Earbuds vs on ear headphones.

What do you prefer?

I prefer on ear headphones mainly because my left ear-hole is a weird shape and earbuds/plugs have consistently left gaps and even slipped out. To hell with the hair/head dent, I say.
>>
>>107200851
Earbuds. I like IEMs, cheap and works better than most headphones. Blocks out more sound than a headphone. No sweat. No ear fatigue from the headphones pressing on your ears too long.
It doesn't look as 'cool' but it sounds way better, comfier for long periods of time, don't have to worry about batteries (unless you get a wireless one), and relatively inexpensive.
>>
>>107200920
on ear headphones in have bigger speakers but earbuds are inside the ear so the sound is closer. I recently tried some not very expensive wireless earbuds and it sounds so strong that I can't turn the volume up too much. The thing with these wireless earbuds is that once the battery don't maintain the charge they are dead but hey if they are not that expensive, they sound great and they last like 4 or 5 years because I'm not going to used them too frequently... it's fine for me.
>>
>>107201006
Get wired then. That's why I prefer wired IEMs. I don't have to deal with batteries. If I need to move around in my room then I use my speakers. If I'm in front of my PC for any length of time I use my wired IEMs.
>>
>>107201025
At home I use wired ones the wireless is for street. I think that they will last me many years because I will use them like maybe 2 times/week and not too much time. And the battery fully charged lasts many hours, long enough for the maybe 1 hour that I will use them on the streets while walking or running.
>>
I need an OS that works like Windows 7 used to, but doesn't have a lot of bloatware attached to it.

I prefer on-ear foamies if I don't need isolation. Otherwise earbuds. People who exercise in headphones are deranged.
>>
>>107201235

Because they are uncomfortable due the sweat or what?
>>
>>107201257
And they smell. In theory they don't have to, but they do.

I have a problem with this 4chanx userscript on Firefox causing severe lag in using large threads. I have to refresh the page to get it working as normal again, shortly after which it starts lagging again. I didn't experience this issue when I was using it as an extention - rather than a userscript - on Chrome, and have also noticed occasional lag when typing in other areas or pages on Firefox that I don't have a userscript for. I've also tried force disabling accessability and hardware acceleration to no effect. Is there anything I can do? I'm not going back to Chrome.

Over ear headphones for maximum sound quality.
Earbuds / IEMs for on the go or plane flights (ANC) or if I were to do gym stuff which I never do. Otherwise, at home and for serious critical listening sessions, over ear headphones.
Make a new /hpg/ thread.
>>
>>107200851
Earbuds are better for me since im homeless and my bags are heavy enough for me to deal with, the only issue i've had is that mine are short so i sometimes accidentally yoink them out when playing with the stray cats
>>
>>107202345
The pixel 10 has a better battery and doesn't have to power two displays, so it will likely last longer without needing a charge. Especially if you customize your settings to reduce the display refresh rate and background apps refresh.

How do I make sure Netflix works on both my TV and my parents' TV? Both at different addresses of course.
>>
>>107204370
Does it depend on your payment plan? I suppose you could try hosting a VPN/VPS and then configuring either your router or their router to share the IP, depending where you have the host server located at.
>>
>>107204370
I'm talking out of my ass, and have never tried this, but what about a private VPN like tailscale? I would assume it'd spoof some location that looks like they're at the same location.
>>
>>107204391
>>107204400
I've been thinking about a VPN, but my parents are boomers and if anything needs to be set up they'll be completely lost. I'm trying to find a way to trick Netflix into thinking I'm just a uni student traveling or something. Everything was fine until recently, now netflix requires you to choose a "household".
>>
>>107204419
Well, you would naturally need to set it up for them. I don't suppose you're both using Roku devices? If you link the netflix account to the Roku account and then claim ownership of the devices that are logged into the roku account, I imagine that would work as well.
>>
>>107204419
Yeah it might be a bit involved, you'd probably have to have their router configured to that VPN somehow, so that their roku or whatever they use automatically sends all traffic through that 100.0.0.0 type IP address. I use it personally but on my devices not via the router so I don't really know. Good luck anon, netflix is fucking ass these days anyway.

Boot order on my B450M PRO-M2 BIOS is not saving, and i have no idea what the issue is.
I already cleared CMOS and changed the battery, there seems to be no signs of corrosion or shorting on the MOBO itself, and any other physical issue which according to google might cause this should also cause the system to not work properly(like failing to boot into any OS, or having frequent BSODS or seemingly random reboots), but besides the boot order not saving everyting else actually works perfectly fine.

