Why don't people just use RSS instead of X, Bluesky, Mastodon, etc.?
>>
>>103243288
no likes and retweets with rss
>>
>>103243295
>retweets
copy+paste exists
>>
>>103243288
Probably because it's not as straightfoward to use to normgroids as social media is even though you don't need an account to subscribe to RSS feeds. They have to figure out what RSS client to use and they would get stuck on that and it's also not apparent on what RSS actually does even if they see an RSS symbol
>>
>>103243288
Google killed RSS
>>
>>103243288
Why do you assume that people don't use both like me?
>>
>>103243401
How?
>>
>>103243362
What if the notable people that moved from X to Bluesky started RSS feeds instead?
>>
>>103243288
at this point, for RSS to be relevant it needs to be re-imagined with social media in mind. It was made with the idea that you would subscribe to lower frequency mediums (news sites, blogs, etc) not the rapidfire hivemind type of content on social media.

The only problem is every platform wants a walled garden because it protects ad revenue so you'll never get the kind of open cooperation that defined the internet experience prior to 2015
>>
>>103243288
because 99% of 'people' are retarded
>>
>>103243288
Deprecated technology.
>>
>>103243288
Because 90% of users are on 5 different sites. RSS came from the time when “surfing the web” was a thing.

“lol follow my blog”, doesn’t look good in 2024.

I’ve had the idea for a few years to make something visually like HN. Where every user has their own feed, but then there’s a main feed with comments on each post. Obviously that just sounds like Reddit and 07 Twitter though so it’s not exactly a million dollar idea

>Why don't people just use autistic inconvenient thing instead of easy convenient thing?
It's a mystery

>rss is inconvenient
so you think it's convenient to log into 20 different accounts on 20 different websites to check for new content?
no, i just put it in my feed reader and it tells me when new content is uploaded.
everything is in one place - convenient.

... you retarded gorilla nigger
>>
>>103243288
I do... But the simple answer is that most people are not only stupid, but they crave frequent human engagement, and portals for surrogate activity like social media platforms fulfill that desire. Bear in mind, even though it is partially anonymous, that 4chan is social media too, so people like you and me still have the same tendencies, but to a lesser degree.

>Ayo susy just right click inspect the <head> of your HTML page and look for the URL ending with rss atom or something and then add it to your foss program aah yes you have to do it for every single person you know
You will never have sex

>“lol follow my blog”, doesn’t look good in 2024.
You're not wrong, but at the same time all the twitter power retards are starting Substacks, which is just a blog that gets emailed to you. So, practically the same shit as RSS, just more retarded.

is there a good way to export rss articles to an ebook to read later it in the garden/mountain without being connected to the internet?
like bringing a newspaper or a magacine with you, but in the ebook
i cannot be the only one trying to do this
>>
>>103243288
{mastodon-profile}.rss werks
>>
>>103243288
>RSS
Alien technology.
>>
>>103243288
i do but its getting dropped by more and more places some can be worked around, others cant so its because it requires concerted effort that the average normie couldn't be fucked with.
>>
>>103243288
Mircoblogs don't replace RSS they replace low cost of entry blogmakers such as wordpress, tumblr, deviantart and to a lesser extent proper independently hosted blogs. They replace Gooogle's search engine as much as they replace RSS feeds.

It seems like so many of you do not realize that RSS was killed off before the rise of modern social media. RSS provided an option quickly and easily aggregate and view content from nearly the entire internet without massive corporations and their social media platforms being able to spam non-sense you do not want along with ads and so on

RSS did not die it was killed so the future of the internet at that time could be shaped and controlled by massive corporations and all of their desires to control what the average person sees on the internet along with the ability to spam ads

Most of you seem to be completely oblivious. I know this all happened in the the early to mid 2000s ending mostly around 2010 so many of you might have been too young to know that the internet could have been much different and in my opinion much better without the massive corporations in complete and total control

"In 2022, Techdirt called the discontinuation of Google Reader "one of the defining moments in the shift from a more distributed, independent web to one that is controlled by a few large companies.""
>>
>>103245741
i think is even more basic than that, rss was not add friendly, as you say rss assassination is before the social media
>>
>>103243288
Bluesky and Mastodon have RSS feeds, X doesn’t
