$4k is around the lower limit for a Threadripper/Xeon workstation. If your company permits you to DIY it then I'd suggest looking there. Whereas if they require you to buy a prebuilt $4k likely won't cut it. From a quick search $5000 seems to be the floor price for OEM HEDT machines.

4070 Super
The PS5 will still be a development target for most games at that time, so a 4070 Super will still be usable with reduced settings and low input resolution DLSS
>>
Still cant decide if I should get a 27'' 1440p monitor or 24'' 1080p 144hz. (Both are upgrades bc ive been using a 1080p 60hz for ages).
I only want to spend like 150 max. Anyone got a recommendation for a good one that youve been using for a couple of years that works without problems and is in this price range?
>>
>>102536668
Always go 1440p if you're buying a new monitor. 1080p DLAA and 1440p DLSS Quality cost the same in terms of performance, and 1440p DLSS Quality looks better. Probably not worth buying used, as you can get a really good 1440p like the Dell G2724D new with warranty for $180.

I would strongly consider the Q27G3XMN for another $100, as it'll give you entry HDR.
>>
Any reputable company that make a sturdy dual monitor arm? Im thinking humanscale which costs a pretty penny.
>>
>>102536718
Thanks. I forgot to mention I will have to buy it on amazon bc I will be using some old gift cards and thats why my budget is also 150. The first dell one you mentioned starts at over 250 there. Ive been looking and it seems like you cant find any good 27'' 1440p ones in this price range so I probably will have to just get a decent 1080p one with a high refresh rate :/
>>
>>102536850
Even if you have to get a 1080p monitor, you can still get better image quality using DLDSR, in conjunction with DLSS if need be. You can set 1440p or 4K as the render target and DLDSR and DSR will downsample to your 1080p monitor.
>>
>>102536935
I'll be honest idk anything about DLDSR/DLSS. I wrote that down for now and will probably watch a youtube tutorial later on lol

From a performance standpoint, yes. The IGP has enough grunt to drive 8k60. The actual bottleneck will be artificial - the mobo ports and software locks.

The dude you're replying to is a marketer. He will claim X GB is enough for the GPU core regardless of the card.

>>102537783
When you say eventually how eventual do you mean? It's probably fine for 3-4, even 5 years, if you're lucky maybe more.
The thing is Nvidia, by market dominance, have de facto control over games VRAM usage. Their cards have enough VRAM because nobody makes games that only sell to a narrow range of people. That era of PC gaming is long past, it's unlikely there's going to be a new Crysis analog.

>>
>>102538206
The CPU will hold back any decent video card you upgrade.
Buy a 5600 or 5700X3D, they should be compatible with your B450 motherboard with a BIOS update.
Then you can get a more recent budget/mid-range video card.
>>
>>102538041
Not really. The 58 clocks a lot higher so will fare better in cache-light games like esports but they might as well be identical for general gaming.
>>
Some dude I know wants to build a computer that "plays everything on 4k"
I don't give/know a shit about videogames, what components would suffice for that? I'm assuming 7800x3d + 4080S/4090?
>>
>>102538206
How much money have you got available to spend? I'm assuming you're going for a limited budget, so I'd get either an A750 or an RX 6600 for the GPU, and replace the CPU with a 5700X3D. Is your RAM a single 8gb stick? Get another identical one or buy 2x8 3200 CL16.
>>
>>102538295
Yes, possibly cheaping out on the CPU if necessary as 4k will almost always weigh more on the GPU.
>>
>>102538122
That's a lot of money for 12 cores. Even with ECC support.

I've owned two Radeon cards, they're both relics. One of them is my favorite GPU.
I do think RDNA4 and especially 5 will have some competitive offerings.
If AMD doesn't release a good $400~600 video card within the next two years, you'll know they stopped caring.

The AMD GPUs designed alongside major console APUs tend to be the better ones.

I don't blame the sub $400, or even $500, RDNA2 card owners.
There were availability and pricing issues with equivalent RTX cards.

If you got a 6600/XT or 6700/XT below MSRP, you did well.
RTX 3070 owners are going to replace their cards at about the same time as these guys.

I wouldn't buy a top-class GPU this late in the product cycle, especially with the RT/AI hardware improvement expected in RDNA4 chips.

AMD's SVP Jack Huynh practically admitted PC game developers prioritize GeForce optimization because that's where the market is.
I respect all the Linux users here, but there are not enough Linux gamers to change this reality.

The PC ports where Radeon cards perform better are the crappy ones (mostly JP).
>>

>RTX 2060 Super
Huh, I didn't know that card existed at all, practically equivalent to a 5700XT perf wise with 8gb VRAM and all.
Nvidia should have just released that as the base 2060.
>>
>>102543009
It's been explained to me several times before but I still can't really believe it, why aren't games biased to AMD's hardware considering their architecture is the foundation of all non-Nintendo consoles of which every major PC title is a dumbed-down port thereof. How can Nvidia have an advantage at all when the larger gaming ecosystem is stacked against them?
>>
>>102543155
>Nvidia should have just released that as the base 2060.
That's too consumer-friendly.
If there's no serious competition, NVIDIA tests how much they can get away with the initial launches of each product tier.
The halo tier is a bit of an exception, but the -90 series cards are a relatively new branding and they'll probably raise the price for the RTX 5090.

The RTX 20-series Super cards were segmented to overtake RDNA1 cards.
>AMD is finally giving the mid-segment some competition with its 7 nm PCIe Gen 4 Radeon RX 5700 "Navi" series with the company claiming competitive performance leads over the high-volume GeForce RTX 2060 and RTX 2070.
>NVIDIA decided to upscale the two SKUs at their price points with new models.

