>Not sure what private trackers are all about?
A private tracker is an invite-only torrent website. Each member shares common goals: collecting, preserving and discussing media.

>It doesn't matter if you use the same username in different trackers, the staff still share your IP with each other.
>Staff is reading, being /marked/ is not a meme, and even if it is, it isn't.
>Don't ask for invites, it's private for a reason.
>If starting out you should interview for RED, rank to Torrent Master, wait on account age, and get invites from there. THAT'S IT THAT IS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO

I will never ever start with the sekrit club bullshit. I will not register. I will not beg for access. I will not be waiting when registrations are open. I will not seed the way you want me to seed. I will download what I want, when I want, how I want and no one will tell me what I can or can't do. Not the ISP, not the content owner, not the government and least of all not some power tripping assholes running some shitty tracker or website that expect me to do this and that. I will always use the site that just let's me click the magnet link button, download my slop and expect nothing in return. I would rather pay for the content than start to play by your bullshit rules. Fuck you.

When I was a kid my mom pirated music off of Napster. That was my first introduction to piracy. It took like 20 minutes to download a single song. I dabbled in Kazaa, then learned how to download from message boards. From there it was torrents and piratebay. Eventually I learned about the secret clubs and got into wcd. What is the zoomer path these days? I was born in 90. What is the path for someone born in 2000-2010 with streaming being all they know. Are we a dying breed? I'm black btw
>>
>>107367352
I'm on the younger end of the age range you mentioned but I grew up with a father who worked as a sysadmin that has selfhosted piracy stuff since I was a young child with sickbeard/couchpotato and usenet. I stumbled into a TL invite when I was like 12 and gave him the account to use until I found this general when I was like 18. Went and took the RED interview and took the time to grind 500 cd rips from my local library & got into the cabal the second it opened back up, still waiting for BiB though.

you're paying to tell the people who made the thing that you liked it and want more.
>for a worse experience
where do you think the source file comes from? it just magically appears on the internet?
you're getting the same or better experience as a rip, and guess what you can just rip it yourself to have a digital backup or torrent a digital backup which is completely legal as long as you can prove you own a physical copy.
>>

>>

maybe I'll buy some dropout merch or something, Apple, Amazon and the rest can get fucked. If you think a normie handjob rip can match some p2p internal encodes, you're delusional. Figuring out which DRM locked down streaming service has what I want is worst than a one stop shop with everything. The legal experience is worse in every way, and fuck the big corpos.

Lol good one bro
If I can get something for free with 0 consequences then guess what? I'm getting it for free
>>
>>107368338
>with 0 consequences
the consequence is when you steal something that you like and want more of, there is no metric to see that people liked it when everyone just steals it.
do you think they made 20 fast and furious movies because they think this is high quality plot with deep and interesting characters, or is it that they make piles of money?
>>
>>107368320
>maybe I'll buy some dropout merch or something
that's fair. most creators themselves don't care if a fan steals their art to enjoy, especially if they can't afford it. but if you can afford to pay $40 for a tshirt and they get a cut of that it's appreciated.
but the business side of studios and labels who are the ones making the investments and looking at the numbers when they decide which projects to give resources to, they need to see sales.
>>
>>107368384
>artist does something
>business contracts the license to sell it
>business pays $5 costs per unit
>business takes $50 per product from user
>business gives $2 to artist per sale
Nah, I'd rather directly pay the artist directly than some business middleman.
>>
>>107368455
>Nah, I'd rather directly pay the artist directly than some business middleman.
yeah, with something like music, one concert ticket or shirt sale is better than streaming them 24/7/365
>>
>>107368455
nice fake scenario, here's how it really happens from someone who knows the entertainment industry.
>artist wants to do something
>business fronts them hundreds of thousands of dollars and has a whole network of the best producers working
>connects artists with people who can help them make their content
>content gets made
>business spends years crossing their fingers they recoup most of what they paid to have the thing made
>the business loses money
that's how it actually happens.
in super super rare scenarios the art will go crazy and the business will cash in, and then you have the artist go around crying that the business "stole" from them when in reality the business is the entire reason they were able to make the thing, and that money that is "stolen" from the 1 artist that hit big is used to cover the losses of hundreds/thousands of other projects.
tldr, negotiate better contracts.

