thoughts about windows server 2024 or government edition?
As you know, microsoft noticed the ltsc lifehack and started putting their shit there too so I have seen some videos about the 2022 and so far it looked good so I'm waiting for the next release.
>>
>>102506525
For basic stuff yes, but keep in mind that LTSC is like barebones Windows, while Server is more like stripped down Windows with other kinds of features for companies and shit, you can make it work but the risk for something not working is higher there

Also, what shit are they putting on LTSC now?
>>
>>102506654
You then need network shares enabled, and SMB1.0 installed on the newer machine. There are guides to this.

Yes very much so. When downloading Rufus, get the release with p in the name for portable.

If you're installing on a laptop.
Do you recommend to keep the drivers up to windows to get the generic?
Or better go to the manufacture site and install the latest drivers?
Also
The laptop had fingerprint scanner, how to enable it, and how to get the camera app? Or any application that allow access to the camera? Windows hello?
Win10 iot ltsc doesn't have it.
>>
>>102517787
Install the OEM support page drivers will get certain parts of your laptop working again
>>
>>102517787
Nowadays i let Windows Update pull driver updates. Never had issues. For GPU drivers, i just download them from the manufacturer. OEM drivers are often outdated.

MPV seems iffy, if I have HDR enabled it looks completely off.
Image viewers are where im completly stumped though, the windows one has a bunch of ads on it.

>>
>>102517787
I'd say let Windows decide and if something doesn't work, use the manufacturer drivers

The reason is that generic drivers often do the job fine, and official drivers often have problems if your PC haven't been supported for a while, also official drivers often come with bloat

It could go both ways really, you have to find the drivers that work best for your PC
>>
>>102517787
I update with Windows Update until there's no more to update, then I run snappy driver installer origin. Sometimes windows update may install generic drivers or out-of-date drivers, so I'll install those first, then let SDIO decide the best driver to overwrite it.

I'm trying to use Powershell to gently (i.e. let it close everything itself instead of abruptly shutting things down) kill a script that runs in the command line. It's just called C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe in the window title, so IDK how to find it using Stop-Process or Get-Process. Is Stop-Process even the right thing to use if I want to gently tell the script to terminate? I know that Ctrl+C stops it fine, so if something replicates that that'd work.

This shouldn't be happening. I exclude everything else except my downloads directory.
For example, sometimes Empress' emp.dll gets flagged for example but I haven't had any issues with excluded directories.
Defender can get buggy and report old, already deleted threats, especially if it flagged a file inside mountable image.
It's bit too intrusive.

Somewhat of a Windows question, but I'm having trouble connecting to a wireless device, more specifically those Microsoft Wireless Display Adapters via Windows+K (or any form of wireless connection). Any wireless connection is doing this for me as well, for whatever reason, and it used to work perfectly fine not even, say, a month ago.

I use a Windows 11 Lenovo ThinkPad for work and it just refuses to connect to any of those devices now. I've tried a variety of BIOS updates, firmware updates for the adapter(s), display updates, DISM, SFC scan, check disk repairs, plugging the wireless displays into direct powered USB bricks, different HDMI ports for the adapter, uninstalling drivers and restarting Windows, etc. I am at a genuine loss as to why I just can't use them out of nowhere.

Unless there was a Windows 11 update that recently screwed that up, I do not know what else could be happening. Any ideas?
>>
>>102518336
Windows Defender sucks, just disable it. There are guides online for this (regedit or Group Policy), but do not forget first to disable Tamper Protection or your changes will get undone. Defender also has no CPU usage cap, so it will slow a system down at times by hogging too much CPU. And then just rely on Malwarebyte's Antimalware or whatever else you wish and add your pirated stuff to that software's exclusions list and you will be better off.

MAS uses KMS_VL_ALL's underlying code to make its own KMS activator but MAS's one is online-based while KMS_VL_ALL's is local. Though you could also use MAS's KMS38 method to activate which is the most hacky of the bunch because it basically just tricks the computer to think it's activated until the 2032 problem.

>If you're installing on a laptop.
Use the Laptop's manufacture drivers.
The generic drivers don't work for advance features even if it's new.
For example, Touchpad multi touch/gestures won't with generic drivers.
Also BIOS update is important.
Generally these drivers are OK to be old, we stuck into muh up to date because iOS IMO.
Most laptop manufacturers offer their own version of auto driver update for each laptop model, even if it's old and discontinued.
And if it's not, maybe windows isn't the right OS for it to be installed.

