These days my work is mostly just baby sitting AI agents. Writing code is no longer a thing. How long do we software developers really have?

The only people who are going to lose their jobs in tech are the most worthless like help desk and project managers.
If you actually program like this you work on meaningless software or you're terrible at coding and don't give a shit about the craft. And I say this as someone who prompts local models regularly for advice.

I still review every line of code and always find subtle issues, but on average they still save me a ton of time. senior+ devs will be fine assuming they're actually competent. junior devs are fucked unless they're exceptionally fast learners (most aren't). where I work we haven't had junior devs in years. I actually kinda miss mentoring but it is what it is. I don't know how quickly these tools will improve but I plan to retire and start a chicken coop if they get to the point where I'm truly out of a job.
Daily reminder that every time this question is tested objectively, they predictably find out that LLM slop is a net time waster for experienced devs. Also every company that tries it reports zero or negative RoI except for the handful of big tech scammers training slop generators.
