as soon as it hits skin somehow. Will need to test with a proper full wear, but overall a decent release by Turkdjian

Thanks I didn't know this even existed. The notes sound like a snoozefest but they don't mean much anyway. Seems like they release all the lighter generic scents as regular privee and the long lasting and interesting scents on the esprit line. This is because everyone lost their mind when they released light floras for the asian market on the privee line which people expected to be heavy and long lasting complex scents. It makes sense but it also means all their best stuff will be on the esprit line.

Funny that you mention music since I do feel saddened by not having enough lifetimes to listen to all the good music, but I don't feel that about perfumes. Hearing and smell work quite different so I can, and have, listened to an artist's entire discography or all the top albums or songs from the same genre. Can't really go through every single rose scent the same way. There is more redundancy in perfume. I don't have the same desire to go through every single good perfume, I just want to learn about the different categories and find stuff that interest me. I have a big enough collection that I don't need anything else but I'm still curious what I'm missing. I find fragrances as more finite than music.

As far as signature scents go it's not a concept that works for me. I don't like wearing the same thing, I just have favorites that I wear more often than others.

My favourite scent ever was fleur du male by jean paul gaultier, but it's discontinued and I can't find anything as good, or as good as I remember it having been. Of currently available scents I like juniper salt by womo, but it has very little staying power. I guess I want something flowery but not sweet or sour. I also like terre d'hermes, but everybody is wearing it now, and it also doesn't have much staying power.
I was also thinking of getting something with petrichor. Never tried it so I have no idea if I'd like it, but I really love the smell of fresh rain.

Well, for petrichor you could try Baie 19. Neroli Intense might scratch the neroli itch from Fleur but the performance is mild and it's a simple and linear scent. You could also try H24 since you like Terre, though it's a little bit weird. Another high-performance floral would be Narcotic V. Orage could also be a solid petrichor play, but possibly out of budget unless you can find a partial or a decanter who does 30s or 50s.

musky chypre at the top with a smooth, green, leathery heart. dries back down into a rough patchouli/musk accord with some of the greenery still shining through. If you wanted to compare this to other frags from the 70s/80s era, this is like if OG drakkar noir, modern kouros, and equipage all had a baby. it's like if you took the archetypal 80s powerhouse and made it more sophisticated and elegant, rather than brash and loud like so many were.
If the rumors are true, and VC&A has kept the reissue formula mostly the same as the original, this is honestly something I will be tracking down to have a full bottle of.

crisper and a little sweeter than the OG green. if you took out a little tobacco and added some rose/bergamot, you have polo crest.
Now that I think of it (I still have it on my wrist) its more similar to Italian Cypress than the OG is, which is ironic because iirc italian cypress was meant to be a modernized version of OG polo green.

same as the modern formula, but mossier and a little bit drier somehow. not too different, but still good to try.

i always recommend Bois Imperial because it's a cheap and long lasting frag with a scent profile that is generally well-liked.
for petrichor though, Hermann is one of the best out there. the Geosmin note makes it smell like rain. it's an earthy rose smell. it's quite nice.
also can't go wrong with some classics like BdC, NYI, Pour Monsieur, etc.

most of my sampling Ive done through Luckyscent, and I think they ship to the EU also but I could be wrong. Lots of people hate the little 1mL dabber vials but I dont mind them, personally. once you find a few websites that work well for your area thats really all there is to it, just rotate between the same one to three sites unless you get into vintage collecting which is tiresome in its own way

alternatively, clothing and beauty stores here in the US often have a fragrance section with testers that you can just walk up and try out. maybe you have something like that by you

There are dozens of decanters, with some offering hundreds of scents, as well as highly-connected individuals who conduct split orders, preorders, group buys, and so on, all well below discounter price and tax-free. the 2010 formulation of Houbigants Fougere Royale may actually be a decent starting point. fougere royal was actually the *very first* fougere when it was produced over 100 years ago, but they remade it "recently" for modern audiences.
fougere marine from montale is also pretty neutral, as is b-618 from nishane (kind of)
dior sauvage, despite its advertised note listing, is actually a fougere as well amd very very common still

I think it's very unisex, it's just clean and intoxicating. At first I understood we have an expectation that women are supposed to smell like this type of clean but I think the smell is so potent that it speaks for itself. It's not something that is going to smell masculine or "blend with your natural smell". It is what you would expect some fabric softener to smell straight from the bottle. There is always a note I can't name that just calls me and pulls me in. Perfumery is most often praised for smelling a bunch of different notes but making a handful of notes ballet and morph is so impressive. It's just so interesting, even Maurice Roucel himself said he was more proud of it than Musc Ravageur.

