OP, change 1440p WOLED recommendation to ASUS XG27AQWMG. Remove the LG & Gigabyte WOLEDs.
It will be released soon and has the best panel + glossy finish combo.
https://desuarchive.org/g/thread/107142854/#107147175

This video compares the panel's glossy finish (different model, but same panel + glossy finish).

The LG Tandem WOLED is currently discounted to $550 in the US, but it has a matte display finish.

I have the max and I think it’s the single best deal I’ve had in my build. This case is great, can’t believe I only paid $30 for it. The only issue is that the magnets on the mesh filter at the top are too weak and that it doesn’t have the holes for an external water cooler (do people still use those?).

Is that a samsung qd-oled monitor? I know this isn’t that big of a factor, but stress tests have shown that qd-oleds age worse than woleds in terms of burn-in. In fact, quantum dot in general seems to be a huge failure point for burn-in, with some LCD screens having worse burn-in than OLED (mostly samsung QN TVs and their derivates).
Quality-wise, WOLED is clearly falling behind, though. No contest. Still better than the shitty panels they use in iphones.

What is the best sensor app? I see Afterburner mentioned a lot but also AIDA64 and I think nvidia has one built into the gpu as well? Is there one that can monitor fans and the other stuff all in one or will I still need something like fancontrol at the same time? I've heard you aren't supposed to monitor power % or volts or something because lowers your fps for some reason but is there anything else to avoid tracking?

That one still seems reasonably cheap. It's 200 Canadian. The other one I was eyeing was the Toshiba X300 PRO 8Tb is about 100 dollars more, and checking its price history it's only 20 bucks more than it was this time last year. Hell the most it ever was happened a few days ago when it hit $384.10 Canadian.
>I'm sure you are already aware 2 smaller drives vs 1 big one is better if you actually care about what's going to be saved
Honestly no, I didn't consider that. I'm mostly going to be saving porn, movies, misc files, frames, video project files, and Houdini simulation data in it (Christ those things take up a ton of space). It was intended to be a long term "just put shit here and forget about it" drive. My plan is do my work on my SSDs, then once the work is all done, just move the files over to the HDD and delete them from my SSDs. It looks like Canada computers does have 4Tb Barracuda compute drive for 120 bucks (Canadian).

Iirc, GPU prices did go down to sort of normal prices right after Covid and the crypto boom ended, and we went from the 3000 series cards to the 4000 series cards. The problem was Nvidia thought that the crypto boom would never end, so they upped to price of the 4000 series cards to absurd levels compared to the 3000 series cards, and seriously gimped many of the 4000 series cards (the 3060 had 12Gb of VRAM compared to the 4060's 8). Now AI is here to pick up the slack, and somehow make it even fucking worse than Covid and Crypto combined. At least with Crypto, it was just GPUs. It is now everything. Just like Covid and Crypto, I expect this madness to last 2 years, and cool off starting in the third year. So your options are pay a bit of a premium now, or wait 3 years.

Radeon card owners have to rely on Optiscaler for the fast majority of modern titles to enable FSR4.
Not to mention RDNA2 & 3 bag holders are stuck with an inferior INT8 implementation of FSR4, if they "download bloatware to change it".

Is it normal for my memory to be spiking like that even when I am not doing anything? Just got msi afterburner and this is what it was showing me before touching anything. Doesn't feel like it should be that high. But looking at my task manager it's never showing it using more than 20% memory. So why is afterburner say it is using a lot more?

>>
>>107169319
Running Afterburner or other hardware sensors is constantly pinging the video card, which will cause frequency spikes.
That card is also rendering browser windows or app interfaces, it has a power management algorithm that calculates whether it's worth boosting to max frequency/bandwidth to complete the render load asap.

The RDNA2 boys are still getting game optimizations per AMD.
But the Radeon team's not going to cripple future features to accommodate older cards.
https://www.amd.com/en/blogs/2025/continued-support-for-every-radeon-gamer.html

AMD had to neglect Radeon chip development for a while because the company's survival depended on getting Epyc & Ryzen CPUs right.
So they were just prioritizing features that Sony & Xbox asked for in the current-gen consoles when they were designing RDNA2.
RDNA4 is kind of a bridge/stepping-stone generation to a GPU architecture that will be more similar to NVIDIA's (workstation/compute & gaming hybrid with better compute/AI accelerators and dedicated RT cores).

If the game supports DLSS/XESS then it supports FSR and viceversa. This stuff is API agnostic now as in you can flip it on Linux drivers (AMD only has decent Linux drivers, Nvidia shits itself just doing basic compositing).

AMD is far better on average when it comes to displaying 2D and 3D. The tide changes the moment you need to switch off ROPS and switch on CUDA.

depends on the cost difference. B850 is just going to have out of box support for the 9000 series of Ryzen where as anything older may require a BIOS flash before 9000 series is usable. Not all motherboards have BIOS flash utility without a CPU in the socket either, so you'd be buying an older chipset hoping you don't need a 7000 series to get it up and running first. Assuming you intend to use a 9800X3D (you should be)

I saw that. 14 vs 12 phases. But 12 is plenty for everything but a 9950x. But the V2 supposedly works with Ryzen 9000 out of the box, so it's less of a hassle.

I'm about to take everything apart and put it back together. Wish me luck.
I've been without a computer for a month.

Originally my cpu was overheating, I reapplied thermal paste (for the first time in 9 years).
Then I think taking the ram out and starting it with 1 stick worked so I put the other back in.
Then it would run for 2 hours before turning off.
And now it won't turn on.
So I borrowed my friend's PSU to see if that will work but I doubt I hooked anything up right as I was just winging it.

God give me strength.

Wait...
Really retarded question here but I asked a few weeks ago what pc I should get for ~$2000 and I still have the pc parts builder saved.

Since the gpu is like half the cost, can I just throw my 1070 in there in the meantime?

>>107170672
you can save like $100 on the mobo, will need to find some ram ( gonna be expensive), could opt for a cheaper case like a Lian Li Lancool 207, and probably get a cheaper PSU if you look around and check with the SPL tier list.
you could get a 9070xt for MSRP, and could upgrade to a 9800x3d for like $50 more.

Also consider an MSI board, they have discounted boards that also include discounted bundled CPUs. Can add a 7800x3d for $300, 9800x3d for $400.
>>
>>107170607
Not fearmongerinf at all. The 4090 pulls like 420W or 5.833A per pin on average and we have numerous cases of melted connectors. The 5090 is constantly power limited at 600W or 8.33A per pin. What do you think is going to happen to the 5090 over time?
And any information is more useful than no information at all. If you have an MSRP 5090, the best you can do is pray or drop $200+ on der8auer's wireview pro that is bulky and also has its own issues
>>
>>107170675

Not really, those are the same sticks, could check if the sku is the same upon receiving them but for my money this is newegg offering those a bit cheaper than the 2x16 pack to literally get rid of singles which are harder to sell as people buy ram in pairs and you only pick a single to replace a faulty stick