Any help?

I transferred the .ovpn file to my local server. I ssh into it from my other computer, but it doesn't connect. Does it matter that I ssh locally? Should the VPN connection still work or is it the fact that my main computer isn't connected via VPN...

Skyrim is an integrated, complete system but not monolithic.

Tbf I've never seen a situation where systemd being monolithic is an issue. If it was a frequent thing s6 would be a lot more popular.

Change what is reported as used.

Generally this isn't something you should need to do, unless for some perverse reason they won't serve content unless you're using, say, IE4 on Win95. Then you can adjust the user agent to pretend to be that.

You tend to know what you want to adjust it to, and why, before you step near adjusting it...

>User Agent
When your browser connects to a website, it reports its name and version and the website can customise its response based on that information.
Some websites disabled functionality unless you use the most recent version, or a specific browser, and you may not want that to happen so you change the User Agent reported by your browser.

A friend of mine is thinking of building a mini ATX gaming pc he can carry around to his second residence every other weekend.
I remember reading (more like skimming) about them ages ago and concluded they were basically laptops.

Are they competitive with regular desktops nowadays? Use MH wilds as a benchmark

If they aren't competitive for gaming, are they any good as a media station? Browsing the internet, playing videogames a phone can run, watching movies without having to deal with smart TVs video format fuckery etc..

All I'm asking how much power you're giving up by going smaller.
I know they have worse air flow and their tiny GPUs struggle with refrigeration but maybe using watercooling or something can handle the problem.

>Mini ATX/ITX
Is there a big difference in performance between them?
I assumed once start using smaller components you're laptop tier. Just something convenient he can carry to and from the car with one hand.

>phone games
He wants to know if its feasible to play regular AAA games on a smaller case. If it isn't he could stick to his gacha bullshit games and playing old emulators I guess.
I think he would be better off just taking his current PC to his second residence and buying a regular desktop but whatever.
>>
>>107214093
>how much power you're giving up by going smaller
None. All desktop form factors contain the same components, just in different quantities.
In an ATX build you can shove 3-4 GPUs, 2-4 NVMEs, and 4-8 HDDs. If you only need one GPU and 2 NVME drives then a Mini ITX build will accommodate them easily. The actual parts are the same, they aren't smaller.
>>
>>107214093
>I assumed once start using smaller components you're laptop tier
Generally, what makes them 'laptop tier' is the portables tend to have a lot less space to dissipate heat, so even if the components are capable of consuming more power, they tend to throttle heavily. Then ofc, there's the issue of eating out of batteries... The components have been selected/tweaked to eat less power (and, as consequence, less heat) opposed to their scale.

You can get laptops that don't sacrifice performance. Ie: "desktop" hardware. Don't expect them to be thin. Don't expect the batteries to last.

>He wants to know if its feasible to play regular AAA games on a smaller case.
Steam?
>>
>>107214156
>The actual parts are the same, they aren't smaller.
I thought they used smaller GPUs since they became xbox huge a few years ago.

>>107214193
>a lot less space to dissipate heat
Is watercooling an option? Dunno if the weight increase is significant or all the traveling will cause leaks.
I haven't used watercooling in my life.

>Steam?
Think MH wilds tier of unoptimized AAA slop.
>>
>>107214252
>I thought they used smaller GPUs since they became xbox huge a few years ago.
Sorta. Most lappies have some GPU on die with the CPU - both units in the same chip can get better data transport, save power, etc but these don't tend to be earth shattering GPU's. You can get 'discrete' GPU's, which is essentially 'desktop' GPU's but prolly with less RAM, throttled heavy when on batts, etc...

Most of the space in a 'modern' GPU is the heatsink. RAM starting to eat a decent chunk too.

>Is watercooling an option?
In theory. Can't say I've seen it, can't say I've looked. You'll be needing extra batteries for the pumps.
Generally a dozen hoses and radiators don't lend themselves well to "portability" so I imagine it's not a well explored space. The weight of the coolant is a factor, but I don't think that's got anything on the fragility of these systems and needing to constantly move.

>>107214252
>Think MH wilds tier of unoptimized AAA slop.
Was jus throwin' it out there. From what I can make out, the only direction for such is a decent gaming rig... which doesn't tend to align 'portable'.

