>Who is /fat/ for?
For Indulgent Individuals who are working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. No lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

Didn't pushed cardio hard today and I'm glad I didn't.

Two ways I can go about it now: Bump carbs to 300+ or chill in the morning and play through RE:Requiem. Tough call.

Lesson learned folks:
Respect your Fat Oxidation threshold.
You can't vegeta your way to a 6pack.

Any former fatty here who is able to do pull ups now? How long did it take you?
I'm 5ft8 172lbs, been working out for 4 months now (lost 28 lbs since start), and while my strength in rows is steadily increasing, pull up is still way, way out of my reach. I'm training with 22lbs dumbbells now (10kg); started with 11lbs ones (5kg) for reference.
>>
>>77115057
Never forget Brad Pitt wearing green camo pants and what looks like a red and white maple leaf printed shirt in Fight Club.
>>
>>77115502
I'm lighter now, but at 225lbs I was able to hit a single pull up when I hit cable pulldowns of about 140lbs. Roughly 100lb DB row for 3 or 4 reps, but it's hard to suss that out properly because that's the absolute max my handles will take without resorting to 25lb plates.

So say DB row 45% bodyweight? Puts you around DB rows of 75lbs. Very spitball, mind you.
>>
>>77115502
I still can't do full pull ups because they're hard
>>
>>77115510
And don't let that demoralize you. Soon as you stop cutting your rows will skyrocket.
>>
>>77115502
Pull ups are rough. Training your upper body is definitely helpful but if you don't acclimate yourself to the movement itself it will take you longer.
If you've got access to a pull up bar start doing stuff like dead hangs, or negative pull ups where you stand on something and leap up onto the bar then control yourself down, really focusing on that tight grip trying to "bend" the bar and activating your lats.
And of course there are assisted pull ups where you get bands to help alleviate the weight you're pulling up (assuming you don't have access to an assisted pull up machine)

quit caffeine, booze and nicotine
stay hydrated
exercise regularly
>>
>>77115684
Movements are not inherently strength or muscle based but rather a mastery of the movement itself.
It's why you can see a fat out of shape construction worker carry several bags of concrete like it's nothing while a body builder might struggle. Because he's been moving those bags of concrete the same way for years, his body is used to it.
You have to keep your body conditioned to the movement in order to do it well. That's why they call it muscle memory.
>>
>>77115684

Carbs and Proteins make you the least fat, because they both get temporary stored in states that aren't fat

Protein gets first stored as amino acids in the bloodstream and tissue (100-200g)
Carbs get stored as glucose in liver and muscles (400-600g)
And unless you max out those stores your body will not even turn either of them into fats
So its quite easy to not gain fat if you mostly eat protein and carbs and expend them on the daily

Only fat gets stored as fat
>>
Cold cuts are the secret. Mostly protein but still delicious

>the fat you eat is the fat you wear
I upped my fat because I read here low fat crashed your test and also I was struggling to poop on my last diet, which worked well but was mainly shakes, apples and lean meat, sweet potato and veg so i slowly added in fatty meats, peanut butter and whole milk and felt better but weightloss has stalled the fuck out. If i track, how many grams of fat should i aim for daily as a good compromise?

I already prepared for one week of -1000kcal and it's pretty easy.
>>

I also exercise first thing in the morning. I personally have a small carb snack (usually a banana and a cup of coffee) before running, and then my bigger 626cal breakfast with more fat and protein afterwards. It works pretty well for me. I don't know anything about fat oxidation though, so YMMV.

I've been lifting weights for a long time so I'm decently muscled/strong, but I've always been kinda fat, probably around 25%. Recently started cutting, and everything is going well.

I would say that I'm sub 20% now, but I experience I look way worse than ever. Everything is doughy. I am starting to notice a lot more separation and definition, but my core and back look especially bad. Anyone else experienced this? Fat Oxidation threshold is the maximum calorie deficit a body can handle by mobilizing fat storage to fuel mitochondria before it starts going after your lean tissue and glycogen. The magic formula is:
> 69 x total fat mass in kg.
In my case it seems to be 18.2kg of fat, so:
> 69 x 18.2 = 1257 kcal
I spent last 10 days going way over that limit. I may have been flushing weight but I was also raising my cortisol (stress), reducing my testosterone, lowering my metabolism, killing my libido, destroying my sleep etc.
>>
>>77116645
Oh yeah that sounds fucked, I wouldn't personally do anything that affects my sleep. But if it works for you, I'm happy for you.

If my weight loss is kinda slow (0.3-5) a week, is that more confirmation that the weight loss is ONLY fat? Im going gym 3 days a week fullbody, and my weights havent been lowering, theyve kinda stalled a bit however. Does that mean im not losing muscle and its just fat?

Or is significant muscle loss ultimately inevitable

I miss her. If you eat enough protein? Yes, the lean mass loss will be minimal. You still need to eat enough carbs to produce neccesary glucose for blood cells, brain, cortisol management etc. You also need dietary fats to get enough EFA because body can not turn stored saturated fats into Omega 3 and 6. When I look at my spreadsheet now I understand why my fat loss was so rapid when I was 120+ but then it started to slow down as I approached 100.

vitamins won’t make you ‘feel’ different unless you have a specific deficiency. vitamins can also take months before the body starts utilising them or they start making some kind of bodily improvement, but you won’t notice a change over such a long period of time. you can just take a multi + Vitamin D + fish oil and won’t really need anything more

