Should I cop?
>>
>>102442772
The pc worked until yesterday so I doubt it's the bios not recognizing something
>>
We spoke a bit about RAM earlier. Here's my pondering now.
>have 2x 8GB 2133 KHX2133C14/8G
>have 2x 8GB 3200 KF3200C16D4/8GX
>want to optimise my setup
>thinking of getting 2x 8GB 3200 to complete the set properly
Will this be the best way to go about it?
I can't find the IC circuits of my sticks.
>manual says that 2-4 are the 1st pair and 1-3 positions the second pair
>look at HWinfo
>positions 0 and 1 are showing the 2133 sticks
I have made a mess of this memory setup.
>>102442493
>pcie slots for a m.2>pcie board
My mobo is cucked. It specifically says you can't use the PCIe when all other slots are used.
>tried it anyways
>SSD unreadable

Just get 2x 16GB 3200/3600 C18 or lower, AM4 RAM is dirt cheap now

Don't try to populate all 4 dimm slots, that's just asking for trouble, get 2 16gb sticks instead.

https://www.pcgamer.com/hardware/processors/amds-new-ryzen-9000-cpus-are-reportedly-suffering-the-worst-launch-since-bulldozer-thanks-to-disastrous-sales/
>Bulldozer, of course, came out in 2011 and was arguably AMD's biggest misstep in CPU design. Zen 5 is nothing like Bulldozer in architectural terms—it's a far superior chip and microarchitecture—but that's somewhat academic if it's not selling. Notably, both Newegg and Amazon's CPU "Best Sellers" lists seem to back up the broader narrative. On Newegg, Zen 5 simply doesn't feature in its top 20, while Amazon lists the Ryzen 9 9700X in 28th place with the 9950X at 32nd.

>Like we said, Zen is not a disaster architecturally. It's not massively broken requiring widespread RMAs (eh, Intel?). In fact, it's definitively a bit better than its predecessor. But it's not a huge step forward and that makes it rather poor value for existing users. To give just one example, the new Ryzen 5 9600X is selling for about $280. But the old Ryzen 5 7600 can be had for around $180. And in terms of the subjective computing experience as opposed to raw benchmark figures—be that in games or really any other application—you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart. So, maybe it really isn't a huge surprise that customers aren't queuing up for the new CPUs, is it?
I wonder if Bulldozer actually sold more chips in it's first several months of existence post-launch compared to Zen 5.
>>
>>102443065

I don't get it. They had 4 slots since decades ago.

Getting a 4x set is fine too, it's just mixing two sets, even if identical "series" that's an issue and even then, the only real issue you'll encounter in most situations is the ram speed getting fucked

Sure, why not. Hell, DDR4 is so cheap now if you have the money you could splurge and get 2x 32GB for 64GB RAM.
>>
>>102443653
???
You're not OCing anything other than the RAM.
If you get 3200MHz you still need to OC it to that speed.
>>

>>102443744
CPU overclocking is different than RAM overclocking. And in the same topic, GPU overclocking is also different.
You don't need to OC different things so you can OC your RAM.
RAM OC is just enabling XMP. Default RAM speeds are 2133, 2600 and some other one, I forget.

From a quality perspective, how do OC video cards work?
Are these the silicon lottery of GPUs with higher quality that have been tested?
Or did they just throw a little boost onto it in bios and upped the price?

Bit of both depends on how much the OC is. For the lmao +50mhz it is the latter, for the old msi lightning cards it was the former.

for ram, if it's supported by your mobo you just go to mobo & turn on XMP and then everything works at the rated speeds

still rocking a gtx 1070 but it is time to upgrade now, because I've just upgraded my monitor to 1440p ultrawide with 150Hz.
Since I don't play the newest modern games I was wondering if I should go the 7700xt, the 7800xt or the 7900gre route. Technically my 1070 can still run everything with 80-100fps at medium settings with slight res upscaling for the newest games.
I will play project cars, yakuza, god of war, crysis remastered, cs2 and so on.

The question is if futureproofing is still worth it. If I look on prices of used cards they seem to loose a lot less money than just a few years ago, 6800xt's still go for ~350-400€ when you can get a 7800xt for 500€ new. Maybe it is smarter to buy the cheaper card like a 7700xt and upgrade every or every second generation instead of using a futureproof card until it is basically worthless.

