I don't recommend it personally. It's Javascript, and the issue with Javascript is that it's not a terribly rigid language that has a ton of quirks. Good to use for short scripts to say, update the webpage automatically over time, bad for a backend.

>>102542300
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Just have PHP set up in your Common Gateway Interface to your webserver, set up PHP.ini according to your needs, and you're good to go.
The web server will call the PHP executable, which does a live compilation and then execution of your script file, sort of like how Lua works. Publishing is just copying all of the PHP files over.
Sometimes you need a second server for SQL, but it's not always necessary, especially if your application is like... a web calculator. SQL publishing is a bit different, but still just amounts to running a script that alters the tables as you need them with no real need to pre-compile anything.

I have a Discman I've been running off rechargeable AAs for some time, and recently I discovered that the unit itself can charge the OEM battery pack, but I don't have one. Upon inspecting, I saw that there's a switch inside the battery compartment, which I think engages with the piece of plastic in the OEM battery pack to let the unit know it's safe to enable charging, my questions are
>Is the OEM battery pack sturdy enough for buying a used one and rebuilding it with new rechargeable batteries to be feasible?
>Has someone done a 3D model of the little plastic holder to build a new battery pack without destroying an old OEM one?
>Is there an easy and reversible way to just hold down the detector switch?
I know my way around electronics enough to just remove the switch and bridge it, but would rather keep it as stock as possible
>>
>>102542613
Okay, authenticating users requires you to have some sort of identification attached to the browser. PHP has two main ways to do this: A cookie, and a session cookie. They're both cookies, but the session lets PHP keep track of a bunch of non-volatile variables at the expense of storage space and RAM while processing requests(frankly probably not a huge concern,) while the other gives you a simple string to store data with.
Regardless of which route you go, it has to somehow store some sort of identifier that you can phone to a database server(like MySQL or Postgre) to receive additional information about the user, such as things you can use to further identify the user.

I am a freak about optimizing RAM use, so the way I do this is that I create a cookie that has a simple hashed user identification number(usually salted with the time of the creation.) The presence of the cookie is typically enough to prove that it's the user, but for an extra layer, I also store the IP alongside the hash on my database. It pisses phone and VPN users off, but it's a hell of a lot more secure since it's really difficult to spoof the IP you're connecting to the server with, and better "safe than sorry" is a good thing to have. I also happen to store an expiry date for the tokens as well, as yet another layer of security.
Once I've verified the token as still good to use, I can call the database to retrieve the user information that I might commonly need(IE: user permissions, their user ID, the display name) that I can then pack into an array to use throughout the rest of the webpage.
>>
>>102542730
Yeah the replacements have to be NiCd batteries. The charger will damage NiMH. Most likely the battery pack has a point where it snaps apart if you peel back the sticker, or you can just cut down a random piece of plastic or wood with a Dremel and epoxy it to new batteries to have a switch flipper. Battery holders aren't super science.

>sending large files
Qbittorrent
you probably want to put the files on some solid state medium (flash drive/SSD), but manually move them via the right click->set location option(in qbittorrent)
If you are fine with the file "info" being pissed into an ocean of piss as a securty measure you can use https://opentrackr.org/ by putting
udp://tracker.opentrackr.org:1337/announce
into your trackers for the torrent, then sending them a magnet link of that torrent
[Creating a torrent is under the tools dropdown iirc]
If you are geographically "close" you can use DHT to find each other give them the info hash or .torrent file, someone has to be seeding it to download

If pissing in a sea of piss isn't enough, you can disable local peer discovery, DHT and not use a tracker but IP address instead by right clicking within the peer tab and adding a peer (ALL PEERS MUST DO THIS)
If the seeders force encrypted traffic all traffic is probabaly encrypted
If you are a schizo you cpuld probably do tor+vpn+torrent

Get a cPanel instance or set up a LEMP stack and build from there, auth is just
if $user_input_pass === $secret_pass
but with hashes and a timing algorithm, if it matches you set the session cookie.
>>
>>102542764
all of that is built-in into sessions now, once you set the cookie you can give it an expire time, lock it to a single IP, make HTTPS only, etc..., you can even replace it with a hidden input field on all forms to bypass GDPR bullshit but is less secure because it is visible on the DOM.