>Weigh in at 250 lbs

>Next day 255 lbs
Ok whatever, I got a lot of food and water weight in me
>Day after that 254 lbs
>And the day after, 252 lbs
>Finally get back to 250 lbs 5 days later, and keep progressing normally
>Never get a whoosh effect dropping several lbs at once, just goes back to the same routine of 1 lbs every 2-3 days
How does this make sense? I know the logic of water weight and I’m still eating at a deficit the whole week so I know I’m losing fat, but a big salty meal will set the scale back and there’s never any ‘catch up’ to compensate, if I had not eaten the salty meal I would have been a lower weight one/two weeks on even though the excess water gained should have been gone by then

And don't forget to donate your old fatter clothes rather than trash them. Out there somewhere there's a big boy who will appreciate them
>>
>>77118338
Have you been with him for days? Like has he slept at your house?
>>
When do things get easier? Been going to gym for 2 months now but I still feel like shit for the entire next day every time I go. What’s the point of getting stronger if you still feel like a rusty crippled fuck the next day? Should I just stop trying to seek progressive overload and just do lightweights and cardio?
>>
>>77118314
Tirze/reta fixed this for me completely
I don’t want to ever come off because this is like being a normal human
>>
>>77118409
Who told you to do progressive overload while being a fat fuck?
>>
>>77118415
I've been avoiding going down that road because of the terrible side effects. But the fat is going to kill me anyways so I'm probably dead either way.
>>
>>77118409
If it ever feels easy you aren't working hard enough. Keep pushing yourself beyond what you think you can achieve
>>
>>77118416
Strength training which always gets recommended for fatties is synonymous with progressive overload.

>>77118421
That sounds awful, I wanted to get stronger so moving and doing things will be easier.
>>
>>77118431
>That sounds awful
You sound like a wimp. If lifting feels comfortable, lift heavier and harder.
>>
>>77118436
It’s not about the lifting itself but the pains and inflexibility the next day
>>
>>77118455
This is why you alternate between lifiting and cardio/yoga

you really need to watch yourself more man. You shouldn't be doubling your bodyweight as an adult. I've struggled with keeping all my weight off, but the worst I've ever gained is maybe 40lbs in a year.
>>
I love ketchup and bbq sauce and ranch and mayo and sweet and sour sauce and hoisen sauce and oyster sauce and W sauce and brown sauce and onions sauce and tartar sauce and Chicfila sauce and bang bang sauce and tatziki sauce.
All the sauces, all in my mouth every day. It's not fair, why do they have calories? They are just sauces, I hate this gay earth.

>>77118619
some of those sauces have far more calories than others

plum sauce has very low calories for a dipping sauce

For fat people ITT, how long does it take for you to gain 10 pounds? After two weeks of deliberately trying to gain mass, I only gained 9.
>>
>>77118723
>Only 9lbs
>31500 extra calories consumed in 2 weeks

Yeah nevermind I took off some clothes and it was really closer to 5 pounds.

>>77118740

>>77118743
>it snuck up on me until I jiggled in ways I didn't like
That's kinda scary, I've been stuck at my weight for a while
>>77118752
Is that naturally or deliberately?
>>
>>77118723
When I got injured and had to stop working out for several months last year I put 10lbs back on. That happened between September and December, so 4 months. There was a lot of holiday eating and relapsing into eating out a lot.
>>
>>77118767
>Is that naturally or deliberately?
If I ate whatever I feel like whenever I feel like I would gain that much weight.
>>
>>77118767
You shouldn't be trying to gain more than a pound of weight a week. The more you gain, the larger a % of what you gain is fat. If you want to look bigger, gain slowly and work out.

I've never thought to track something like that but I could easily eat 10k calories in a day if I tried so however long that would take to gain 10lbs.

Oops.
>If you want to look bigger, gain slowly and work out.
I've been working out and I've been worried that I wasn't eating enough to support muscle growth. Using a body fat calculator, my body fat looks like it's at most 12%. That's not bad yet though isn't it?

Good news, you can out it in remission without drugs. I've seen that shit personally it can be done, but it does still require monitoring and listening to your body. Cardio and low carb, a lot of water. I say low carb and I don't mean keto, just keeping your csrbs and sugars limited and avoiding sugar bombs. If you're holding up that lifestyle you should also be losing weight, you're lowering your intake and getting 30min-60min of cardio a day. Ideally just a light jog or cycle in the morning and evening. Nothing too high intensity is needed especially if you're FAT fat.
>>
>>77118962

i'm down almost ten pounds since changing my diet from mostly lean proteins, oils, and veggies (basically keto) to just veggies and occasional carbs with no protein, dairy, or fats for the most part. i was already skinnyfat and now i'm approaching lean. i'm not sure what my goal is. i want to get rid of the last of this fat on my body. i'm willing to take extreme measures to get there.

one thing is for certain- i am so fucking sick of eating nothing but vegetables all the time. it's filling, sure, it's healthy, okay, but it's SO BLAND AND BORING. and the cabbage farts are fucking killing me. is it possible to die from farting too much? because i'm starting to think it is.

next step- heavy cardio, frequent lifting, and we're just gonna get shredded brahs

my heaviest was 155kg, I got there by pretty much living off of cereal, frozen pizzas and potato chips in my teens and twenties
since then (2010 ish) I've been down at 105kg, then back up at 130kg, and now I'm back down at 110kg and being a bigger tryhard than ever before
chips is still my nemesis though but I try to make it fit my caloric budget

Get yourself 2x 50kg powerblocks, basic bench, pull-up bar, kettle bar, yoga mat and some elastic bands. Any AI will give you a decent starting program. Gyms are a waste of money at this point unless you really need that social experience.

I know there's another thread up, but hopefully you're still monitoring this thread. I was wondering if the ninja thing that all these people are raving about whips air into the ice cream that you're making. I have a problem with highly aerated foods, And I was thinking about investing in one of these, but I'm not sure if it is just a rotating freezer type thing or if it's more like a food processor.