The pc turns on but the monitor isn't displaying anything, even if I connect it directly to the motherboard
It happened before, but usually taking out some parts and putting them back in salvaged it.
Not this time, yesterday the fans of my GPU started going nuclear even when games were closed, lagging even in youtube, until I shut down the pc and when I turned it on.... nothing

I have cleaned up the GPU, checked if some cable went lose, nothing.
Maybe it's the power source, maybe the GPU itself, but right now I can't pay someone to check for me so it's as good as dead

4070 Super is a good option if you can't or don't want to wait for the RTX 5070. There's really no solid leaks about its configuration yet. There's definitely going to be a fight in the midrange between Nvidia, Intel, and AMD, so midrange could be decent, but we'll see

I think they are a meme. For the price of that 1440p ultra-wide there are several high-refresh 4K displays available that give you more resolution and sharpness for the money.
https://pcpartpicker.com/products/monitor/#r=384002160&sort=price&page=1&D=120000,540000

If you want more immersion in terms of screen size you could get 3x27" G2724D 1440p panels for a nice triple matching monitor setup (effectively 7680 x 1440 @ 165Hz) for not much more than a single 34" ultra-wide ($170 each currently)
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/vyqrxr/dell-g2724d-270-2560-x-1440-165-hz-monitor-g2724d

Plus ultra-wide aspect ratio support is not guaranteed and the the distortion the curve causes I find off-putting.

In a word, excellent. RTINGS measured ~1400:1 contrast which is above average for an IPS and ~450 nits of brightness. Colors are >100% sRGB and 83% ARGB
https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/g2724d
HUB Tim measured motion performance among the upper-mid tier of displays he's reviewed at this point in this class of display:

As long as it uses a gas spring mechanism for the adjustments to the peripheral displays and is rated for a triple 27" setup, VESA compatiblity, and weight capacity (each G2724D is ~8 lbs without the stand accord to specs page and is 100x100mm VESA) it really doesn't matter much. Something like this for $60 should be plenty:

I updated as soon as it was released. Lost some performance and now my core frequencies are doing odd things like locking all P&E cores to 800mhz, locking at 5.3ghz and the rest at 3.4ghz, and other weird things. Probably a bios issue... but maybe not. Currently all P cores are set to 5.8ghz and E cores at 4.4ghz. If it blows, it blows.

Also, e-waste keyboard/mouse and discount 4K TV

What mousepad do I get? I'd like a somewhat thick feeling pad and I lean more towards a higher dpi if that's a factor. Preferably within 26in length and 10in width

Never got the point of this. Maybe if you're a technician who needs to consistently slot new HD for repairs and recovery and you don't want to throw those possibly compromised HD onto your server but even then just get an external rack.
>>
>>102450732
Good for you. I move away from internal 5.25" optical drives and just went external. I can fit more 3.5" HDDs in my case that way. 190TB total storage. And I can add an extra 7 3.5" drives if I want to.
I don't care if your spinning rust lasted 7 years, probably turned it off at some point anyways and not exactly 7 years. Mine has 50k power on hours on it and still works.
>>
>>102450905
This guy gets it. Hotswap gimmicks just adds another point of failure from the SATA controller on that backplane.
>>
Thoughts on this for a budget of £1000-ish? I've never built a PC before. I've been laptop only but at some point a man gets tired of how slow anything heavy is and feels an itch to play a video game with more than 2 dimensions. Would appreciate any pointers/ thoughts- would this be powerful enough to play "any" game I want at a decent framerate 1080p, as well as running basically any application you can think of fairly comfortably (I do a bit of cadding/ video editing and a lot of programming). I'd probably keep a windows partition around, but most stuff would be on troonix if that matters.

Why are you buying 2 1TB instead of a single 2TB?
Also the NV2 is not that great. I don't know the prices of the WD SN770 or Teamgroup MP44 over there but look at those
>>
>>102451003
Partly redundancy, mainly because I don't trust having windows on the same disk as other operating systems. It's been years since I've had to deal with it but I remember having to fix the bootloader after windows randomly decides to throw a tantrum/ reinstalling windows to the disk was a pain.

Good shout on the quality of the ssd itself, I'll look at that.

>>102445832
Mine just arrived. Are you running pesa1234's build or openwrt's?
>>
>>102451099
I run the stock firmware provided by GL.iNet with the Mediatek drivers rather than pure OpenWRT with the open source drivers
>>
>>102450496
pls respond
>>
>>102451143
any reason why? Do you prefer the UI of stock?
>>
>>102451200
Because I don't actually care about being entirely open source. I want my router to work and Mediatek's driver is the least buggy.
Though yes, the UI and the ease of setting up Wireguard and Tailscale is a bonus.
