-9800X3D: ~10% improvement in gaming over a 7800X3D (which is still in production)
-9060xt 16gb: Performance variable compared to 5060ti, consider cheaper second hand options like the 3080
-9070: Currently more expensive than the 5070
-Q27G40XMN: Early shipments had firmware that effected local dimming with no way to update, otherwise considered a great monitor for the price.
-"Futureproofing": Nvidia gpus in general have been aging better than Radeon regardless of vram or marginal differences in raw performance

Leave any constructive suggestions for edits to the op. Is slowly being worked on.

With some of your guy's suggestions, I got this far.

Any case recommendations that don't have glass panels? I'm really not a big fan of those. Also ram would be helpful too. If it's slightly above budget that's fine.

It was pretty confusing to test my aliexpress 7800x3d when the mobo setup asks "do you want x3d boost, it boosts ur x3d??" and I obv click yes I do want boosts for my 3d's
turns out that disables multithreading so cinebench goes "oh 8 cores with 8 threads" and the score was shit, but it behaves normally with x3d boost disabled

either my cpu is poorly binned or my air cooler is struggling but it immediately jumps to throttling temps when you run CB with 16 threads

yeah you're not realistically cooling that at full load with an air cooler. AIO buyers are god

I got an OLED monitor a few days ago and HDR has been a mess. So first of all i learned that despite my oled being able to do HDR 1000, if i have it enabled, just browsing websites or other such content, depending on how much white there is, it will get brighter or dimmer. A full screen 4chan burichan theme page is dimmer than my IPS SDR monitor. Also, HDR1000 displays blacks incorrectly as they are twice as bright, and you should only be running it in HDR400.
After that, it also turns out windows has auto HDR, with no real penalty to performance in games, but it's not super accurate. Using nvidias RTX HDR makes SDR content have a lot more proper detail of how HDR is supposed to look, but i also lose between 8-20% in framerate with it on (more if i turn on rtx sharpen+).
I cant believe how much of a god damn headache OLED and HDR turned out to be.

rtx hdr is good for lower fidelity games, I couldnt run something like cp at 4k with it, the video hdr is a more useful feature. Some youtube videos look retarded without it. color banding and such
The dimming issue is such that you may want to keep the lower max nits modes in regular use

>>
>>107199066
Never looked into it before, but the OLED monitor that was sold here on newegg for 399 was tempting. Like, HDR does look nice in games when it works, but this just feels so fucking broken. Windows having the SDR slider with no explanation of what to set it is also a choice.

Aldehayyat said that affordability is a factor Valve considers heavily every time it introduces a new piece of hardware. When it comes to the Steam Machine, it's planning to make it as affordable as possible.

"If you're trying to make a PC that has similar features and similar performance, I think the Steam Machine is going to be a really competitive price to that and provide really good value to it. The affordability piece you mentioned is one of the reasons why we think a Steam Machine makes a lot of sense right now. So it's just something that we thought about every time we made a hardware decision, a feature decision, is to make sure that we keep it as approachable, as affordable as possible," said Aldehayyat

Okay so my case didn't come with screws for mounting my video card. I've read that #6-32 screws are typical, but the #6-32 screws I got from Home Depot are too large. I then tried to use one of the screws that I used to mount the PSU, the threads are apparently wrong.

can I get advice on 1440p monitors?
gonna do video editing and gaming
I looked at the ktc in the OP but it seems to have severe blooming issues
right now im between the aoc q27g3 and the xiaomi g pro 27i (both miniLed)
the xiaomi is chinese part lottery (if you get a good monitor its really good it seems but its a toss up), the aoc seems more consistent but it has less dimming zones i think
I'm ok with non mini Led ips, no Oleds cause I want this to last as much as my pc but mainly cause im sensible to fringing (i notice it too much) and many oleds have that issue

I suggest an IPS monitor for video editing; VA monitors have worse viewing angles.
Samsung G50D @ $200 is one of the better deals in the US.
Dell Alienware AW2725DM @ $190, but I would check owner feedback since Dell has been selling worse entry-level 1440p gaming monitors since the G2724D.

ASUS XG27ACG was discounted to $200 last night; maybe the sales offer will return.
XG27ACS has a more aggressive matte panel finish than the -ACG, the rest of the features are the same, with some differences in hardware (-ACG has an external power brick and RGB backlight).

You shouldn't have to pay over $220 for these monitors when they're discounted.

>if i disable HDR, the first square is not visible and it's how it should be.
You should be able to distinguish the first square, if only barely, in SDR mode. On Windows, the incorrect gamma curve used when compositing SDR content into HDR space will inadvertently raise black levels to where the first square is likely to be quite a lot brighter than black. I had this issue when playing Phasmophobia, where maps that weren't purely pitch-black would become very easy to navigate in the dark, even without a flashlight.
There's nothing you can do about it in HDR mode, but you could try to install a custom ICC profile that corrects the issue. Or you can wait for Microsoft to fix it (lol) or install a different OS (lmao).

Can I get Black Friday upgrade advice?

Currently have a Ryzen 5 5500 + rx 580 2048sp build with random 16gb ram and random (ssd) storage. I did not build this pc with the future in mind.

I need a new mobo, gpu, and cpu. I'd like to go AMD+Nvidia and have my sights set on a 5060, 5060 ti, or 5070 perhaps even a 4070 depending on which is best value after Thanksgiving.

The Ryzen naming scheme seems confusing and unintuitive. I mainly hope to get an (older) 8 core 16 thread cpu on black friday for $150. Should I be aiming for something else?

