Because Reddit is a social place with user reputation, downvoting and all the usual problems with society like putting the person before the content so people will pretend to play nice while actually they are hostile via passive-aggressiveness, ostracization and so on. Meanwhile on 4chan people just call you a fucking retard if they think you are one without all the gay-ass theatrics. But it's not like users here are somehow special, if 4chan had mandatory user accounts it would be the same as any other shithole. Now it's a different kind of shithole which is mostly better but I can't fucking fathom why they removed the IP count, 100% anonymity is hell because it makes the low bar of samefagging even lower and introduces more jeetspam. Thread specific IDs across the site would be optimal. Can't shit up a thread with 0 effort but also can't build some kind of gay reputation that changes people's opinions before they even read your post since IDs are nuked after thread is over.

After almost 20 years of being here I'm so close to leaving here and only using reddit from now on. I already only browse /g/, /mu/ and /vr/ anymore and I've already got a good curated list of niche subreddits that cover all those bases. The discussion is SO much fucking better there. An unpopular opinion (or a good troll) gets responses and moves to the top, despite efforts to use sage by a few users.I use both, 4chan since 2005 and only got a reddit account in 2022. On 4chan, I've been given short bans, mostly for being off-topic. On reddit, I was getting banned from boards in my first week just for joining other (often totally unrelated) boards the janny of that board didn't like.

One of the rules is that people are allowed to be racist on the /b/ board, and racism is generally allowed anywhere on the site. If that doesn't sound toxic to you, just look at the way people talk to each other. There's a culture of being contrarian, elitist, and aggressive. Reddit also has a degree of this, but it's a lot more tame. It's hard to even have a useful interaction on 4chan because a significant number of people just want to be domineering above all else.
