-"Futureproofing": Nvidia gpus in general have been aging better than Radeon regardless of vram or marginal differences in raw performance

Got my first monitor and i have mixed feelings. Using HDR 400 mode instead of HDR peak 1000. Anytime im browsing anything with color/grey it looks great. But base 4chan with light blue color or any white page looks really dim. If i minimize the page, it gets bright and brighter. IPS/VA was always just uniform bright all across. Strangely i dont notice this in games, they look super nice and proper.

You could play some games at 4K60 on a 4GB GPU if you wanted to. I'm sure the GTX 1650 Super can do Half Life 2 at 4K60 easily, maybe even Portal 2 with lowered settings.
Also it's not an APU it's apparently using dedicated desktop parts, albeit "customized". The GPU looks like a somewhat lobotomized RX 7600.

I'm at my witts end here. I'm pretty sure my GPU died. Computer doesn't boot with it plugged in. It starts fine without it. Ok fine. I'm supposed to have an igpu on my 8700k anyway. Nope. No output. Then I read something about needing to reset the bios settings to go back to the default with igpu enabled (since it had a gpu in it?). Fine. I pressed a screwdriver on top of, between, all around the CLRTC pins. I took out the Bios battery, waited many minutes, put it back in. I tried over and over again. PC starts fine but I still get no graphics output. My MOBO is a Z370-H Gaming. It has no "Bios flasback" option or whatever as far as I know. I have no replacement GPUs. I don't even know if it's the GPU or the PSU. 750W PSU and a 1080ti. I bought this piece of shit PC used years ago. All my fucking shit is locked on my PC. How do I fucking use this stupid fucking igpu? Please help. Please.

get a cheap GPU for $20 like a tesla m4 and test that, then buy a used PSU and dont panic your information can always be saved from your disk and as long as your motherboard your will not need to reinstall windows meaning anything you had running will run exactly as the same before

It's not my monitor. I've tried two monitors with two different cables. It's not that I don't get a signal on the GPU, it just doesn't boot with the GPU connected to the PSU. I was using the PC when all of a sudden it shut off and after that refused to turn back on as long as the GPU was connected. The light on the AIO cooler flashes for like a split second before it gives up. It starts up just fine when I boot it up without the GPU connected, but I get no graphics output from the igpu and I have no idea why. Even though I reset the BIOS settings and everything.

In terms of raw performance it'll be about the same. Maybe a little better but you'd struggle to notice especially as the Deck is 720p while you'd (presumably) be on 1080p. Naturally it'd be way better at "being a computer" which I assume is also something you need. Hard to write term papers on a handheld.

Steam Cube is DoA if it costs any more than 600 euro. You can literally build a whole-ass PC with a Ryzen 5 5500, 16GB 3200MT, RX 7600 and a 512GB NVME SSD for 600 euro, all brand new parts. Sure, the Cube has a Zen 4 chip, but it's 30W TDP, so I doubt it will be any better than the 5500, ditto for the RAM. The GPU is a 7600 with less cores, and the storage is the same.
For anything more than 600 euro you'd just be buying an overpriced un-upgradeable device.
>>
>>107188155
>how can I get SD card support in a modern case
ur gonna have to design that yourself and sell it to the free market buckeroo
>>
>>107188159
Normally I'd agree but consider how there are still people (mostly 35 and up) who genuinely shit themselves at the thought of building a PC themselves (this is the exact same crowd that still buys consoles).
>>
>>107188159
It'll be cheap
Valve showed with steam deck they do not care about profit on hardware unlike those jews over at Nintendo and Sony
They want as much adoption as possible as Steam itself makes all the money, last I heard it was about $1 billion a month they make from just steam

Some of you might remember me, i updated my shitty am4 rig into a not as shitty am4 rig by spending a lot of time combing the 2nd hand markets in my country blablabla about a year ago
Ever since i started playing with this i would be plagued in some games with an nvidia driver error (dont let nicotroon read this)
>nvlddmkm error 153
If you google it there are a lot of threads it seems it could happen to 3060s and to 4090s millions of supposed fixes but nothing seemed to fix it for me, i would eventually find workarounds in each game and was able to play most games but it was always in my mind.
So today i tried Ninja Gaiden 4 and i was crashing on menus with that error, so i gave google another go and found a possible fix on bios.
I switched my Pcie slot configuration from AUTO to GEN3 i also did it with my Pcie x16 slot configuration.
And the crashes (at least on ninja gaiden 4) are gone from crashing on the menus to playing through the tutorial (10 mins or so) seamlessly, its early but im optimistic.

My question would be.... what the fuck did i change with that change on bios? Inb4 ask chatgpt

Picrel is my frankenstein, getting a 1440p 144hz+ monitor at some point soon.