funny how you can't conceive any art without a profit motive. take theaters. idk about the us, but here in europe they couldn't exist without constant subsidies. even independent movies have funding from all kinds of (state-) endowments. >>
>>107368722
All of the shit on their front page is for shitty westoid TV shows which I don't watch, so it wouldn't matter if that stuff were better laid out or organized. My only real issues with it are
>Anime releases will often not have any info on the subtitle source and will just list a scene group (who often just took fansubs and rips from other groups and merged them together in their release)
>Anime series are listed by the localized name making it impossible to search for them if you only know the Japanese name

>>
>>107368780
AB is far worse than BTN.
>AB requires you to upload shit before you can obtain notification permissions. BTN just gives you those permissions.
>AB releases won't list the translator or video rippers in their releases.
>AB also only lets you search with localized name, same as BTN.
>AB releases actually have dual audio trump Japanese audio and their userbase simps for garbage burgerized translations (e.g., replacing references to Detective Conan with references to Columbo) and dubtitles so when you look through the comments on their releases they will often recommend the dubtitle releases or burgerized ones while talking shit about the more accurate subtitles.
>AB does not allow anyone to upload fansub releases for any show that is currently airing, so it's literally just subsplease, varyg, and occasionally others.
AB is so bad and inconvenient to use that you're actually just better off using Nyaa at that point. At least with BTN you get notifications whenever a new episode gets released for all of the shows you're watching.

Literally why would you? It's far easier to just use BTN.
>i search the jap names of series and it will display the english name
I just tested and it seems to be working but I remember getting no results. Maybe it's broken with some series. I also just noticed that some series are listed with the English name, not the Japanese name (e.g., Shimoneta), so it's kind of inconsistent.
>have your video player select jap audio by default? this is like getting mad about 32 subtitle tracks
With Japanese-only releases you're guaranteed to not be getting dubtitles, but with dual audio releases that's not the case and there's never any indication.
>besides MTBB what fansub group is even left?
There are still a few, a lot of the current fansub activity is people coming together to work on a specific series. Often times when Crunchyroll puts out a series with fucked up subs or dubtitles (something they've done a few times now) you'll get a group of people who'll come together to put out their own subtitles, either original or based on Crunchyroll's script. There are also series that get full on original fansub scripts. Even on AB if you look through the comments on currently airing series you'll often see discussions where people will mention that a certain group is fansubbing it and link to Nyaa (e.g., Watashi wo Tabetai, Hitodenashi).

That happens too, but I'm referring in particular to times when they've actually put out dubtitles. Sometimes they'll even go back later and fix the subs so you'll end up with this messed up situation where crunchyroll has reasonable subs but the subsplease rips (including the season sets that are just a compilation of old rips) still have the shitty subs. Pretty sure this was the case with Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction and a few other series I can't remember off the top of my head.

ANT is a movie-only tracker. Anyway, ATH is much better. It has multiple internal groups (ANT has none), bigger library and active community. ANT feels abandoned.

Saying it is a cliche at this point, but ATH is the tracker with the highest potential. I will be very surprised if they won't overtake BHD at some point. The staff genuinely cares about the tracker and they're making all the right moves to grow it.
>>
>>107371566
Very unlikely, there's no point in making a fed-operated public tracker. All the user IPs are public anyway, if feds wanted, they could just scrape all the peers on 1337x, nyaa or whatever.

I don't care which is the default. My issue is that you can't tell if there are dubtitles.
When foreign content is translated, either officially or by fansubs, they take the foreign script and create a translation. Then, when an English dub is made they'll make further changes so that the English audio will approximately match up to the mouth movements and stuff. Voice actors may also contribute to that creative process in changing dialogue further. So you get a second English script that matches the English voice audio, this is what people call "dubtitles" and is often a very butchered version of the dialogue making many liberal changes. This isn't just an anime thing either, you'll notice this on platforms like Netflix and live action shows like Squid Games where Netflix will have "English subtitles" and "English subtitles for English audio". Dubtitles are created for accessibility reasons, so that people who struggle to hear the English audio dub can rely on the dubtitles. Basically, dubtitles are the lowest quality subtitles you can get and the only reason to get them is if you're watching with English audio.
>>107373609
The English localized title can often be totally different from the Japanese one, making it hard to remember the new English title once a series gets a localization if you've been following it for many years.

