Interesting. I've always assumed that at least 50% of people have their computers clogged with dozens of YIFY rips.

Scary how reliant people seem to be on netflix...

Most people still own something that'll play DVDs or Blu-rays. Most games consoles from the past 20+ years can play at least DVDs.

Me and the boys get together once a week for pizza and movies/games. It's the highlight of my week at least. I usually just program when I get back home from work, maybe I'm just getting old but sitting there programming like an autist just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Depends on type of NAND and how much you use them. QLC is the cheapest and of course the most dogshit that might actually have worse reliability than HDDs.

Optical media isn't the superman you think it is either. Given certain conditions it undergoes bitrot.

Install an OS off them a few times or copy some files around, nothing toys consider heavy useage, all of them are false advertised trash no matter the brand, just saw up for an external SSD if you actually want speed or HDD/optical for reliability.

I dont have a lot of time for TV or movies, I've watched all the classics and do plan to watch many of them. The idea is more
1- if I google a movie I typically already have it. Or if I'm suddenly in the mood to watch groundhog day or the Animatrix, its there. I mostly watch old TV like Stargate and mythbusters.

2- I share my server with a few friends and family members who all have different tastes. Once every month or two I spend a day just downloading whatever top movie torrents dropped and dump them on there.

Yes, Steam/valve were the first to force online DRM, you need to be online to go into offline mode even since the 2010s and it will randomly force you to go online and if you can't you cant play. Who gives a shit? Zoomers don't constitute most people, or most households. I'd be very confident in stating that at least 51% of US households have one or more of the following:

A standalone DVD/Blu-ray player
A laptop with an optical drive
A desktop PC with an optical drive
Any Sony or Microsoft games console from the original PS2 onwards
Some other device like a TV with a built-in DVD player or a hacked Wii

They may not actually use said thing any more, or have EVER used it for that functionality when it comes to something like a PS5, but that doesn't mean they couldn't in a pinch.

But then just socialize with the other people who got fucked by the hurricane? Maybe help eachother out cleaning the streets or whatever?

Plex does just work, and it always finds metadata even for obscure movies or anime and shitty named torrents. that's the thing about randomness, it being unlikely has nothing to do with it. Studies show sharks kill fewer people than cars. You gonna go swim with a great white? What do you mean? It's unlikely. Doesn't matter why. And no, it's not an irrelevant comparison: the quantity compared is whether or not something is likely or not altering whether or not it will happen to YOU regardless of circumstance.

Try slowing the fuck down for once. Make the trip to your local library or Walmart, buy or borrow a cheap movie on DVD, walk your lazy ass to the disc player, and watch it. When you’re done, if you own it you can ask one of your friends if they want to borrow it. Maybe it will spark some fun conversations. You also know you’ll get to see them again when they return the disc. Physical media is a very pro-social activity. We can rebuild our society this way. I’m sick of everyone being online and forgetting their irl friends so they can rot in their room all day.
