ITS A BIG DOG WORLD,
Thoughts on Ben Johnson, on youtube, if anyone has ever heard of him?Basically his method is a top set backoff approach, where you increase the intensity each week in a training block. You start at RPE 6 or 7, then work up to RPE 9 over a few weeks, then reset the block slightly heavier. The back off sets are in the 60-75% range, and you keep the RPE low (5/6/7).And then you go ham on bodybuilding accessories. I'm trying to get to a 3 plate bench using this template.

>stalling on TM barely two months inI'm picking rock collecting
Chains feel like a joke , but I might be loading them wrong. Today I did 360 bar weight +63lbs chain per side (Yes, I weighed them) with one loop of each touching the floor at lockout so they don't swing all over and at the bottom they're about 95% deloaded minus the one used as a loop to thread all the others through, so I have no idea the true weight of it all but it didn't really feel like it was north of 450 at the top or much more than 365 at the chest. Anyway, it sailed up fine and I crashed into the right side j-hook and it's a combo rack so my retard ass didn't realize I was pressing one side into the underside of the hook and just gradually moving it up, I was wondering if somehow I misloaded the chain until I realized and had to guide the right side forward and then back again to get it off the hook and then rack it. Dumb shit, set up too far back on the bench.I don't really know how much this wave is doing for me desu other than letting me make a shit ton of noise with every rep from the chains jangling. It looks cool I guess? It's fun handling what is allegedly nearly 500 at the top I guess, but I can't see this genuinely getting me to a full range 486lb press. I did take a single at 405 immediately after stripping the chains off and it shot out of the rack and the bar speed was great, which I assume is the purpose for using this over just benching straight weights but if I loaded 486lbs of plate alone I'd just get crushed. Thanks for reading my blog post, always wear your squat plug and your mother will die in her sleep tonight if you don't reply to this.

>>76817631My problem is that I went from 1x5 to 2x3 to 3x2 from one session to another on OHP. Dunno if I should try to get more reps with the last weight again or increase weight which would probably put me in the singles territory. Bench press is going a similar route but at a slower pace. Squats and deads are going up pretty nicely.Perhaps I need a better accesory selection? Currently doing incline dumbbell bench press, dips, bicep and tricep isolation and lateral raises and face pulls.
height: 172cmweight: 205.2scent: nonemusic: Deloading and light cardio. Resting heart rate is dropping some/consistently lower now which is pretty cool. I need to buy a new jump rope.
>>76818906Two months in I was still increasing weights on a top set of five. Sometimes I failed to set a new 5RM, but I always attributed it to external factors, diet, sleep. It took me another while before switching to 2x3. I always tried to run every rep scheme into the ground before switching to the following one.
>>76819117post body
>>76810501what a zesty and shitty haircut lmfao
Ever since I started leaving at least 1 rep in the tank and usually between 1-2 I just feel so much better training. Maybe it’s just me deluding myself into thinking I’m just holding back my power level, but I feel like as long as I’m increasing my reps or weight only when it feels really fucking easy it feels like I’m just going from win to win every session as long as I’m still progressing on a biweekly basis. I feel like the whole overreaching/peaking type of training really only works if you’re trying to peak for a meet. Thoughts ?
>>76819248you just discovered that training to failure is counterproductive for strength, which everyone knows already
Anybody willing to share how weak their close grip bench press is relative to their normal [wide grip] bench press?t. bench 315x3, struggled doing 225 3x6 close grip yesterdayOn the upside I am making fast and consistent progress on close grip but it's kinda humiliating
>>76819168That's what I tried but I failed the 4th rep so I swithed to 2x3 on the spot. The following session increased thr weight but failed the 3rd rep, switched to 3x2 on the spot. Dunno if I should increase the weight next session, maintain and try for 3-5 reps or lower the weight to the 2x3 session and shoot for 5 reps. Side note, as lonh as I get 3 reps it'd be a pr.

Does /plg/ like rest-pause sets? I'm thinking of putting some in after my main sets to sneak some extra compound volume in throughout the week. Is it really as simple as throwing in 3x5 at 75% or something like that?
>tBench up to 132.5kg, new pr. Then 3x3 @110, then 8x102.5, 5x, 7x. Last 2 sets think I was just too fatigued after maxing, and I didn't give myself as much time to rest. Curls. Skipped diddlin because at this point the gym was packed, usually i go earlier and avoid the crowds. I'll do it tomorrow.>>76819456Been ages since I did close grip, last time I maxed out at 110kg, which was 10kg under my bench at the time.
>>76819848Hmm, it seems like my initial understanding of rest-pause (do a set, rest ~30 seconds, do it again, etc) is different from all the stuff I'm finding in other places. The stuff I'm finding makes it sound more like myo reps (which I do on occasion with accessory/isolation work).
>>76819475I never switched on the spot and if you go by general advice, you should try to avoid doing it. The switches should be planned, after a while you'll kind of know when you squeezed everything from a certain rep scheme.
>>76819984But what should I do if I fail reps?
>>76820329Retry the next time? I've never had to retry more than once or twice. Yes, the progress is slower than predicted sometimes, and it's usually due to diet and/or sleep, unless your working weight for volume day had become too low or too high compared to the intensity one.