What would it mean if I'm taking a look at bitrate over time of a particular blu-ray encode and notice that the bitrate for the whole duration stays constant (~36mbps) regardless of what's happening on screen. >>
>>107215127
well it obviously depends on what you're downloading, what you'll be viewing it on, and how much of it you're keeping around, etc.
if you're perma-saving movies or shows to watch on a big screen then you'd probably be better off going as high as is possible (or rather, as low as is bearable), but if you watch stuff on your phone or maybe tablet then i wouldn't go higher than like 720p. if it's just youtube then do you really care that much if the quality is much lower than you'd like it to be when streaming it? i wouldn't go any higher than 480p but maybe that's just me.

also, storage is far cheaper if you don't plan on having constant access to it all the time. there's no reason you couldn't just keep a store of a million videos for a rainy day on a huge hdd separate from any devices or a smaller portable ssd that you can connect to a device with a cable. in that case for your phone you could also get one of those separate phone ssds that connect to a pc with an adaptor usb port, that's what i do when i go on vacation.

I've never had to use a japanese keyboard but I imagine it's available during the install; If not, you probably can just download a language pack after the fact.
>>
>>107215834
The problem was not lack of a japanese keyboard, but lack of a support for the keys that interact with the keyboard. to example
There is a key that you can press in conjunction with a different japanese key to swap between the two types of japanese key and roman letters. The other key in question will also allow you to lock the keyboard when you press it to whatever your choice. next are a few keys that are at the core (fujitsu) macros, like a new keyboard might have hot key to the nitro application like on my asus. I would like those to function as well, but those are less important than the japanese keys. Another important key is the formatting key, which allows you to format the text in any way you wish, up/ left right.
I know this sounds like a massive headache when it could be sorted with a new (english) laptop with an external keyboard, but my wife wants this vintage one for her japanese class.
All of this superfluous and not needed for the thread. thank you again

I'm looking for a mobile desk like this to work between my workshop and around the house. Does anyone have any experience with something like this?

What I like about this one in specific:

>adjustable height
Can sit or stand when working with it
>adjustable laptop shelf angle
>options for storage
I like that it has shelves in it so I can throw things in while I work

What I don't necessarily like:

>Doesn't seem to have the best materials
Seems like practical board with some generic steel for the frame as the specifications say "Alloy Steel". Don't know if it would be sturdy and durable enough for the workshop. Full metal would be better.
>Flimsy wheels
Wheels look plastic so pretty flimsy build for a workshop. If the rest seems good enough I'm guessing I can upgrade them?

I am wanting to get a GPU for GPGPU computing and want to spend as little money as possible on it. One of the things I already have in mind requires a GPU with a minimum of 5GB of onboard VRAM. I see a lot of these old Tesla/Kepler era server GPU's on ebay for really low price with 6, 8, even 16GB of vram. Upon closer inspection I realized that each card often has more than one GPU on it, so a card that has 8GB of vram is actually 2 GPU's with 4GB each. (see https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/grid-k520.c2312)

Is it possible to configure the card so that only one of the GPU's is used and give it access to the full 8 GB of memory, or are they effectively 2 totally independent GPU's that can't share resources at all?
>>
>>107217966
>Is it possible to configure the card so that only one of the GPU's is used and give it access to the full 8 GB of memory
No. For the same reason you can't just add more VRAM to any other card. Latency and bandwidth matter.

Must be CMR, not SMR.
More IOPS the better.
Higher MTBF the better.

I want to buy one of those HDDs with a shitload of games on it. I know I could do it myself but my internet isn't great and it would take too long. All I really care about is having the standard definition games, that is to say, all the snes games, ps1 (and similar gen), ps2 (and similar gen), the gameboy advance and the DS/PSP/Vita at a push. Maybe it'd be cool to have a few 360 games too but really all I care about is the old stuff, and MOST IMPORTANTLY OF ALL, I want the complete rom set of every jrpg for every system I mentioned included.

right now but I really want one of these that's reliable and where I can also copy the roms in it to other HDDs and has good coverage in the areas I mentioned. Or if someone has a suggestion to where I can find the complete romsets for different systems JRPGS, I'd really appreciate that too. Good brands? Good experiences? What's the best and most reliable gamebox? Would really love some help. I don't care about plug and play so much as having the roms, I think I can figure out the emulators for myself, but I'm welcome to having them out of the box too. Would really appreciate some help anons.

I have a shitty E-bike I want to make a little more reasonable to service. Almost everything right now that carries real big boy power is hardlined or at best has wire nuts on it.

