#Firefox is trending
>>
>>63369556
Wait Chrome beat Firefox in 2011? I thought everyone jumped ship recently or did /g/ meme me
>>
>>63369594
all people I know use chrome
>>
Dropped Firefox the second they started adding their own "features" instead of letting the community do it, happened just after they fired their boss for not being sjw.
Now you need a developer build to even install what you want, I'd rather stop pretending and just use my locked down botnet browser.
>>
>>63369594
Chrome overtook Firefox in late 2011 and overtook IE in early 2012. It reached over 50% market share fairly recently, but it's been the most popular browser for ages.

Holy shit, I had NO idea it was THIS bad.

Firefox is 6-13%. Edge is 2-5%?

Fucking Google just dominates everything. Fuck Chrome. We need to take the internet back from Google.
>>
Pale Moon doesn't have this problem.
>>
>>63369846
Maybe you should make a browser that doesn't suck, then.
>>
>>63369902

I functionally don't see a huge difference between Chrome-Firefox now. And 57 is really good, and better than current Chrome. Edge isn't even bad either.

Google just used their market dominance to shill Chrome. They bundled it with various programs, put up massive ads on Youtube and other Google sites, and the idiots fell for it.
>>
Holy fuck Chrome sucks so bad.

>every tab is a new process

How am I supposed to watch porn with 50 tabs open using Chrome???
>>
>>63369773
What's the difference?
>>
>>63369978

Firefox got slow and bloated, then Chrome was seen as the fast alternative. Then Chrome got slow and bloated, and Firefox is the new fast alternative.
>>
>>63369978
You upgrade from 8 gb of ram
>>
>>63369956

>i dont see a huge difference

its called the addons tab with zero support for anything that make firefox functional

the ONLY reason i still hold on to it, is the simple fact that the ONLY mutli-threaded download addon is DTA for firefox

Chrono has said MTD is in the pipeline for years but havent implemented it yet, so when i need heavy downloading, or to de-jew a CDN with shit single threaded speeds, i paste the download link in firefox

but other than that its useless, and because i dont surf with it, i dont care that its no longer getting security updates, just reinstalled 56.0.2 and removed this bullshit 57 version

>>63369978

how are you supposed to watch porn when 1 random tab on a porn site has that shitty fake hijack ad which ublock doesnt catch and the only way to delete it is to kill the entire browser and lose all your other tabs because TABMIXPLUS or other "resume where u left off" options just reload the shitty hijack tab

meanwhile in chrome, you can have the built-in task manager always running, or use windows/linux task manager and simply start closing teh highest PIDs until the hijack tab is gone and simply refresh any other addons that maybe got disabled

Firefox does not use the Blink engine which is a huge turn-off. The Gecko engine is a lost case. Bad font rendering. Add-ons make the browser slow, the chrome extensions empire is right now the biggest and arguably the best.
There is a reason why all the other browsers try to adapt to the Blink engine right now. Vivaldi, Yandex, Opera It is most likely the future.

Firefox is like an old man that has given up and hold on to the past. Only suitable for special interest such as UI ricing, customizing.
>>
>>63369556
I used Firefox since the Phoenix days but switched to Safari once I used a MBP mainly because of battery preservation. But with 57 I'm really tempted to use Firefox as my main browser on macOS, though I really ended up taking battery consumption into consideration since I got my MacBook.

No, retard. The Point of Netscape/Firefox was a.) customizability, and b.) speed. Firefox is removing customizability, they already have by removing xul addons. I used Quantum for an hour, and it is still fucking slower than Chrome and Edge.

Firefox users want:

speed
customizability
FOSS
All platform use (Linux, Windows, Android, iOS, etc.)
No tracking/botnet features

Is that so fucking hard to ask? I don't need pocket, reader mode, or any other bullshit. I'm not 2 years old, I can maker decisions for myself.

Nah, Firefox barely put a dent onto IE. They took away something like 25% usage share in TEN YEARS.

What really killed IE was Microsoft themselves not supporting it anymore; Chrome with its aggressive marketing put the final nail in the coffin.

And yeah, Chrome is the new IE6.

My sentiments exactly. If they don't want to allow add-ons to affect the UI, then they should provide the capability within the browser.
I won't let go of Classic Theme Restorer, Hide Caption Title Bar, New Tab Tools, Tab Mix Plus, or DownloadHelper. Those are my biggest reasons to use Firefox.