Can a BSoD cause significant file corruption or is it more likely that file corruption caused the BSoD?

In short
>built new PC last month
>runs well, mostly used for local text AI (70+ GB split between VRAM and RAM)
>had first BSoD yesterday, despite no windows/driver updates
>had ~10 BSoD's in a row every time I tried to use it after, each with a different error code (related to GPU, to drivers, to memory, etc.)
>ran window's build-in memory tester, failed the test with a "hardware error"
>went to bed
>ran memory tester again today, dreading the return on RAM sticks
>passed the test but still BSoD'd three times after
>ran Dism, then SFC /scannow
>fixed multiple corrupted files
>no BSoD since (2 hours of running AI)

Failing the memory test that one time still has me concerned. I feel like I could have a RAM issue, which corrupted files and caused the BSoD spam. Fixing the corrupt files could just be a bandage fix and it'll come back.

How do I know if it is my one month old RAM having a problem or if it was just the first crash causing corruption problems?
>>
>>102543742
Well, nevermind. Just got another BSoD with yet another new error code, this time
>Stop code: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
from
>win32kfull.sys
Which looks like yet another memory error

>usually related to defective RAM, be it main memory, L2 RAM cache, or video RAM. Another possible cause is the installation of a faulty system service or faulty driver code. Antivirus software can also trigger this error, as can a corrupted NTFS volume.

Fuck.
>>
>>102543921
Page faults means it can also be virtual memory AKA your harddrive, I would get another drive, even an USB flashdrive and set up virtual memory in it instead, no matter how much ram you have, windows will offload pages to virtual memory if possible.
>>
>>102543959
I just did that, but would it explain the wild, random assortment of previous stop codes from the previous BSoDs or the corrupted system files that were repaired earlier?

Rebooting now to finish new page file on another drive.
>>
>>102543742
BSoD means the OS dropped what it's doing and stopped. If what it was doing was modifying files, those files are likely now corrupt (half-written). Will that data corruption be significant? Probably not, but it depends on how shitty your OS is. But considering that you're in a continuous maximum stress environment with what I can probably assume is less-than-optimal cooling and no active component monitoring, it's probably a component problem not an OS. Hard drive, RAM, VRAM, CPU. Could be anything really.

Lost my Onee Chan config and didn't have a recent backup...
How do you enable the search bar in the catalog again?
The "Use 4chan X Catalog" in 4chan X isn't doing anything so guessing there's something blocking it?
>>
>>102544030
I've always monitored my CPU and GPUs temps. I have also undervolted them (I had assumed stably because I've never had a crash before yesterday whether in games, AI, or simple zipping. I tested removing the undervolting last night but that didn't help). My CPU has never gotten hotter than 60C, and my GPUs usually in the 60C to 70C range. I haven't checked my RAM temps before, but I didn't overclock it since the base speed was near the limit of what my CPU or mobo says it supports, whichever was lower.

With your reminder, I also looked up the error report I got from the Windows Memory Diagnostic ("Hardware problems were detected. To identify and repair these problems, you will need to contact the computer manufacturer."), and it agrees that in addition to the possibility of faulty RAM sticks, it could have resulted from corrupt drivers, system file corruption, or failing hardware components.

How do I start narrowing down the specific cause for this?

Without server grade stuff tech integrated into the motherboard, you just have to start swapping out components starting with the most likely culprit until it's isolated. Most like culprit order:
anything that's overheating or has been subject to extreme heat in its life > OS's hard drive > RAM > recent model intel CPU with bad drivers > GPU > shitty motherboard > other CPU > motherboard > fluctuations in power from PSU

You can also try fresh re-installing the OS, but no guarantee it will work.

That's still nothing, I think. I opened HWMonitor and ran the AI for 20 min. I got my processor temps mixed up. CPU (i9 14900K) is maxing at 76C, and GPU1/2 (2 x 4060ti's) are maxing at 63C and 49C respectively.