>>
Why can't movies/tv episodes by modular, like one distinct file for each stream and a torrent file associated with each such file?
>several video files (original, various encodes, all having the same timing)
>some audio files for each language (original, fan dub)
>separate subtitle files for each language and specifics (original, fan sub, dubtitle)
And you choose which combination to download and use in the player.
If someone wants another subtitle for another language, he can easily create it as a fansub, make the torrent and upload that.
If you want only a certain file for some reason, you pack the combination together how you personally want it and use it only yourself and that's it.
>>

I'm Mesoamerican and my experience is that English language resources, including documentaries, books (as in the not peer reviewed pop sci slop), news articles, and even shit like wikipedia are steeped in so much bullshit they're often worthless. Tons of politically motivated anti-Indigenous nonsense that's contradicted by actual published research (in Spanish) just constantly getting repeated on those platforms. Imo, you should take everything they say with a grain of salt. If you've got an "archeologist" making claims about a site they have no association with then you should look up the site director and read their publications because often times the actual publications say TOTALLY different stuff and you can tell how it got taken out of context and misconstrued.
>>
>>107375129
You're preaching to the choir, I have low expectations the BBC episode will be any good, but I still want to see it so I can see how bad a job they do or can give praise where it's due if they manage to not do a terrible job.

For example, based on the press images, the the Xiuhuitzolli crown looks alright, at least, and they seem to be giving Moctezuma II an actual Timatli with a starry-eye trim, but they also are giving him a shitty looking feather collar for no reason.

Also email me at saintseiyasource@gmail.com , and we can exchange resources.

The fundamental problem in archaeology is the amount of interpretation needed to make anything of the actual evidence. The British are historically awful at this even to this day. They live in a perpetual state of denial about the loss of their empire and keep regurgitating the same myths from their past, meanwhile their country is a shithole and there's nothing they can do about it. Honestly serves them right.

Some of the jewelry and clothing looks right, again as seen in pic related the Xiuhuitzolli and Tilmatli in some shots are pretty good, while other other stuff is nonsense (I still hate this feather collar thing), and the sets are all pretty bare and brown looking, didn't see any courtyard gardens or murals.

It's a low bar but it might be the least bad Mesoamerican documentary I'll have seen, based on what I'm seeing so far? But I guess I have seen bits and pieces of the Aztec Episode of Engineering an Empire I liked so that probably takes the cake.

Anyways I got what I wanted and this isn't the thread to autistically infodump Mesoamerican stuff in so I'll leave it there, I still encourage >>107375129 to email me, >>107375330 can if they want too.

Aither kinda reminds me of the early days of PTerClub, a small tracker with nice staff. But I'm not sure how much they can grow, the Chinese PT scene is less centralized so there's better opportunity for trackers to gain users and grow big. Compare that with the English-speaking side where everyone is a cabal bootlicker. It's gonna be more difficult for them to replicate PTerclub's growth.

It's not even that. There is actual research done by archeologists and published in peer reviewed journals but a lot of it gets completely misconstrued by sloppy racist archeologists who don't actually do research at these sites and just want to make a living by selling fanfic pop-sci novels to dumb ass white people who gobble that shit up. A lot of news articles then interview these people and just regurgitate that shit like it's fact. Often times you get stuff like:
>Archeological site puts out announcement on new findings
>News site says "new findings were announced at site X", and then not actually say what the findings were but instead go off on a long tangent to "contextualize" the site by bringing up a lot of bullshit that's literally contradicted in the actual publications by the archeological site.
>Tons of other news sites report on the first news site and often get confused and declare that the new findings are the context added by the first site.
>Wikipedia and documentaries site said news articles as if they are fact and no English speaker ever looks at the actual publications that say complete opposite stuff to the archeologists.

>There's not a lot of interpretation needed in representing Aztec fashion or architecture
This is not true. Nahua and other mesoamerican cultures actually use a ton of metaphor, symbolism, and something called difrasismo which is like metaphor on steroids. With difrasismo, if two concepts or words appear in the same context they take on a completely different meaning. For instance, fire and water become war and blood which become sacred war, cacao pods and annatto become heart and blood from a heart, eagle's feet become the populace, etc.. The Mexican flag is the way it is because it was a misinterpretation of different symbolism (water + fire symbols were misidentified as a snake).