My motherboard is some poverty PCI 3.0 Asus mobo. I've read that PC 5.0 cards work on 3.0 and that there's only a minor performance loss. I have some shitty ONN monitors and am targeting 1080p 100fps. The games I play are pretty undemanding and i'm not super interested in AI but I guess it would be nice as an option.

A base 5060 would last me as a gamer well over 6 years. I really don't be playing a lot of games. I have to go nvidia though because of New Vegas Reloaded not being AMD friendly.

If you have 3200MT/s DDR4 memory, you can get a 14600K and a DDR4 motherboard to save some money.
If you go AM5, a 7500F or 7600X is overkill for a 5060. Memory kits are expensive atm.
There's only around $20 difference between a 9600X and a 7600X in the US atm, you can also get a 7500F (no iGPU though) if you need to save some money.

I just picked the cheapest 2x16GB DDR5 6000MT/s kit in this list.
There is a black version of the HDV/M.2 board.

The thing is basically with my limited understanding the difference is that cuda cores do matrix x vector while tensor cores do matrix x matrix, also RDNA 2 does not have Matrix Cores which do this kind of operation and the fact that AMD split the drivers makes me think its related to this. But if thats the case and Cuda cores which do matrix x vector multiplication are useless for neural shaders then you'll have a situation in which something like a 5060 ti will suddenly become twicve as fast as 4070?
>>
>>107201515
you'll be good, just make sure the card you're getting is x16 and not a gimped x8

Can you get a 16gb 5060 ti, the extra vram means it will need to rarely use your PCI express so you should never see the drop in performance hardware unboxed tested it and basically the 5060 TI 16GB was not broken with PCI 3.0 this is the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kEsSUPuvHI4 all the other cards you listed have 12 gb of vram so the PCI may fuck them over

I have one. It's meh. Too expensive for my liking. Speakers are also ass. It pops whenever you turn on your PC. And you can't do anything with it because it's connected using HDMI or DP.
>>
>>107199177
i mean if you chose thos pieces manually then it is what it is
The psu is pretty expensive, you can get an A- psu according to the tier list for 101€ (montech century II)
Thats an expensive as fuck case if you are on a budget, but you obviously hand picked it.
The rest of the pieces seem to come from that cheapest list i gave you last thread so can't really cut anything there other than going to a b650 and get a 130€ mobo to save 15€ but if you mentioned future proofing on the chip i assume that 15€ for a simply more modern board seems reasonable.
And then there is the chip which could save you 80€ with a 7800x3d but you already knew that.
TLDR cheaper psu, cheaper case if you want to get to your budget, other than that raise your budget to 1100.
Cheers anon
>>
>>107202381
Ehh $60. It's fine. Who knows? Maybe I try the old one and it doesn't work.
Otherwise the new one can sit in a box until something else happens.
I'm not resourceful enough to turn it into a box that does something for movies or games though.

In any case this went from frustrating a month ago to fun diagnosing and relearning how to out things together.
Thank you, anons. I couldn't have done it without you.
I'll say a prayer for all of you ITT.
>>
>>107181806
Literally 3€ more expensive today than it was yesterday and it keeps marching on
>>
Scary part about RAM and SSDs is if the datacenter bubble does not pop in the next 12 months, these prices will be considered affordable as they become virtually unavailable in the consumer market outside of pre-built PCs.
>>
Actually. I can take my friend's cpu and give that a go.
He had an old pile with a 1660 in it. That's where I got the power supply.
>>
>>107200904
pls respond.

I checked the RAM via Memtest, and they all Pass after 4 passes.
>>
i have a dumb question
both the mother board and the nvme have heat sinks
i use the mobo's right?
>>
>>107202596
There is no general answer. Sometimes the motherboard sink is a giant slab that works well, sometimes its a giant slab that works worse than an aftermarket one. Just give both a try, or consider whichever has the looks you prefer.

hardware doing it's thing. it's going to be specific to your combination of hardware.

if it's working normally otherwise don't mess with anything, you're likely to bork it if you are asking questions like this.
>>
>>107202695
Fair enough, Anon. I hope it's nothing big like my motherboard is old, or one of the parts are broken.
>>
>>107202579
Did you disable quick boot? Or w/e it's called.
Shutting down computers don't actually shut it down but it enters a hibernation state. If it's disabled then whenever you shut down your PC then it actually shuts down and unloads the RAM. If it's enabled everything is saved in the RAM, making booting up again faster.
>>
>>107202718
I don't recall enabling such setting. After installing the CPU and swapped the CMOS battery, I only enabled the XMP(?) profile for the RAM and left everything else as is. My computer doesn't boot fast per se. The computer is just quick to POST around 3-4 seconds after pressing the power button, but on two occasions (10 days apart), it took 30 seconds to POST.
>>
>>107202718
good heavens. disable hibernation on modern hardware, kids. it's a waste of disk space.

sleep and resume is where it's at.

Fractal Design Define 7 Compact, be quiet! Pure Base 501 Airflow, & Silverstone SETA D1.

>No, never seen this behavior before, monitors did not do this
MPO causes VRR frame timing fuckery in windowed GPU-accelerated applications (games, chromium, electron etc) that most monitors learned to ignore but on TVs it often causes black or noise on full frame or even part of the screen.
Another test is disabling VRR entirely to see if the problem still persists.
>>
>>107204167
I'm not even running VRR is the thing
not supported+off