>1080p: RTX 3060 12 GB
Why would you recommend a card that struggles to reach 1080p 60fps on the latest games?
>>
>>102543222
I think the Radeon SVP is talking about having difficulty getting Radeon features like the latest FSR or AntiLag implemented into PC ports.
Because the Radeon performance bias is visible on most ported games.
Devs have limited time & resources, and most of them will prioritize making their cross-platform titles run on the Series S or PS5 @ 30/60 FPS.

The quality of the PC ports also depends on the resources and engineering culture of the game-developing company.
There are studios like id Software that take pride in programming their games to run well on every system, including the Switch.
Customer pushback can get crap ports like Starfield to receive Intel & NVIDIA hardware performance patches too.

Elden Ring is an anomaly in the pic, my guess is there's some legacy PS3 rendering code in FromSoftware's engine causing performance bottlenecks.

Your current case came with 0 preinstalled fans?
There are variations in the range of P12 humming due to manufacturing tolerances.
P12's been through multiple revisions, the most annoying sounds should've been dampened by now.

I'd probably settle with a 5-pack P12, the revised P12 Max with fluid dynamic bearing, or the Scythe Wonder Tornado 3-pack.

The only Noctua case fan I'd buy is the most expensive one (NF-A12x25), the other ones have been superseded by competing fans like Silent Wing 4 (120 & 140mm).

This is very unfortunate. Especially if RTG can get get decent ML upsampling going with FSR4, users need to push hard for FSR4 and AntiLag2 integration with all games. If ultrawide users can be supported, Radeon users can be supported.

You know what? I completely agree with you. My set goal is the 7900XTX if the prices are good, otherwise I might just settle with a 7800XT. The reasoning to of going with a 7900XTX if I can get a good deal is that I'm likely not getting a new GPU any time soon - and I'd like a solution that will last a little longer..

But if the prices by the end of the year still garbage as they are I'm likely settling with the 7800XT or other better option for price/performance.

Essentially I need to install a motherboard standoff in a place where there is no corresponding threaded hole in the motherboard tray. Because AMD's dev support has long been subpar on PC. Nvidia has invested a lot in helping developers implement Nvidia-specific optimizations and features in their games for mostly free while AMD left them in the dark, treating the consumer GPU market as a side gig. I'm planning to build a new PC. Should I go with Windows 11 or should I stick to Windows 10?

Windows 11 doesn't have any advantages over windows 10

I'm the stinkpad user. Stinkpad to 7900x. I'm going to run vms with 28 gigs of RAM. Shits going to be so cash.

More than enough for almost all games. There will be outliers, usually some sort of grand strategy games where they are heavily CPU bound.

Maybe you are right. I come from an Asus VC23 or something. Maybe 27 is enough for desk use. Even for immersive games.

Pretty good. I use something similar and I can run it fine in 1440p mid-high settings. Around 120FPS.

best I could personally get is like 0.8 something dpc latency average on a 5800x3d but my windows install is cursed (install is from 2017 and I swapped cpu twice already)

What GPU would you recommend?
>>
>>102536104
I've been out of the PC building market for about 15 years now, but I'm finally being forced to upgrade.
Where do I even start when it comes to comparing value and stability for parts? I'm looking to buy on a budget (ideally 1k or less for the whole shebang) but I want to avoid attractively-priced shitcan parts that will be worthless in a year. The market has changed so much since I last had to care about any of this that it's completely bewildering.
>>
>>102547910
a non consoomer GPU.
Get yourself a Quadro 6000 or something.
>>
>>102547707
If you're in the US, spend just a bit more (+$10~20) for a better card model that will run cooler & quieter.
ASUS Dual is the better dual-fan card, but I'd spend the extra $20 for the Gaming X Slim.

Brehs, review my pick. I'm thinking about getting a Asrock Pro RS instead of HDV. For RAM, GSkill flare x5, instead of whatever this is. But Adata is CL30 and Gskill is CL40. IDK which ones to choose. Other than memory, ssd and motherboard, I've boughted everthing.

Then you're probably looking at an AM4 build, something like below.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2ftKCd

You can buy a better CPU for under $200 on Alibaba (5700X3D, about $180).
There are savings you can make on the board & SSD.
The 4060 is a placeholder, but there isn't that great of a card option for the $300~400 price range.

I'd also consider getting a budget CPU cooler if you're sensitive to noise.

This one if you're getting 5700X3D.

Bro fuck outta here with the 32 display, its a TV size, 27 is the limit. Even my 23.5 1080p is huege, I sometimes think of getting second monitor for goon shit but thats like more than half your desk is just monitors
>>

Here's a $1030 build (pre-taxes) with a good RTX 4070 model, the card's discounted for a limited time.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tPdr28
https://us-store.msi.com/Graphics-Cards/NVIDIA-GPU/RTX-4070/GeForce-RTX-4070-GAMING-SLIM-12G

You have to use a cheaper board with no WiFi and a 1TB storage drive, but the sacrifice is probably worth it if you're planning to play newer games.
PSU is a bit overkill, but the cheaper ones I'd consider are still over $70.

This was linked by someone a while back & it seems pretty reliable from what I've seen.
Obviously this is just for a first impression, still check around afterwards for prices on specific models & such

Try it out before mounting, 1080p on 40" will look like crap for text. The pixels will be the size of small lego blocks.
