Ubuntu lost the crown, desktop is merely an afterthought now.

OpenSUSE was to disorganized to become the #1 even though they had lots of potential.

Fedora got more popular, deservedly so, especially with polished "just werks" distros like Kinoite.

Arch is the Reddit distro so people keep trying it out and some stick. SteamOS and KDE Linux are also built on Arch - it's a good base.

Because everything in Linux ecosystem is just broken and constantly needs fixing. There's just no such thing as stable release in Linux world, all the "stable" distros are like "Hey, we know we shipped you a broken shit, but you may be sure that this shit will be same broken for the next 6 month/2 years".
I had fewer issues on arch than I had on Kubuntu and aur is a fucking godsend.

Arch is probably one of the most popular distros at this point, if you look at the leddit page for distros it's bigger than just about all other linux distros pages.

I started off using Ubuntu but I've been using Fedora for a long time now. The archinstall script is simple enough I'm tempted to try out Arch. My only concern is I don't know if the meme about it often crashing after updating is true. I never have problems on Fedora KDE.

I often read comments about previous Arch users moving over to Fedora because of stability

> Arch is probably one of the most popular distros at this point
Arch is only popular in places where people like to talk about Linux a lot, like Reddit, 4chinz, and also with gamers. Ubuntu is far more popular than Arch. It's just that you don't hear much from those people because they're not the kind of people who get into distro wars on reddit. They just use their computers without really caring about telling you that they use Ubuntu. Outside of reddit and 4chinz, Arch isn't really that popular.

> My only concern is I don't know if the meme about it often crashing after updating is true.
I haven't used Arch in a long time (I'm on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed), but when I used to use it, it never broke on me. The thing about Arch is that it doesn't break as long as you know how to maintain it: Checking Arch news webpage before updating, doing the required manual intervention, merging .pacnew, etc. If you know how to maintain it, then you'll be fine.

>>103356442
I started my linux journey on Arch and I don't get the hype. The AUR is the only thing that I miss from Arch. I had updates break my system multiple times. Maybe I wasn't doing the proper maintenance but I don't want to have to go through a song and dance to make sure an update doesn't break my system. Additionally I had tons of problems gaming. System-wide freezing under heavy loads. Bad performance. Or good performance but with ever-present choppiness.

I ended up installing a minimalist Debian fork which I've been running uninterrupted for about 3 years now. I've run into problems where I can't find certain packages, or the packages are out of date and don't have some feature I want, but otherwise it's been smooth sailing. And gaming runs better too, I think part of that is because of how minimal it is.

It's become a fucking meme for some reason.
I've been watching some random normie tubers on youtube trying linux, and for some reason like half of them decide to jump straight into arch+hyprland, which is quite probably the worst thing anyone that doesn't know about anything computers or linux could do as their first pick.

Debian Testing maybe. It's still not that stable. Nixos maybe, but it's not really easy like arch. Really there's no way to have "arch but stable", you're gonna sacrifice something.

>It's sooo minimalist guise and not bloated like noobuntu

I run Arch on my win max 2 but I see no difference than any other "minimalist" sys-d-based distro. It's just lubuntu stripped of apps at this point.
>>
>>103344703
pretty much this
>>
>>103351957
agree. Arch is a desktop OS and there are plenty of other options for servers
>>
>>103366413
Bottles kinda sucks. Just use lutris then you can download whatever version of wine you want and put it in the runners directory.
>>
>>103359777
this is true but it's also funny af, let them keep wasting their time.

Mint would be the best if they'd put out a fucking KDE release
>>
>>103367821
Well I used bottles because lutris couldn't do shit.
Even after doing all the runners and dependencies it still couldn't run it.
So after messing around, I've reached this..
Apparently stand alone wine prefix can run the game and the mod just fine, after re-installing the dependencies.
For bottles this isn't the case.
Weird thing because I could to work before
Is there a way to get that wine prefix to be a bottle/runner?
>>
>>103369124
Maybe but thats actually one of the reasons I stopped using bottles. It just does not "like" externally made wine prefixes, and the UI is such a weird mess for trying to do it that way. I know in lutris all you have to do is choose a preinstalled game and then in the configure page just change the wine prefix to the one you made, and set whatever other options you need. I've done it that way plenty of times and it works
>>
>>103369273