Other temps are
>51C RAM
>32C C: SSD
>38C D: HDD
and the mobo has pic related. The highest temp is 88C in pic related, whatever VR is.

But you think the OS drive is a more likely culprit than the RAM? It would certainly be convenient, because my next upgrade was going to be the 2 years old SSD to an M2.

>But you think the OS drive is a more likely culprit than the RAM? It would certainly be convenient, because my next upgrade was going to be the 2 years old SSD to an M2.
Yes, drive failures are a fact of life at any scale and would always be my first guess. If the failure is on the OS those failures can get into the programs being loaded or into paging file where RAM is being swapped in and out and that can impact almost anything
>>
>>102544674
Cool. The SSD is the only old component I have in this build. Even the current HDD was bought a month before I built the new PC. So a good test for now on if it's the SSD would be to reinstall windows onto my previous (and still working, presumably) HDD and see if a problem persists? Then, if it still happens, would you suggest throwing in my old RAM sticks or a targeted test like MemTest86 for the RAM?

I'm having issues downloading this one 19gig file from a site via any browser or download software. It's just simply too big to maintain the connection.

Other files can be downloaded from the site, several gigs just fine.

What do?

i need to buy a docking station for my laptops - i have a huawei matebook which as best as i can tell does NOT have thunderbolt, but does have USB C
i need to buy a dock cos next week i start work and will be given a laptop - probably a dell and im thinking it WILL possibly have thunderbolt.

is there a docking station that will work with both? or are they too incompatible even though the plug is the same?

pic unrelated other than this is how my cable mgmt currently looks

Hello!
I'm trying to install Anki, it's basically a flashcard app to help you memorize things.
The system is updated to the latest version of Fedora. I just moved from Windows and have had success so far in moving to Linux, but this one in particular is stumping me.
I got to point 3 in the paragraph titled "Installing"
>Open a terminal and run the following commands, replacing the filename as appropriate.
Step 1
>tar xaf Downloads/anki-2XXX-linux-qt6.tar.zst
Step 2
>cd anki-2XXX-linux-qt6
Step 3
>sudo ./install.sh
I chose the appropriate filename from the download. When I type in the terminal and enter the sudo password after after step 1, I think something happens because I don't receive an error.
However, if I try the next step (2) I get an error.
Pic rel.
I've tried this about 12 times
Copy>Pasting the entire text and going line by line, thinking I might have made some mistake.
Can anybody help?
Here's the How To Install guide for reference
>https://docs.ankiweb.net/platform/linux/installing.html
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
Any help would be appreciated

I'm interested in using a password manager like keypassxc but I would need access on multiple devices. I've read that people simply upload their DB file to a cloud storage service of their choice and sync it that way but isn't that an inherently flawed method when talking about data as sensitive as all your passwords? I'm very iffy about giving some cloud provider all my passwords, but what can I do to sync my passwords across devices?

Yup, constantly referencing reddit posts

Depending on how it caches those variables, it either loads the entire file into memory(BAD AND IS ALWAYS THE CASE ON WINDOWS BECAUSE THAT OS FORCIBLY CACHES FILES INTO MEMORY!) or it loads just a portion of the file into memory(this is good design.) Either way, it has to load a bunch of shit while processing the request that I don't even know if it's actually necessary and I cannot stress I just have an unnatural fixation towards writing code that is RAM-efficient to stupid degrees when I think it's possible. This is regardless of the fact if my solution actually results in less RAM consumption or not. This is why I stressed the session's potential downsides as "probably not a huge concern."

I also just like the cookies better from a code aesthetics level. I genuinely don't know why. Sessions would admittedly probably be better in almost every case(barring ones where there are MULTIPLE script engines like Perl AND PHP running at the same time for some ungodly reason,) but cookies just feel... right.
I'm a sucker for the old methods so maybe that and my vaguely NIH attitude is why I don't want cookies.