If it's under 500 euro I'm definitely getting one despite having a proper PC. I bought a Steam Deck back in 2022 (420 euro) and only sold it this year (250 euro) because I graduated university and no longer travel every week.

Get the latest stable BIOS & chipset driver.
Test if the card crashes on different x16 slots.

Event ID 153 is sometimes linked to disk I/O delays or timeouts. I'd check the health status of the OS drive.
850 EVO looks to be one of your better SSDs.

I would also check both sides of the PCIe power cable connections for this card.
Reseat the card while you're at it and check the condition of the PCIe data pins.

Use the latest DDU to clean uninstall the driver and get the latest GeForce drivers if you haven't done this already.
Skip installing NVIDIA HD Audio if you don't need it.

Get Samsung Magician and run the full diagnostic scan for the 850 EVO drive.
Run the Extended SMART Self-Test as well.
There might be something wrong with your storage or motherboard, and NVIDIA's drivers are exposing the error when the SSD is transferring game data to the CPU & GPU.

I'd back up important files and clean reinstall Windows if you can't resolve this.

I don't see why you would unless a) it's extremely cheap or b) you need the cores for something. A later gen Xeon/i7 with 4-6 cores would be better for gaming.

>RX580
I suggested the 1650 because it can run off slot power but that doesn't matter so much if you're going full DIY. Though you would have to factor in the price of a higher-wattage PSU.

>You're not supposed to keep HDR enabled when viewing SDR content.
Why not? SDR content in SDR mode looks 100% identical to SDR content in HDR mode for me. But then again I'm not on Windows so maybe their conversion just sucks and they're too lazy to fix it.

I assume these type of listings are either run by Chinese warehouses full of ejunk and are just casting chum for retards that either can't google, think that they're saving money by not upgrading their mobi, or are the unique brand of luddite retard that thinks their old garbage is somehow a solidly built classic. I've seen people unironically declare on the Internet that a 4070tiS is practically on par with a 5080, and on my last visit to microcenter a clearance stock 7900XT was actually 20 bucks more than the cheapest 9070XT.
>>
>>107188837
No, it's all private sellers on a marketplace-esque website. My only guess is that they're presenting the 4770k as a premium upgrade option to someone with a giga old PC still on a 4440 or something, so they can ONLY purchase a new CPU and not do a whole platform swap.
...even if any budget CPU from the past 5 years will demolish a 4770k, including shit like the 12100F or the 5500F.
>>
>>107188756
>intricate
Anon I'm not the one sabotaging Microsoft's decades-long shit implementation of HDR in both W10 and W11. It's not even a particularly complex fix, either; all they would have to do to get SDR content in HDR mode to look exactly identical to native SDR is just swap their piecewise gamma for a pure power-law gamma. If a bunch of tranny autists can get it right, I don't see why a large company with actually paid engineers can't.
Not that it matters for >>107187133 since his issue is that he got an OLED with a very harsh ABL which likely dips below even a conventional SDR viewing brightness for fullscreen white, which cannot be fixed unless there's a setting that turns it off or he returns the monitor and gets an OLED with much higher fullscreen white margins, or a MiniLED which intrinsically has a much higher fullscreen white capability.

When I built my PC I liked NZXT pecause all their stuff looks nice. Then I saw the price and I was like...nah, I'm good. Same with Corsair. I only like their PSUs.
If you want cheap AIOs look at Thermalright. They have their own patent for the pumps so they make them cheap and can drive prices down.
For fans I like Arctic or Thermalright. A bit louder than Noctua, but fuck Noctua. Overpriced shit for minimal gain.
Lian Li is a a bit of both. They have their overpriced garbage but they have some really nice budget options too.

4080 Supers that launched on Jan. 31, 2024, were assembled in Q4 2023.

You can sell Radeon but they take huge depreciation hits unless there's some mitigating circumstance, like mining. You'll likely be stuck with whatever you choose for at least two years if not three, so I would just get what you want

I can't decide between these two options:

Velka 7 + 9800x3d
FormD t1 + 9950x3d

Most of the time it's going to be a regular at home gaming PC, but maybe 2-4 times a year I might need to bring it on a plane. I don't believe that the Velka 7 can adequately cool a 9950x3d.

