Can any of you /g/entlemen figure out what model motherboard this is? The eBay listing didn't have any details beyond "Intel Socket 7 mATX". I know its normally a bad idea to buy blind like this, but it was $1.50, so I couldn't pass it up.

I'd also like to know what slots these are. They don't look like ISA and I know they aren't PCI because a PCI card won't fit in either.

probly something like i586? that's not a i486 socket or lower

Could be slots for riser cards.
You might be able to find it here with the advanced search: https://theretroweb.com/motherboards

looks more like an LPX form factor with a missing riser card for PCI/ISA slots

The listing said Socket 7, which I think would mean its meant for i686 or Pentium MMX processors.

Are riser cards generic or motherboard specific? Would the appropriate riser card be something I could reasonably find in the wild?

ChatGPT:
What it is (high confidence)
The chipset markings on your board clearly show:
Intel northbridge + southbridge (one chip labeled “Intel PCIset SB… 1994”)
Layout (ATX I/O edge, DIMM slots + multiple ISA/PCI mix) matches Intel 430TX-era boards (~1996–1998)

That puts it in the Intel 430TX family (or very close sibling like 430VX/HX).

Deepseek:
Looking at an old motherboard with the Intel SB82371FB southbridge chip, you're looking at a system from the mid-1990s. It's part of the Intel 430FX "Triton" chipset, which is most often paired with Socket 7 motherboards .

Here’s a quick overview of what it typically supports and how to find the exact CPU for your board:

Feature Details
Chipset Family Intel 430FX (Triton I)
CPU Socket Socket 7 (most common) or Socket 5
Supported CPUs Classic Intel Pentium (P54C/P54CS), 75MHz – 200MHz
FSB Speed 50, 60, or 66 MHz
Core Voltage Single voltage (typically 3.3V)
BIOS/JP Settings Configured via jumpers or BIOS

Chat changed its mind:

What chipset that implies

The 82371FB pairs with these northbridges:

Intel 430FX
Intel 430HX
Early Intel 430VX

It is NOT used with 430TX (that uses a later PIIX4)

So your board is actually:

Earlier than we first thought

Likely:

430FX (most likely) or
430HX / VX (less likely but possible)

I think this anon's called it. It was odd to me a board that old would have so few slots. CEnter slot looka just like wiki pic for LPX.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LPX_(form_factor)
> Due to the lack of standardized specification, riser cards were rarely compatible from one motherboard design to another, much less one manufacturer to another.
oof

Haven't worked with LPX so I'm not exactly sure. I just know it was sort of a popular alternative to (Baby) AT.
Looks like your board was pulled out of an Advent 8125

Checking there, it appears to be an Intel Advanced PO/Pocono

Damn, it is a 430FX. I didn't expect chatgpt to actually know any of this. Last time I used it didn't know anything beyond what you could in the top search results on Google, and didn't know any kind of obscure stuff like this.

Nice. Well at least OP with have a VGA out already built in, so ISA/PCI won't be strictly required to fire it up.
>>
>>108767241
Its a shame they don't have any pictures of what the 8125 looked like.

I gave Chat the board image first (and only that), then added the info on the Intel PCI chip to get it to hone in, mostly to test how it would do. It did OK with image and p much nail it with that one chip.
Both Chat and DS run web searches now in WebApp to correct their own understanding, even on free tier, and have improved a lot on obscure hardware.

Well I got this thing because I wanted to do some DOS game development and needed an ISA sound card for testing. If I can't find a riser then this thing won't be of any use for that. I could still find a use for it though.

Also apparently that second slot is for cache upgrades.

The board could've also been pulled out of a Packard Bell 640 system. Very similar layout, the pic on Retroweb doesn't show a board with a slot for a COASt module, but the archived manual does.

I wonder if Packard Bell riser cards would work in it.
