-9800X3D: ~10% improvement in gaming over a 7800X3D (which is still in production)
-9060xt 16gb: Performance variable compared to 5060ti, consider cheaper second hand options like the 3080
-9070: Currently more expensive than the 5070
-"Futureproofing": Nvidia gpus in general have been aging better than Radeon regardless of vram or marginal differences in raw performance

Leave any constructive suggestions for edits to the op. Is slowly being worked on.

Finally finished my build tonight
AMD R9, 9950X 3D running a 5.6 GHz Overclock, with a Raspberry Pi air quality monitor inside of it.

The stable overclock took a lot of time to set up. But it can completely solve a chess game using Stockfish 17.1, from move 1, in 4 mins 38 seconds, which is very fast.

Hopefully, this CPU stays competitive for a few years. The computer itself is mainly used for extremely high speed microcontroller communication, which is why it needs such a high OC. It's able to drive read 7500hz CPU interrupts, so I'm very happy with it.

You'll want to update the b850 too, it doesn't make any difference. Put the correctly named bios file on the fat32 usb stick and press the button. Wait until the light stops flashing. Congratulations you updated the bios.

duh but if a b650m motherboard is enough for you you dont need to go for a b850m , its pretty easy , watch a tutorial on youtube about it youll only need to plug in your psu cables to your motherboard and insert the bios flash to the designated port , thats all

I don't have to worry about HDD drives going up, right? I was thinking of getting an 8tb Toshiba one (X300), though, apparently they're kind of noisy. Not sure what the threshold for noisy is, I have a Fractal Torrent and while I wouldn't describe it as noisy, it's definitely not quiet. Anyways, I was thinking of waiting until Black Friday to get one.
>>
>>107160548
You gotta be lucky to do -30. And anyway -10 on a golden sample would let it run with less voltage and power than -20 on a crap sample so the offset doesn't mean much
900mv is pretty low. If you get an average/leaky sample 950mv will let it boost much higher. If you got a less leaky sample then 900mv would be good
>>
>>107160548
As the other guy said, the setting isn't some fixed value that is being changed, it varies somewhat as the CPU automatically tries to balance some values to stay stable. I use a conservative -15 and that's really good enough for me. As long as it lets the AIO handle it on shader compilation that is sufficient, same for you.

>>
>>107161867
Shit monitor, return it and get a new one.
>>
>>107161888
Pretty much.
First think to look at is how many PCIe lanes it has. More = more expensive. Most consumers only use 1 for their GPU. A video capture card could be plugged in USB-C instead. Sound cards aren't a thing anymore and people use a DAC, basically an external sound card. Network cards are only used if you have a fast network. Unless you have 10Gb/s internet or have 10Gb/s home network, you don't need one.

Second, look at the RAM slots. 4 RAM slots are default but you can save more money by going for 2 only. And again, most people only ever use 2 RAM slots.

Third, look at the heat sinks. Big heat sinks = more money. They help when you overclock. If you don't plan on overclocking then you don't need big heat sinks, even though they look cool.

$150
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/9xYfrH/gigabyte-b850-gaming-x-wifi6e-atx-am5-motherboard-b850-gaming-x-wifi6e
- pretty crappy rear io (2.5gb ethernet, ps/2 port, minimal usb A ports, single usb C)
- average VRM (12 stage 60A drmos)
- no postcode
- 6 layer pcb

$650
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/brLp99/gigabyte-x870e-aorus-master-x3d-ice-atx-am5-motherboard-x870e-a-master-x-ice
- better rear io (more usb A ports, 4x usb C, 2.5g + 5g dual ethernet, fancy bios flash and clear cmos buttons, power and reset buttons)
- insane VRM (18 stage 110A sps)
- postcode
- 8 layer pcb

Now I don't think $650 motherboards are worth it at all but they do have some obvious advantages over $150 boards. It's when you compare $650 to $300 that it becomes really difficult to tell the difference.

I'm currently using Rog Strix B760-A but it's happened second time in a month that I couldn't start my PC and the green aura light (NOT diagnostic LED) was blinking weirdly. I disabled the 5V USB S5 power, maybe the controller is glitching, or maybe the power button contacts are the problem (they are loose) but I'm afraid it could be something more serious.

I tried that, unfortunately. I put the first stick in a slot, and it worked no problem. I removed the first stick, and put the second stick in the exact same slot, the exact same way, and it wouldn't work. Wouldn't even boot. My motherboard light flashed orange for a RAM problem, then red for a CPU problem. The first stick initially flashed orange for a CPU problem, then flashed white and I got some kind of boot screen informing me my memory had changed and it gave me the option of either continuing as normal, or going into settings. But like I said, with the probably faulty stick, it won't even boot.

I even tested the bad ram in another slot I know for sure works. Still won't boot.

The 12V2x6 you can get everywhere are designed for 600w but the spec goes up to 9.5 ampere so more is possible but for this you'd need nearly perfectly balanced pins with zero headroom for errors. You can be happy if 600W isn't melting our connector already.

Here is something to start with: you may have to learn how to use the BIOS Flashback feature.
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/YCDVMC

That 6400MT/s XMP kit is the more affordable one you can buy atm.
You need to downclock the EXPO/XMP memory speed to 6000MT/s and enter generic CL30 primary timings like tCAS 30 - tRCD 40 - tRP 40, tRC can be left as auto.

That ProArt wood case appears to be discounted; it includes 160mm fans for the front.
I'd pick either that or the Fractal Epoch. The Epoch has good Momentum fans.