Totally depends on your tolerance for boredom. Personally I need at least 16, 8 hot weather fragrances and 8 for everything else. I don't like wearing the same fragrance consecutively and with fresh fragrances they are more utilitarian so I want as much variety as possible. I want something for the heat when I step out the shower. When it's not hot it's more about exploration and entertainment.

Right, I got a flowery reply saying I could buy a bottle on the phone or give them the relevant data and they'd send me an invoice to pay by card.
I gave them a call and someone who felt like it was her second week on the job enthusiastically told me that they're ONLY available to try at their (one of their?) It's a spicy ambery frag with a bit of incense, quite close to Interlude Man but softer and milder (or more basic, depending on how you want to look at it).
I can't recommend it if you're looking for a frag focused on incense.

The ones I've considered highly but found not quite right were Babycat, Encens Suave eaudp, Winter Palace, Angelique Noire, Outlands (or more likely Terra), Black Opium edp (shame the Extreme is discontinued, it might have fit the bill), Spice Blend and every other frag in the incense infographic.

Pretty similar "airy" vibe, but RM is a bit drier and more floral, kind of like a richfag Prada L'Homme in the heart. The base makes me think of unlit sandalwood incense. I find LADAS a bit more uplifting and easier to wear.

What’s a good fragrance to pair with the scent of stale cigarette smoke.
Doubling down on tobacco is the immediate gut reaction but that seems silly.
I think I’d be looking for something more coffee focused to really hit that morning breakfast vibe.
Maybe something boozy instead since that already gets paired with tobacco fragrances.
Any suggestions? I’m open to alternative ideas that I didn’t mention.

I think you might like Eau Sauve despite it being a woman's frag, it doesn't lean feminine any more than Le Cri. What should I start with?
I'm not sure about classic chypres and fougeres, I like Antaeus but I feel like it's too dressed up and mature for me; Kouros isn't my thing on the other hand and as far as fougeres go I much prefer the GIT/CW dna
Overall I tend to prefer orientals

A few recent impressions.
Tiziana Terenzi Vele: More like "Vile." Initially, it smells like slightly rotten, freshly cut cucumber and makeup (is this what they call "powdery"?). It gets a little better after an hour or so, but overall, I didn't like it at all. Imagine trusting Fragrantica on notes.
Orto Parisi Viride: Harsh and spicy, mostly cloves. It could be good in cold weather. It's kind of like Ambre Sultan, but harsh instead of comfy.
Orto Parisi Risvelium: A bitter grapefruit pith/zest scent that lasts a long time. It's kind of like a good espresso for me—bitter but enjoyable. The thing is, I don't really want to taste the bitterness all day long. I don't know how to feel about this scent; it's polarizing.
Frederic Malle Eau de Magnolia: A pleasant, natural, and delicate floral summer smell. Turned into a skin smell in about 4-5 hours. Somewhat feminine but I don't really care about that if I like the smell. Overall, very nice. Too bad about the price though.

Without knowing any of this I would first suggest sampling the masculine Guerlains in the square bottles (heritage, habit rouge, vetiver, etc) as well as some Chanels like Allure Homme EDT, and some of the earlier private line stuff like Cuir de Russie and Sycomore.

Not really. If something is worth it I'll buy it. A mall not far from me carries some of the more well-known higher end brands like MFK, Lutens, Byredo etc so I can sample things there too

Its fine, nothing special and a decent year-round pick. It’s very heavy on iso-e. Very light and woody. Solid mass pleaser that isnt fresh or aquatic. But quite soulless compared to the original.
