What's the future for Linux?
>>108351960It is already stupidly simple to install and will become more compatible with gaming and devices in the future. But it will probably never surpass windows in a hundred years unless Windows 12 is extremely broken literally unfixable. People will just continue using what they are used to, they don't like change
>>108351960effectively illegal with an insurmountable tidal wave of save the kids laws and litigation
>>108351960eternal beta software. Last few weeks saw broadcom wifi and USB 3.0 with VIA controllers drivers broken with kernel update. It's a product for enterprise servers, development paid for by enterprise, and desktop users have the social status of a mosquito. Unironically ReactOS has more potential, even if it takes 100 years.
>>108351960Best case: 2% market share on the desktop, just as it has been for 30 years.
>>108351960More support by every manufacturer, even hardware sold with Linux ootb. Eventually claiming the undisputed role of the universal Operating System that it has always deserved. It's inevitable.
>>108352101>It's inevitable.That's a good thing!
>>108352101>You will pay for nothing and be happy
>>108351960>What's the future for Linux?Linus and RMS die of vax damage.Rust trannies start vibe coding it.The whole thing shits the bed and nobody knows how to fix it anymore.
>the future of linuxI don't care, I'm sticking to debian
>>108353178>>108353075>>108352245>>108352111>>108352101this is your future
>>108351960Systemd takes over Linux and we have systemd/kerneldRed Hat effectively owns Linux and everyone either accepts it or migrates to one of the BSDs
>>108353184at that point I'll just stop using computers
>>108352245>>You will pay for nothing and be happySoftware piracy is a good thing
>>108351960>What's the future for Linux? It will continue to improve, just look what already happened from 2021 till now. Suddenly people cared about the desktop and everything went really quick. Also thanks to V*lve... I personally think it's already perfectly usable (depending on your use case) except if you rely on special software or work related shit. And maby hardcore kernel malware gaymers.>FutureAs I said, it will improve slowly more and more and MS is trolling... so Linux looks good in comparison. As long as Linux doesn't fuck up and keeps improving, I can see growth. But it ultimately depends on pre installed machines + jewtubers shilling it. And I don't see Apple users being interested (maby 1-10%, but even then, only on old devices)
I tried Ubuntu in 2008 and did not enjoy it. got a steamdeck to replace my mac mini. arch linux is very easy to use. stable. exactly only one (1) problem has occurred: the audio somehow became stuck at half volume after I fucked around with decks plug ins. so I copy and pasted these command lines into konsole and voila the speakers are full volume again. the future of linux is probably normies like me buying budget computers and finding out linux is perfectly fine, awesome even
>>108353515>I tried Ubuntu in 2008 and did not enjoy it.I really tried Ubuntu for the first time in 2019 as a first Linux distribution, but i still did not enjoy it. Same thing, same happens