Word, I've been running the same build since late 2015, only thing I upgraded was gpu to supe 2070 when it came out. still rocking an i5 7700k kek. Tbh it has held up like a champ in games, but it is sort of struggling with BF6. I didn't realize 5090's are going for 2500+ lmao. I'm probably going to pull the trigger on a 5080 though, and a 9800 so I don't have to upgrade again for a very long time. It's insane how high nvidia prices have gotten.
Trying to keep computer budget around 3300 or so. I need to redo my monitor setup as well. Been rocking a 34" ultra wide 4k monitor since i built the computer for watching 4k movies in my downtime. Hyped to finally switch over to NVME drives lmao
>>
>>107189989
7800x3d is fine, but you might regret not buying the better cpu now and keep it for many years, aliexpress has cheap cpus but no amd warranty for tray units
add some thermalright cooler for that

for 1k € budget you have tough time since cant get nice gpu but all other parts can be of quality.
b850 mobos is standard, theres just a lot of options that work pretty well and sales depend on local availability
850w psu so you can upgrade to whatever gpu later, eg 850W RM850x
fractal meshify 3 case should be fine
>>
>>107190331
>meshify 3
I don't know why fractal hates 360 AIOs so much and only puts them with the XLs now
>>
>>107190232
For the MSRP cards:

ASUS makes redditors seethe because of drama with their MOBOs making chips sizzle a while back or something but they make far and away the best MSRP card feature-wise. Thermal pads, dual bearing fans, lower RPM than most competitors, dual bios. It's the most premium card you can get at MSRP.

PNY supposedly have good warranty service and is a US company if you're into that. It's the most basic of basic shit but it works. Zotac and MSI are similar basic bitch cards.

Gigabyte has that weird thermal gel that apparently pumps out and seems like a ticking time bomb for repasting a few years in, as well as shitty cheap fan bearings. They have a 4 year conditional warranty but gigabyte is such a shitty company I can't imagine it's very easy to RMA.

If you're looking for mid-high range cards: Who knows, richfag? Look up whichever one is quietest and has thermal pads.
>>
>>107190331
>you might regret not buying the better cpu now and keep it for many years
7800x3d will be trucking for 5 years at least, by that time we'll have end of life AM5 cards to pop in. No sense in spending 30+% more for a tiny performance bump now
>>
>>107188689
According to testing, the 2680 v4 is surprising very good, especially for the price. You wouldn't think so on paper, but apparently games like the extra cores and cache. And it costs like $10.

Standard PSU is 500w which is enough for this combo. If you are willing to chink out you can get one for $25.

See a theme here? Insane value.
>>
>>107190297
That's unfortunate to hear. I plan to keep this card as short as possible, neither of them are what I actually want. The 5070 Ti Super and 9080 XT or whatever the fuck that AMD is going to call it is what I want, so resale value is important but so is initial cost. I just happen to need a GPU very soon and this RAM shortage shit is making the situation worse.

I ordered something from Newegg once, never again. I had to sign for the package since it was expensive and pretty big. It got delivered broken. I called them and they told me to contact the DHL guys. So I did, but they said since I signed for it it's not their problem. Went back to Newegg and asked if I can get a replacement. Showed them pictures and everything. Fuckers told me to ship it back to them and they would pay for shipping. Okay fine, that's fair so I did. I eventually got the shit I ordered but then I found out they didn't pay for the shipping, I had to. UPS was billing me. Called Newegg again and said since it wasn't their fault the product was damaged and that the delivery guys wasn't admitting fault (since I signed it) then the customer broke it and had to pay for the shipping themselves.

I bought a $900 server chassis from them, with $300 shipping cost. Another $300 to ship it back AND ANOTHER $300 to get the replacement.
And to add salt to the wound the case broke in a year because it was so flimsy. Don't buy from Newegg. Especially their inhouse brand, Rosewill.

I just used my patented list that includes the cheapest b850, ram, 2tb nvme and 850+ gold/fully modular psu
then added a 7800x3d (oem/tray) as per your comment, a phantom spirit and one of the recommended cases that i personally like.
Some anons might come on and suggest if any of those cheapest options are terrible and worth looking around. I just filter them for reviews in pcpp price and then pick what i need.

Do you want a rikishi? This is Ryūden Gōshi he just won his match today as i was writing this post!

used to have a 1600, a 450mobo, 8x2 slower ram, and a gtx970
Was able to buy these pieces to "upgrade" slowly in the second hand market.
It took a while but i got fantastic deals in all of them. My only issue is that i didnt know better and got 4x8 ram sticks (cause more ram better) but i might heave been able to find that one on 2x16.
Once i had their replacements i decided to get a new case because my older one still had all the drive and disk bays so i bought that shitty case on amazon cause it was on sale, cannibalized the old case's fans and a new case made it feel like a totally new computer. Then thought i should replace the psu, mine was old (obv) and 450w, but i didnt want to buy that 2nd hand.
That psu was on sale and i didnt' know any better, first time i turned it on it blew a random plug on a different room that had a television plugged in. Then i flashed the bios on the new mobo using that cpu and everything went well (after the blown plug lmao).
I have learned. Anyhow my next purchase will be a new monitor (probably during black friday) and then try to put together for a new gpu so that i can probably play at 1440p with the new screen and gpu and still sell my 3060TI for about 150€ since they go for about 180-200 right now in my country.

