Just do a double hose set up?
Also get a proper split AC. They are not that much more expensive than mobile AC, and are way more efficient.

It literally works the same way as split AC. It's just not as effective because it's a single unit.

>>
>>102201669
Problem is when that 26C you're sucking in becomes greater than 30C. It's very inefficient.
>>
>>102201677

>>
>>102201650
Any idea how viable it is to cool down a small apartment without having to buy somethin for each room? The rooms are quite close together so a single set solution would obviously be really neat.
>>
>>102201660
ACs are the most power efficient way to cool shit.

The reason homes don't usually have one is because it's usually not all that hot.
The majority of Europe lives in a temperate climate.
>>
>>102201685
Nanomachines
>>
>>102201660
Maybe chain stores, MAYBE. I learned not to visit Europe during the summer. Public transit has no AC, every other small business uses a shitty fan thst sprinkles water.
I'm not even American. Power doesn't have to be cheap for an AC to make sense. It literally is the most efficient way to cool or warm your house (assuming it is not bellow -10C outside).
>>
>>102201691
>Nanomachines

>>
>>102201669
You don't really experience 50C in Europe. These movile units usually work fine in 5-35C which is all you need here.
>>
>>102201691
Oh wait I didn't understand. You asked me how would I feel, if temperature outside on east side would raise to 30. But my country never reaches 30. This wouldn't work almost at all. Then a real AC with complete outside condenser would be must.

>But my country never reaches 30.
Lucky.
>>
>>102201688
Sadly that is slowly but steadily changing from the looks of it, at least in my area it is.
35c is nothing to some americans, sure as fuck is a lot to my part of the region, especially when it's 30-35c at day over the course of multiple weeks.
A 30c summer day is nice and dandy for the outdoor obviously but not exactly fun over the course of multiple days.
>>102201704
Any store worth their salt has some type of AC going on, not just huge chain stores. Some tiny private store might not have it for money reason of course, but generally speaking plenty in my country have it. Chain stores or supermarkets tend to be insanely wasteful about it though, so there is that.
>Public transit has no AC
Dunno about France and the like but that comes down to the bus/train and such too. Trains are likely to have it at feet level, the question is if it's fucking on/working.
>Power doesn't have to be cheap for an AC to make sense
I'm far from an expert in this so I'm mostly spitballing so feel free to correct my stupid ass. But I'm pretty sure that people are partly just afraid of the added cost, with power bills rising each year as things currently are in some parts of europe.

My old ass hose windows dont really work for window units so I had 3 of the single hose ones, the vaccum it created pulled hot air in the bathroom vent, ok I just closed the bathroom door. Then it pulled hot air in the range hood vent - made the kitchen a sauna, it was insane, finally switched to the 2 hose version which fixed it. Single hose you are just fighting yourself because the hot air will be pulled from somewhere, and make the electricity bill go up a ton.

technology connections is unbridled midwestern US autism. I love the man, even if he's long winded.

in essence summarizing his video:

a window unit (that sticks outside) basically seals the cold part (inside your home) from the hot part (outside the home, exchanging out the heat from your air) with a relatively well insulated (via styrofoam inside the unit) barrier. this also isolates noise from the compressor, which is located outside.

moving to portables:
a dual hose unit uses one hose to take air in and another to exhaust it. it takes air in from outside, cools it, sends that cold air inside, and then exhausts it outside the second hose hotter than it came in.

a single hose unit can only use one hose to exhaust the hot air. since it only has one hose, whenever it's running, it takes in the air around it that it already cools and tries to cool that further. not only is this inefficient vs a stick-in window AC or a dual hose portable, that also creates negative air pressure. that means anywhere in your home that can make up air (cracks in the walls, the space below your front door, chimneys, etc.) wants to make up the negative air pressure by going through those spaces. meaning more hot air intrusion into your home.

single hose units work. they're about 40-50% less efficient than a dual hose portable. if you're striving for energy efficiency, one that goes in the window is more efficient yet. especially if you get a U-shaped unit like a midea that really minimizes the amount exposed between the top and bottom window pane.

Depends how small exactly buy you probably need two mobile units.
One is only good for about 25m2.

