Any exam where not cheating is some silly honor system is rife with cheating. It was in the past, too, but you still had to have at least some knowledge to do well because no amount of cheating will help you with linear algebra when all you know is high school math. Now that you can write plausibly sounding and possibly correct answers by simply copying chatgpt output the situation is significantly worse.

s22 is literally me, never cheated in my life but I'm retarded which is a serious impediment all things considered but I genuinely want to learn and understand things even if they are "useless" according to random people
everyone I know cheated on exams when given the slightest opportunity (CS, all exams I had were are in-person) and they are ahead of me in their studies (I have zero debt and the tuition is extremely small in the EU), ultimately the first dude that gets the job wins so doing whatever you possibly can to get ahead of the game makes total sense, professors are paid to do their job (which is really just a bonus to research, which is their actual job) while studens get the piece of paper, win-win and with the rise of AI slop we can drop every pretense that people were there following their passion or some shit so nothing will ever change and at least we can be honest about it