What's the difference between O365 and office 21/24
>>
>>102533529
Office 365 is constantly updated while 2021/2024 etc are frozen on a certain update like LTSC is. Yearly editions are basically just 365 snapshots these days as 365 is just Office 2016 retroactively turned into a live service.

incorrect, it supports lan transfers as well, it doesn't require an internet connection at all

I see, In other words Boomer proof.
And the activators work with O365 even after update?
Also how to get O365 offline for X64 only?
The latest O365 offline build is more than 5 GB because it has X68 and X64 versions.
>>
>>102533651
You can get Office 365 Pro Plus from massgrave and activate it with MAS's Ohook module and then you can use it offline.

>Asked it again which gave a slightly different answer for some reason.
Yeah, that's how these things work. You're not getting a copied and pasted answer, it generates an answer based on context.
For example, when you say "ah thanks, you're sweet", it knows that you're not saying that it tastes sweet, but that you think it's nice.
>but gave the resources that I was looking for
This is the only reason why you should use Perplexity. These things are prone to hallucinating unless you ask them to simply compile an answer out of existing text.

I've used a custom Win10 LTSC for the last 20 months with no issues. Today I got a BSOD and then Windows rebooted and started installing an update, which added in shit I had explicitly disabled in the fucking custom ISO I made, such as Cortana.
I sat through many many crash loops all with the note "critical process died" and then got back into the OS after 20 or so, and then did a system restore to 2 weeks ago.
Everything LOOKS like it did, but there are still scrap files from Edge etc. that werent there before today. Again, these are features I explicitly took out of the build I put together fora bootable drive, and yet they were slapped back in within 120 seconds of a crash recovery. It depends on how wear leveling is being implemented but it's possible that if you're aggressively writing and re-writing within that 50GB then those 50GB will wear at an increased rate (basically because wear leveling has a smaller area to level over) resulting in decreased lifespan of those 50GB. >>102546791
Fuck, you are right.
I've been using this win10 since 2017 and only do version updates.
I inject lots of simple script into the explorer and make some modification for my personal needs, will upgrading to win11 broke my setting or my old third party program compability?
Is win11 just a number marketing upgrade or an actual system overhaul like win7 to win10?
>>
>>102546886
11 basically started as a large scale 10 update until it became its own new OS after the scale grew out of control.
>>
>>102546909
So is that mean I should update into earliest version of win11 first if I want my old setting not broke?
>>
>>102546936
No, upgrading to the latest 11 version from 10 will be incredibly smooth. Just use a September updated ISO from massgrave and in-place upgrade to 11 using its setup wizard. Just make sure to check the box that says to keep all your files and programs.
>>
>>102546950
Cool, glad it wasn't a complete overhaul like win7 to 10.
I already forgot everything I did to my windows, everything was made when I got bored and start learning scripting during the Cough back then.

that's a very rookie advice anon, in this day and age nothing can make Windows run fast in an HDD, specially Home/Pro with all the shit they pack there

you can use debloat tools to optimize it or just recommend migrating to SSD

Is this normal?

What's Icaros? No it wasn't a third party solution. It was a windows trick on folder options or something. It was kino.
Windows remembered all my folder different settings, didn't have to reorder every time.
And the memes opened fast.

Has anyone tried running Server 2022 or 2025 as a Desktop OS?
>>
>>102553207
I mean it's fine, it's not bad if you don't do any specific kind of work, you're not in the tech bubble or you're not a privacy-schizo

But I do warn you that the MS ecosystem is far more unstable and unpredictable than Apple, you never know if tomorrow shit will work so it's always good to not get too comfy with their stuff
>>
can you do a in place upgrade from 10 to 11 on unsupported hardware?

Yes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUXLAhYFTtc

thoughts on this? its tiny11 based on IoT LTSC 24H2. in theory this should be THE best windows iso you can get right?

those look fine for a hdd
get an ssd. there's a number of tricks you can use to speed up a hdd as a system drive, such as;
- make a small partition near the start to put windows and common programs in, hdd's are fastest near the start (as in twice as fast at the start vs. the end)
- keep it defragmented
- move caches and temporary file folders to a ramdisc
- turn off anything disc-heavy that you don't need, like anti-virus scanners, search indexers, etc
- if you have too little ram and hit the page file often, get more ram. in fact get more ram than you need anyway since any unused ram is used as disc cache

but nothing you do will make a hdd run nearly as well as an ssd, and they're so cheap now that there's no reason not to switch to one. windows since 10 isn't optimised to run from a hdd, last time i tried 10 on a laptop hdd was in 2018 and it was fucking awful no matter what i did

also, if he can't live with less than 1T of space and also can't afford a 1T ssd for it (or otherwise doesn't want to spend much on it), then consider moving the hdd to an external case and just keep the most important things on a smaller ssd. some laptops can support two drives as well, depends on the model