What are some obvious signs of a bot post?
>>
>>102546140
If you're talking 4chan there are three kind of bot posting going on I'm aware of:
1. Mass posting galleries and storytimes. Indistinguishable from manually doing it but why would you care?
2. Repeatedly posting the same thread/reply in multiple boards/threads. Again, indistinguishable from a nolifer manually doing it but either way fuck them.
3. Replies sourced from ChatGPT or other LLMs: obvious from its wording which is simultaneously roundabout and overly-formal.

most things you think are bots are probably just losers

Must see on 4chan AI botposting:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=efPrtcLdcdM&pp

Generall its almost impossible to tell whether a bot or human is posting.
Lots of media claims of bot posting in social media is based upon made up data, with silly criteria of what is bot and what is not. Another research found that many social madia accounts suspected of bot behaviour were infact real people with too much time shilling their agenda.
Often its also trollfarms instead of actual bots.

why does rainmeter go over the start menu despite me choosing "on desktop" or "bottom" as the layer, makes no difference which.

>>
>>102546532
*task bar and start menu
>>
>>102546532
Maybe try locking/unlocking taskbar
>>
>>102546576
nope. it just can't decide whats the focus point when I click the desktop it goes between the taskbar and mask layer (lively wallpaper running video wall in the background of this is fine though) and puts the mask over the task bar and covers tabs, despite being clickthrough, on hover: do nothing, etcetera.
I think its rainmeter itself.

struggling to get it to "stick" like it was so I can show it, its just one frame now most of the time. the mask goes over everything then fixes itself.
but the reason Im even asking is sometimes it doesn't, and gets in the way of everything. its supposed to JUST be a mask later over the video layer (from lively) and its not going to go well if I make a whole ass weather/eclipse tracker using this kind of thing and it just goes over everything.

First, nominal values. Second there's a thing called power delivery and devices have to negotiate it. It's not like charging a car battery.

ohms law. watts means nothing for batteries, whats the amperage, whats the voltage, how much resistance is on the wire

Could be the phone charger doesn't support the PD mode your phone wants, as in the ideal voltage / current option, there's some bizarre compatibility issue, or the connector is scuffed.
>>
>>102545823
Nigga you dumb, php sessions are the server side of cookies, you store a token on the client's browser and that corresponds to a session file with data on the server, since php processes are discarded after use all memory is freed, but the database on the other hand is a continuously running process so storing your session data in it wastes more ram.
I've actually used php on embedded devices with low ram, had to use SQLite and modify an excel library to output raw XML in batches before zipping it so as to never use more than 32mb of ram.

Fiber Internet: before I start my own thread I figured I'd ask here. I've been looking into it and it seems promising. Besides cost, are there any downsides you've run into? Potential issues?
>>
>>102548376
It just works, only downside is a bit fragile and construction equipment always finds its way into buried fiber lines but considering how rampart copper fiends are right now it evens it out.

Does anyone know how vid related was done with HTML5? The images move as the user scrolls, but whenever I look up anything to do with manipulating images with HTML5 it just shows me tutorials on <img> tags and/or CSS animations.
Site here (it takes awhile to load) https://web.archive.org/web/20160731082717/http://www.soul-reaper.com/

Also, since the site is from a decade ago, is it still feasible to implement something like this nowadays (with phones in mind)?

hey guys, I have a i7 12700k and a msi PRO Z690-A mobo, this mobo has like three m.2 slots, one close to the cpu and 2 more bellow the gpu

thing is though can I fill all 3 without losing bandwidth/speed on the other ones? I believe the closest one to the cpu uses the cpu lanes, I have my main drive there, bellow it I have one 512 gb, but now I want more storage, the ones bellow use the PCI lanes or some shit, will it slow down the other ssds and/or my gpu if I get a 3rd one?

Torrent clients are technology. Also anime website and anime board:

I'm trying to build software that can translate text into different languages on pictures and fill in the translation in place of the original text (basically an open source version of Google Lens). When I eventually get a working prototype running, I want to test it on untranslated manga. Where can I find torrents of untranslated manga? Already looked on nyaa.si, pirate bay, and even limetorrents but they either keep stalling or have non-existent peers because they were created in 2015.

Because both drives have their own intermittent periods of IO wait doing random access, and the process stops if either of them is in it. If you roll it into one large file, you effectively eliminate IO wait on one side.
