All through end-user software there are files of bespoke data structures with little or no publicly available developer tools. Recently it isn't just proprietary file formats but file archives are becoming obtuse, as is particularly obvious for modding games. The result is that someone makes a separate utility for unpacking and editing in each individual context and often times it's some asshole doing it in java or python forcing others who would want to use that tool to track down a compatible environment.So why the fuck have I never seen a grand unified file-unbullshitter? One single well-supported tool that extensibly accepts a prepared table of addresses, header structures, etc, to be able to deal with pretty much anything.

I want to play Ninja Gaiden 4. I'm using Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC. The game bitches at me that it doesn't have this Windows Media Foundation. Looking up the issue online, I can see that the name for the thing I'm supposed to install is Media Feature Pack and I have to look for it in the Optional Features menu. However, when I click the Add a feature button, it doesn't give me the option to install either Windows Media Foundation or Media Feature Pack. There's nothing "media" related to install at all. An old hard drive started having problems, its retired block count increased to 209, I think it's stable, and from what I've read, it's not a problematic amount.