I cool an office space of 50m2 with two mobile units.
For ease of installation I placed both units right next to each other and then have fans to circulate the air around the office.
This works pretty well up to at least 33C (it never got hotter than that yet since I moved to my current office)
>>
>>102203862
One way is to get a board the same size as your window.
Open the window fully and put the board where the window would go if it were closed.
You'll need to add some clamping mechanism to keep it in place (bonus points if thunderstorm proof so you can leave it in all summer, extra bonus if burglar proof as well)
Finally just saw a hole and either stick the pipe through or mount some adapter to hold the pipe in place.
>>
>>102204050

Tape another hose to the intake area and point it outside. A 6" flexible duct hose costs like 10 bucks and it'll solve your problem.
>>
just bought a 2nd hose and some connectors on amazon
thanks guys
>>
>>102204168
Still wouldn't be perfect because then it sucks in outside air and blows it into the room.
So you get a positive pressure inside and once the room is cold you'll lose some of that cold air again somewhere.
Ideally you have a closed indoor loop and a separate outdoor intake/exhaust which is impossible if the unit wasn't designed for that.

Here is where all these pieces of shit fail. Even without leaks, the plastic hose becomes a huge radiator that heats the entire upper half of the room. So there is no net cold gain.
Some dude in yt fixed this by buying some isolating roll and wrapping the entire hose with it.

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioning, Inverter Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps are all the same thing.
They all work the same way: The coolant flow is reversed using a solenoid valve mechanism, so instead of absorbing heat from inside and pumping it out, they instead absorb heat from outside and pump it in. This works even if it's freezing outside, as even freezing conditions still technically have energy in the atmosphere.
And just so we're clear: The reversing function is selectable. They also work as standard air conditioners when you need them to.

I don't entirely disagree, the problem lies with his snarky, sarcastic, Reddit brand of humor in the first place. But, it is what it is. I used something like this to convert my single-hose unit into dual-hose.

I glued it to the bottom intake vents, sealed it up with clear silicon, and attached another piece of identical hose.
A huge difference it made.
Instead of the only cool area being just in front of the unit, now the whole room gets cooler.

The solution is to not care and to stop falling for fear propaganda. Entire weeks in August of all months, as well as today, the temperature has been in the lower 20s in your weird euro units. 70s in real units. lol, most European countries don't need aircon because there are only 2-4 weeks a year that are hot enough to warrant it. Our houses are built to keep the heat in because we have winter and the countries that have longer warm periods like Spain, Italy, Portugal do have it if they need it and/or they have outdoor spaces in their homes. Now get back in your trailer fatty, there's a building in every town in Europe that's older than anything in the US lol.

>this thing has basically created a vacuum in my living room because the room was sealed off and it was sucking all the hot air out
No, it's cooling the hot air and then sucking that out and blowing it outside. You should get a 2 hose unit next time.

Any air conditioner has 2 coils in it. One gets cold, the other gets hot. The hot one needs to be cooled and the heat thrown outside. A 2 hose unit sucks outdoor air in, uses it to cool the hot coil, and then throws it back outside. Meanwhile room air is sucked into the unit, blown over the cold coil, and blown back into the room. A 1 hose unit though lacks the intake hose. It blows room air over the cold coil the same way to cool the room. But then it blows some of it over the hot coil and throws it outside.

I modded an additional inhaust tube to mine so it sucks in the air for cooling the compressor from outside instead of from inside. This way there is no vaccuum and the air it just cooled inside used for cooling the compressor.
>>
There is literally no reason not to have an hvac system installed in your home. Even if you don't believe that humans caused it, the weather is getting more extreme every year. It adds value to your home. It allows you to circulate filtered air into your home during times of poor air quality.
Just fucking do it and stop being retarded about it. No one is impressed that you suffer in the heat.
>>
>>102227675
>>102227904
The problem with single hose units is they take the air from the room - air it JUST cooled down - and uses it to cool the condenser before dumping it outside. Then by continually pulling air out of the room it forces air to come in anywhere else it can, which means warmer outside air slipping in through the cracks, which is working against the goal of keeping the room cool. If the room is so well sealed that it can't let outside air in eventually the A/C fans won't be able to overcome the negative pressure and will be rendered ineffective. A dual hose A/C (if you must use a portable) is simply better since it both draws in and exhausts outside air, keeping the room air inside the room.