So it was just a matter of funds available and not knowing better at the time. It is what it is.

As a challenge, what's the cheapest yet still "okay" for modern games PC you can build for the least amount of money using only used parts on your local marketplace?
>i3-12100F + H610M + 16GB DDR4-3200
>135 euro
>random 650W 80+ Bronze PSU
>25 euro
>ASRock AMD Radeon RX 7600 Steel Legend 8GB OC
>150 euro
>512GB OEM Samsung/WD/Kioxia mystery lootbox NVMe M.2 SSD
>25 euro
>first non-office PC case (Kolink Observatory HF Mesh ARGB White) I found on the website
>40 euro
Total that comes to about 375 euro and should be decent for casual 1080p gaming. A fun thought experiment.
In fact I'm tempted by that 150 euro RX 7600 to upgrade my brother's PC from a 1660 Super.

Was wondering about AM5 boards with PCIe5.0 x16.
It seems I am just retard, because only recent GPUs are designed for 5.0
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/?f=pcie_Gen%205

But even then. the gain between 3.0/4.0 to 5.0 is minimal:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1NPFFRTzLo

Why then nvidia / amd for 50 series / 90 series insists to tell this is 5.0?
Just for the sake of sticker? It's not like, they are going to optimize firmware/software to gain more throughput?

What in the FUCK are you talking about?
>>
>>107192689
>Just for the sake of sticker?
Pretty much. Gaming doesn't need much bandwidth. It's cheap to implement on the card-side because the trace lengths are short so you "might as well". It also means you can cut the lane count on lower-end cards without sacrificing performance (provided the motherboard is also PCIe5). Plus, some applications /do/ benefit from the extra bandwidth so it's cheap a value-add for people buying the cards for compute.
>>
>>107192800
Obviously he means the *performance* gain in games is minimal. You can have 64GB/s transfer speed but if the application (game) only needs 10GB/s then you don't get any more FPS.
>>
>>107192692
The MX-6 paste it comes with is perfectly fine. Get some PCM if you want but it won't improve your temps - they will already be excellent because a big AIO is way overkill for a 90W CPU.
>>
>>107192800
Nand is still at like 130MB/s QD1 read after decades
Optane was hitting 500MB/s before it was killed, not to mention it's 10x lower latency
>>
>>107192800
Well, transfer rate doesn't reflect on GPUs performance which claims to use PCIe 5.0 x16 interface, given it runs as good as on 3.0/4.0. And 5090 is quite a powerhouse.
Also dubs.

>>
>>107192865
>Can the same RTX5090 squeeze more PCIe bandwidth traffic when using for computing stuff?
It's application-dependent but generally yeah. Though for a single-card workstation the improvement is minimal. You would be more likely to notice gains in situations where each card is limited to x4 or x8.
https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/impact-of-pcie-5-0-bandwidth-on-gpu-content-creation-performance/

>I was quite certain vidya games benchmarks aims to do the same thing
I'm sure they try but, in games, latency is far more important. You want everything to move as fast as possible so it all lines up for the next frame. That's fundamentally at odds with saturating the PCIe bus because limiting the amount of data being transferred is a great way to reduce latency.

>>107193272
Well my monitor automatically switches to a "DisplayHDR" mode when it detects a 10-bit HDR signal from my computer in both Windows and in Bazzite (and in KDE Neon when I was messing around with that). I don't think every monitor does that. If it doesn't, you'll have to consult your monitor's instructions and find a way to turn on HDR signal input.
Then it's just a matter of turning on HDR in your OS, and it should just work. Might have to go into HDR calibration and set your SDR white brightness and HDR peak brightness. You'll likely get slight color differences in SDR content compared to SDR mode, but you shouldn't have anything wildly different (unless your SDR calibration is REALLY off).
If your image looks really washed out and desaturated, like the right side in Pic Related, then your OS is sending HDR data but it's being interpreted as SDR data by your monitor. Usually this means you need to enable HDR, or another problem has occurred.

---

Beyond that, Chromium-based browsers have support of HDR in Linux now (though it's currently broken for me on Plasma 6.5, lmao)
You have MPV which has working HDR support with some config options like
vo=dmabuf-wayland

Blender 5.0 can display HDR images using Vulkan drivers
Many games support HDR, though some may need to force support through gamescope or scopebuddy
Krita 6.0.0 nightly is currently experimenting with HDR output (exciting for me as an artist)
Tev is a pretty ok HDR image viewer which supports both Native HDR images like AVIFs and CICP-encoded PNGs, as well as gainmapped HDR images like "Ultra HDR" JPGs you get from Samsung and Google phones

no reason to go from to 9070 unless you want to double your fps in high res texture demanding games or a blender pipeline. it is a really good card tho and if you need that double bandwith it's worth it.