>They just need to not want to make their stuff look dirty and poorly made for no reason
This is a huge thing too. Too many of these people fail to understand the most basic most beginner level shit about Mesoamerican cultures. If I had a penny for every documentary and youtube video I've seen where someone has tried to make a macahuitl only to completely fuck up the blade making process.
Just for the record, the obsidian blades for a macahuitl are made from an obsidian core (see pic), not using knapping techniques. These are long rectangular blades broken off in one whole piece with the sharpness exceeding 30 microns (far sharper than razor blades or anything else). There are Spanish accounts of macahuitl being used to do insane feats, like a warrior beheading an incoming horse with one swing. A couple decades ago there was also a company that was making these as scalpels (sharper than metal, not reactive, etc..) but they're not around anymore (probably because even though these are absurdly sharp they're also really hard and therefore brittle).
In documentaries and youtube they'll do everything from knapping obsidian as if it were flint to straight up trying to sharpen obsidian with a grinding wheel as if it were steel.
>>107375330
Unfortunately I am not aware of any. The situation is absurdly bad all across the board and there's too many racist ass people preventing the situation from getting fixed. Even Mexican documentaries can get pretty bad. There are some good Mexican videos with actual archeologists on youtube and stuff.

Thomas Kole's renders are pretty good. I'm interested to see if they get milpas right and if they discuss song-poems and the compulsory school system. I suppose I'll check it out as well, even though I feel pretty apprehensive about it.

By "not a lot of interpretation", I mean in terms of what buildings, clothing, etc should look like, not in terms of the iconography or other cultural sources itself lacking symbolism that can have multiple interpretations: That's obviously very rich and multi-layered. as evidenced by all the debate over the nature of Teotl and Leon-Portilla and James Maffie's models of their theology and if those are valid or not, or different interpretations of surviving poems/song (plebbit, but you'd enjoy: https://www.reddit.com/r/nahuatl/comments/16axfgp/proof_that_this_famous_song_could_not_have_been/)

Much as you said, don't take this the wrong way, but I think you're underestimating my level of knowledge, not that I blame you since 99.999% of people know absolutely nothing about these topics.

Well, if there's any communication method you do feel comfortable with, let me know, otherwise you can find me on /v/, /his/, /a/, sometimes /k/, /tg/, /vp/, etc.

Funnily enough, me and my friends basically went through all the literature and papers we could find on Macuahuitl construction and materials a few months ago for a project, and came away with it with a multi page document, and none of us could actually find a specific primary source that clearly established the prismatic blades from cores production method was used for Macuahuitl.

I'm sure it's a situation where it's so obvious and taken for granted nobody bothered to specify, but I thought it was funny that technically there's no source saying the blades WEREN'T knapped, though I'm sure they weren't most of the time (I say "most" because there are some codex depictions which show triangular blades, see p. There is also some potential evidence that flint rather then obsidian was occasionally used for Macuahuitl variations that are apparently particular associated with Cholula but from what I recall I found it pretty circumstantial and inconclusive.

To be clear, as in, multiple pages of notes and information we wrote up from all the papers, publications etc we could find

>all the debate over the nature of Teotl and Leon-Portilla and James Maffie's models of their theology
Bro, the debate is literally just brainlets who say "Teotl is sometimes used as singular". The same argument could be made against the Japanese notion of Kami. Just people who haven't actually spent any time looking at ritual, tradition, song poems, etc..
As far as specific versions, it would not surprised me if there were unusual variations. Even just looking at the Nahuas in a specific region there is a lot of diversity. Stuff in the codices is sometimes more connotative than denotative, so it's a little hard to tell but not impossible.

As I understand the issue, most actual Nahuatl linguists tend to be critical of their models of gods-as-processes and teotl monism, and favor a more Kami like interpretation where gods still exist as animate singular entities (rather then as performances or as a monist force in Portilla and Maffie's approach), it's just that there's not a clean division between gods, spirits, ghosts etc as is also the case in Japanese religion, so Teotl would also apply to anything supernatural rather then only strict deities.

I don't speak Nahuatl and I feel like this is an issue I'd really need to to have a specific stance on it.

And yeah, there is a lot of diversity we know from town to town or city to city and that could also be a part of it, I think Maffie's model even adknowledges that his view wouldn't be something the average Nahua person believed in, and would be limited to a theological framework used just by the priesthood, but I think even that is something a lot of linguists dispute.