That's only because you have good insulation, and presumably the outside temperatures cool off to below 26° at night.
If you ever get a full week of >26° outside temperatures (even at night), then your insulation will only hold out for so long before it will reach equilibrium with the outside temperature. And at that point, having good insulation is actually a detrimental, because much like a well insulated thermos your home will retain the heat for awhile, even after the outside eventually cools down.
>>
>>102235647
I'm in a hot commie block apartment too, except a family moved in the apartment right below mine (I'll let you guess where from) and they cook their EXTREMELY stinky food that you can smell from the street (they're at the 8th floor) and I have to keep my windows shut because even if I open it a little just to check for a second, the room and any cloth in it (clothes, curtains, etc) will stink of their shit until they're washed.
I'm not exaggerating. Any time I open the window for a single second and they're cooking I have to go get changed.
This wouldn't be that big of an issue if they didn't cook at completely unpredictable random hours of the day and night.
Midday or midnight, 4pm or 4am, all equally probable, so I can't keep the windows open unless I'm in the room with half of my attention devoted to making sure I can run to the window and close it as fast as possible as soon as I start smelling something.
This has resulted in mold forming in the living room, which was a massive headache to deal with, and it also means that I have to sleep with the windows closed, which means that for the entire summer I'm permanently sleep deprived and can't work or do anything that requires even a little bit of brain, which has resulted in significant setbacks in my life.
Every summer I'm constantly evaluating if going to prison for homicide would be less suffering than enduring this.
Also I'm poor so I can't move or get AC.

As a Leaf who is forced to learn and understand both systems, I love Fahrenheit so much more for discussions like this because it perfectly ranges from
0F - Miserably cold (about as cold as most people will ever experience)
100F - Miserably hot (about as hot as most people will experience)

As a scale, it is really nice for measuring and discussing ambient temperatures experienced by humans.

>then your insulation will only hold out for so long before it will reach equilibrium with the outside temperature. And at that point, having good insulation is actually a detrimental, because much like a well insulated thermos your home will retain the heat for awhile
Just open some windows in that scenario if you want the heat to be released.

Yes, anon. Hot air dries things faster than cold air.

Here's my setup, found just the right size plastic container, and made an adapter for a hose from foam board. Though this only works with units with flat intake at one side. It has held up perfectly for 5 years, the aluminum tape adhesive is super strong.

I actually looked into it. They want 10 grand to lower my power bill to $200. It just costs too much. They gotta make the panels cheaper here before I consider it.

it's a climate thing
Americans live in warmer climate than most europeans

That's underselling it. Weather in US is way more extreme than in most of Europe. The mountain states will go below freezing in the winter and then turn around and have 100F heat waves in summer. That's probably the most extreme example, but wild weather is common here. The only real exception is California.

Keep the windows open in the morning and the evening and keep them closed during the day when it's hotter outside than in. It's pretty much that simple and it makes more sense than a) knocking down our houses (which are generally older than anything in the US) and rebuilding them or b) spending money on an aircon unit that uses loads of electricity and would only be used for two or three weeks per year.

I will admit though that our infrastructure will likely have to evolve in the coming decades as climate change becomes more and more of an issue.
>>
>>102238846
looool that's what get's me about people that can't function without AC as well. What do you think people in the warmest countries in Europe do during the few weeks when it's too hot to work outside... They go home and have a nap or chill out and then work go back to work after around 16:00. Ask anyone who works outside in Italy, Spain, Portugal, South of France, Greece etc.

Only works when there's actual cooling at night. I've had to endure 35° nights.

Those countries have houses built for the heat, with thin double walls that keep the inside cool. Other countries have ovens instead of homes. It's time to emigrate.

The two pieces are permanently connected by a rather strong connection with the coolant pipe, would take quite a bit of force to actually separate them considering doing so would make all the coolant leak out.
I put mine in a balcony when I rented a place that did not allow installing a proper minisplit though.