How much power can a D-Sub carry? Something like a VGA connector. I had a thought of using maybe 6-10 pins for 36v power up to 350w and the remaining pins for motor sensors, throttle lever, and maybe some ancilliary gear, but would rather it not literally burst into flame under power. What's a low-cost easily replaceable connector I can get for such a thing? And by "low-cost easily replaceable" I mean "I can rip one out of a junked printer or some other piece of e-waste I find on the side of the road"

So you need two power pins plus 6 pins for signaling of sorts? Usual hack around it is to use something with more than 8 pins and use multiple pins for voltage and ground, you see this everywhere.
I'd be looking at automotive connectors but have no specific recommendations.

three for power, five for sensors. total. i dont have data sheets but presumably the sensors have a common ground or something, but it's a three-phase motor for sure.

>automotive connectors
99% of them are Not MOLEX and the few that do deliver real power are all spade connectors on screw terminals. And tbqh I am getting some screw terminals on order, but want something that's not quite "quick release" but is at most two screws for multiple pins for when I want to take the wheel off for service, but is also secure enough to live through, y'know, being on a vehicle whose suspension is not 101% efficient.

Supposedly you can drive two brushless motors from the same controller in a sort of defacto "master/slave" configuration but the only demonstrations I've seen have used the same model of motor twice and are reliant on phase-dropping being self-correcting under live conditions because the wheel rotation speed on a bicycle is not quite the same but will never be too different in live conditions.

But can you do that with two different motors of different size, but laced to wheels of the same diameter? Is it the rotation speed that matters or the "speed over ground" of the motor itself and its diameter rather than the driven wheel's diameter?

I used to care about my work. At least at that place. I'm sure that the night I go in again, that feeling will be revitalized. I am a lunatic, but a productive lunatic. If they miss a few zap straps that much, they can be without an operator that brings his own equipment otherwise.

Because the HR cancerware is poorly designed and has even dumber intended behaviour, I've read my own performance notes. They swing between "retard who ruins morale and everything else even worse" and "the only thing holding this shack together". Of all the things to feel bad about, a cable here and there (when I've left plenty behind and brought some from home for specific things) won't be one of them.

I am a company man. If I'm their property, their stuff is my property by extension. And it's not like I'm stealing weapons or ammo. Even on that, I'm the one saying "I have attachments I'd like to use instead of trying to fire accurately with no sights" and still outshooting everyone else on scopes that were never sighted and might not have even been on that particular rifle before.

Here's the thing, I want to create my own "tv channel" that will play all my locally downloaded shows and movies in a "channel" like fashion. I don't want to stream it, i don't want anything fancy. I have an extra computer i'm not using and I have a wireless hdmi that i can connect to it and my tv. All I want is for it to play video files i have on it, in an order fitting a "channel", so you'll have episode 1 of show x, episode 1 of show y, etc' then episode 2 of show x, episode 2 of y, etc'. I don't care about "schedules" or different channels for different type of media, just have it play 24/7 until the media runs out and then restart. Basically i just need a "smart shuffler" for an existing media player that will only play locally, because i don't want to have to do it manually. What can you recommend for me? Pic unrelated.

The word you are looking for is multicast
https://prime-5.videolan.me/vlc-user/streaming_files/en/advanced/streaming/stream_over_rtp.html
I assume it's an IPv6 thing and have no extra info how it actually performs. But the idea is the server sends the data packet just once and any device can pick it up. So it's not individual stream per device but an actual broadcast transmission.
>>
>>107223718
I said i don't want any streaming. Just play the files in a specific order on the local machine.
>>
>>107223786
>I said i don't want any streaming
Define "streaming", sounds like you just got a weird picture of it.
Even the current year digital TV is a stream.
>Just play the files in a specific order on the local machine.
So others can pick the STREAM up to see what's playing? Multicast streaming is the closest thing to a TV-channel.
>>
>>107223819
no, no one will pick anything up. I just want a tv channel type playlist as i described in my original post. I want it playing on the pc itself, not streaming nowhere. Basically all i want is a program that will take ALL my files and organize them as a playlist like a tv channel, where it would show episode after episode of different shows but in order.

Anyone know how to set chromium-based browsers, namely brave, to use a system-wide CA trust store or bundle? Everything I've found online says they won't use the OpenSSL bundle and certs have to be added per-user which sounds absurd, or involves patching .so files, which sounds equally absurd.

For videos that I'm concerned about archiving, like controversial or funny yt vids, max res. Need to factor in the rotational velocodensity degredation after all :^). For movies/shows where I expect to be able to find them if I need a redownload, 1080p or highest res if it's pre-widescreen. I'm not hosting 4k vids on my media server since most players are phones/1080p.
