Probably because it's not as straightfoward to use to normgroids as social media is even though you don't need an account to subscribe to RSS feeds. They have to figure out what RSS client to use and they would get stuck on that and it's also not apparent on what RSS actually does even if they see an RSS symbol

at this point, for RSS to be relevant it needs to be re-imagined with social media in mind. It was made with the idea that you would subscribe to lower frequency mediums (news sites, blogs, etc) not the rapidfire hivemind type of content on social media.

The only problem is every platform wants a walled garden because it protects ad revenue so you'll never get the kind of open cooperation that defined the internet experience prior to 2015

Because 90% of users are on 5 different sites. RSS came from the time when “surfing the web” was a thing.

“lol follow my blog”, doesn’t look good in 2024.

I’ve had the idea for a few years to make something visually like HN. Where every user has their own feed, but then there’s a main feed with comments on each post. Obviously that just sounds like Reddit and 07 Twitter though so it’s not exactly a million dollar idea

I do... But the simple answer is that most people are not only stupid, but they crave frequent human engagement, and portals for surrogate activity like social media platforms fulfill that desire. Mircoblogs don't replace RSS they replace low cost of entry blogmakers such as wordpress, tumblr, deviantart and to a lesser extent proper independently hosted blogs. They replace Gooogle's search engine as much as they replace RSS feeds.

It seems like so many of you do not realize that RSS was killed off before the rise of modern social media. RSS provided an option quickly and easily aggregate and view content from nearly the entire internet without massive corporations and their social media platforms being able to spam non-sense you do not want along with ads and so on

RSS did not die it was killed so the future of the internet at that time could be shaped and controlled by massive corporations and all of their desires to control what the average person sees on the internet along with the ability to spam ads

Most of you seem to be completely oblivious. I know this all happened in the the early to mid 2000s ending mostly around 2010 so many of you might have been too young to know that the internet could have been much different and in my opinion much better without the massive corporations in complete and total control