>>
>>107165031
>>107165252
Remove the Arctic P14 Pro fans from that list, it was added when I picked a different case suggestion.
You won't need 5x P14 Pros with the ProArt or the Epoch case.

I've got two 1Tb NVME drives, and another free M2 slot (as well as space for standard HDDs). Should I go for a 2TB NVME drive (240), or an 8Tb Toshiba X300(260 for standard, 300 for the pro version)? Frankly I'm leaning towards the HDD because I feel that 2Tb is enough space to store all the programs and frequent files I use.

Wait really? Is there something I should look for in my motherboard manual to see if adding another M2 slot will downgrade my x16 slot? I wouldn't have to worry about that by hooking up a HDD to a SATA port, right?

yes bro
yes sata should avoid that. But some M.2 slots will also disable Sata ports. Aren't motherboards fun.

Check your mainboards manual. My ASSUS x870e board for example mentions this in the storage section
>When both PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2 are in use, they will each run in x8 mode.
>When M.2_2 is enabled, but M.2_3 is not in use, PCIEX16_1 will run in x8 mode and PCIEX16_2 will be disabled.

This is kinda related, on the topic of using mouse/keyboard and arm space
yesterday I was researching the meme that is arm rests as I am researching buying a new chair and how vital the point is of having adjustable armrests so you can line up the armrests to the table while being as close as possible, opposed to just lowering them
There seems to be no clear consensus but seeing as this ergo guy https://youtu.be/uZqVPBeOhzA
along with all pro gamers don't use arm rests because it limits arm movement working "actively"
can we safely conclude that armrests are a meme on desk chairs if using a desk actively? outside of resting on them

maybe this makes the hm embody buyable after all then if I'm not gonna use the arm rests

thoughts and opinions on the armrest question?

at this point I'm thinking I will save up even more and buy an even more expensive chair than the hm later on, more on that later

Those connectors are only burning up the 5090 and 5080 cards. 5070ti is fine.

I am also in the same dilemma as you, trying not to panic buy. I've only ever had nvidia cards so I'm having a hard time justifying the 9070xt but 5070ti seems like such a shit fucking deal at its price where as the 9070xt seems like an okay price nowadays but also not the level of power and longevity I want in a card in the first placr and I'm scared I won't be able to recoup the money spent on a 9070xt if I wanted to sell to upgrade.

Something like this maybe
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/6nR9b2
Then the next step would be replacing the 3060 for a current gen card.

Consider a more modern motherboard if you want, i also massively overshoot with the PSU but just in case you end up trying to slot a 5080 there in a few months or whatever.

Do you want a rikishi? this is Tamawashi Ichiro, nicknamed "The ironman of Sumo", he has the longest streak of active matches ever in sumo after never having missed a bout! He is also the oldest rikishi to capture a top division championship which he did when he was 37 years old!

I just read my motherboard's manual and there doesn't seem to be any indication that using all NVME slots, or SATA slots, will slow down the PCIe 5.0 x16 slot.

Wrong, the wattage isn't high enough on the 9070XT to cause any issues. Same with the 5070ti.

It 100% does happen. Also you're mistaken. It's the amps that matters not the watts. These cards are boosting to 3+ Ghz like never done before in past generations and that's stressing out the TDC.
>>
>>107166326
MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4. I think it's one of their more higher end boards. I do have a network card plugged into the PCI_E4: PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. I don't think that'd slow down the GPU.
>>
>>107166188
>>107166294
The nice thing about the 9070xt is you have options if you want to avoid 12vhpwr, dont all 50 series cards use it? 9070xts have 2x8pin or 3x8pin models.
Same here anon Nvidia has always been good to me, but the 50 series has seemed like such a shit show. Im gonna be honest, ive been considering different AIB offerings for the 9070xt anyways, I dont really want to just buy whatever model happens to be close to MSRP. I'd like to be able to pick out a model I prefer. I could end up closer to a 5070ti MSRP doing that, which makes it all the more conflicting.
basically, do I get a nice 9070xt that I really want, get an MSRP 5070ti, or really save some money and get wahtever 9070xt is at MSRP... hard choice for me

Ive found two 9800x3d deals. newegg is offering a free 360mm AIO as a bundle deal, and MSI is offering CPU adds ons for quite cheap. +$300 for 7800x3d and +400 for 9800x3d. There are some nice boards on discount to combine with that for a good deal IMO. I had already bought the AIO bundle when I found out sadly.
>>
>>107165812
The 5070ti is just a better card. Wins on raster and has better upscaling. More expensive, too. The 9070xt is more in line with a base 5070, being a tad better.

keep the GPU box if you plan on reselling it for sure, and keep the little plastic bit the CPU came in. I would keep your PSU box, or at the very least put all your PSU extra cables/accessories into a smaller box and clearly label it. Different PSUs can use different pinouts, so never mix/match stuff from one PSU to another. keep them organized and seperated :D
Mobo accessories, manual, etc all worth keeping together somewhere too IMO.

Who knows, probably more about TSMC's readiness and overall capacity than anything else. I can't see Nvidia letting AMD release cards on a new node for months on end without competition. I'm sure the DRAM shortages have something to do with the lateness of the RTX Super refresh, but likely the delay plays more into the big picture.

I could see RTX 60 being Fall '27 at the latest. Likely Sony will want the PS6 on shelves for holiday '27, meaning AMD will be producing RDNA5 by then. Honestly a long generation doesn't bother me, as whatever better hardware that developers can get their hands on will just be usurped for essentially no graphical benefit. I'm all in favor of forcing optimizations on current hardware first before allowing them to get their grubby fingers on better hardware.
