Somewhat of a Windows question, but I'm having trouble connecting to a wireless device, more specifically those Microsoft Wireless Display Adapters via Windows+K (or any form of wireless connection). Any wireless connection is doing this for me as well, for whatever reason, and it used to work perfectly fine not even, say, a month ago.

I use a Windows 11 Lenovo ThinkPad for work and it just refuses to connect to any of those devices now. I've tried a variety of BIOS updates, firmware updates for the adapter(s), display updates, DISM, SFC scan, check disk repairs, plugging the wireless displays into direct powered USB bricks, different HDMI ports for the adapter, uninstalling drivers and restarting Windows, etc. I am at a genuine loss as to why I just can't use them out of nowhere.

Windows Defender sucks, just disable it. There are guides online for this (regedit or Group Policy), but do not forget first to disable Tamper Protection or your changes will get undone. Defender also has no CPU usage cap, so it will slow a system down at times by hogging too much CPU. And then just rely on Malwarebyte's Antimalware or whatever else you wish and add your pirated stuff to that software's exclusions list and you will be better off.

I tired syncthing and it didn't work.

It used to be the de-facto to get all MS stuff.

I've used a custom Win10 LTSC for the last 20 months with no issues. Today I got a BSOD and then Windows rebooted and started installing an update, which added in shit I had explicitly disabled in the fucking custom ISO I made, such as Cortana.
I sat through many many crash loops all with the note "critical process died" and then got back into the OS after 20 or so, and then did a system restore to 2 weeks ago.
Everything LOOKS like it did, but there are still scrap files from Edge etc. that werent there before today. Again, these are features I explicitly took out of the build I put together fora bootable drive, and yet they were slapped back in within 120 seconds of a crash recovery. What the fuck do I do to make sure this never happens again ,and that Microsoft employees are raped and beheaded by the thousands? I hate this goddamn OS sometimes

Oh yeah, it happened at exactly 5:00:00 PM local time according to logs, so this isn't a fluke with a driver. I don't have any updates enabled, and that includes drivers and no program can do it without asking. Very fucking suspicious.

It depends on how wear leveling is being implemented but it's possible that if you're aggressively writing and re-writing within that 50GB then those 50GB will wear at an increased rate (basically because wear leveling has a smaller area to level over) resulting in decreased lifespan of those 50GB. Update the error seems to be that there's a physical defect with the drive's nail. It's doing the clicking noise, and it makes sense that there's no partition information since no information at all can be read. those look fine for a hdd
get an ssd. there's a number of tricks you can use to speed up a hdd as a system drive, such as;
- make a small partition near the start to put windows and common programs in, hdd's are fastest near the start (as in twice as fast at the start vs. the end)
- keep it defragmented
- move caches and temporary file folders to a ramdisc
- turn off anything disc-heavy that you don't need, like anti-virus scanners, search indexers, etc
- if you have too little ram and hit the page file often, get more ram. in fact get more ram than you need anyway since any unused ram is used as disc cache

but nothing you do will make a hdd run nearly as well as an ssd, and they're so cheap now that there's no reason not to switch to one. windows since 10 isn't optimised to run from a hdd, last time i tried 10 on a laptop hdd was in 2018 and it was fucking awful no matter what i did

also, if he can't live with less than 1T of space and also can't afford a 1T ssd for it (or otherwise doesn't want to spend much on it), then consider moving the hdd to an external case and just keep the most important things on a smaller ssd. some laptops can support two drives as well, depends on the model