My beef is a lack of good addons/extensions with newer browsers. They have incredibly weak functionality. That's something firefox was able to bring to the table that other browsers couldn't, you could customize firefox to do just about anything you wanted. Webextensions are pure garbage from a 3rd party developer perspective.

I don't know about blue but there's definitely a green padlock for https connections.
>Replace context menu icons with labels (Back, Forward...)
userChrome.css
>Add up to 20 additional toolbars
Not sure about that one right now but a toolbar api is planned. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1215064
>Restore tabs empty favicon
I don't know what that means.
>Replace generic favicon (empty and dotted) with sheet favicon
userChrome.css
>Favicon in urlbars identity box (location bars left)
Probably not possible.
>Different padlock icons
>AeroBlue toolbar colors for Windows 8/XP/Classic, Linux, MacOSX
>Hide navigation toolbar
>Inverted (white) toolbar button icons
userChrome.css
>Double click on tabs toolbar opens a 'new' tab [Windows only]

userChrome.css
>Switch between old and new search
I don't know what "old search" is.
>Enable/disable 'Add-on Bar'

You can place addon icons anywhere on the tab bar or the navigation bar.
>Enable/disable 'Additional Toolbar'
See "additional toolbars" above.
>Spaces, Flexible spaces, Separators
Flexible spaces exist natively.
>Activity indicator on toolbars
Don't know what that is.

Exists natively.as a library button. Each also has a keyboard shortcut so I don't know why you'd need a button.

Possible natively.

Notice how almost all CTR features are simple CSS tweaks which you can paste in userChrome.css.

This just shows you have no clue what you're talking about. People didn't just get used to firefox and are mad that it's different now, people are mad because they spent YEARS fixing firefox to make it the way they wanted it and now all those fixes are gone. Hell if anything you're completely backward. People didn't "get used to" firefox at all, they were constantly changing it because they weren't satisfied with its default features. People spent years tweaking and gradually improving the experience of the browser.

And now all of that is gone, and they aren't even offering anything in exchange.

I'm really pissed about how WebExtensions aren't allowed to access local files.

It all stems from them removing the new tab URL setting in the first place.

Now I have to use an addon to get a custom page for new tabs and they can't read local files. So I set up my launcher page on my server but now the new tab doesn't render instantly and instead there's a slight delay where the page is blank.

The new tab addon also doesn't highlight the address bar in the new tab so I have to Ctrl-A before I can start typing a URL in a new tab.

Firefox is the Linux of browsers right now.

Only a small minority of mentally ill SJW fruitcakes use it, they hype up shit about perfect it is compared to the competition and normies fall for the meme but quickly discover what a load of shit it actually is so they go back to whatever they were using and Firefox market dips back down and stays there.
>>

>>
This sucks I fucking hate Mozilla.
>>
>>63384850

Because Google has a lot of influence.
>>

- Since FF broke all extensions, Chrome has a lot more addons.
- Chrome has RMB -> Search image in google
- Chrome has right-click (+auto) translate (extra useful for normies).
- Chrome is safer in general (security wise that is).
- Chrome is faster.

Firefox is heading in the right direction, but forcing this new bullshit on people was a big mistake. They should have started a new version and let people opt-in. Once all the modules from Servo complete, they should have done the switch by then. But yeah, Mozilla is not the best decision maker out there for sure.

Anyone knows why this piece of shit is turning itself to default?
Anyone has the same issue?
Only started to happen with the update.

>trying to "win back" users of a faster, more user friendly browser
>while fucking everyone else in the ass

Do they actually make money off this? I thought free software was immune from catering to idiots and telling everyone else to eat a dick/write their own, unless it was being lazy and making something that did absolutely nothing and saying "i-it's hackable, g-go nuts my fellow hackers haha"
>>
>>63387311
Already tried that.
I even tried using my old cookies.
Even if the 2 cookies about the board style are present they just do nothing.
>>
>>63387352
Not sure then. I use 4chanX and Stylechan.
>>
It won't win me back as long as doesn't support muh extensions I use on Chrome
>>
>>63387420
whick ones?

HOW DO I GO BACK TO THE OLD TABS WITH THE WHITE BACKGROUND???

REEE
>>
>>63387445
There's no going back, just bend over and don't make too much noise.
>>
>>63387445
userChrome.css and userContent.css
>>
>>63387435
Ublock, Tampermonkey and Stylish these are main 3 ones. I know there are alternatives for these on Firefox but there are some obscure ones I use such as FVD video downloader, Floating web player and Queuetube for YouTube which I know won't be available for Firefox.
>>
>>63387445
Switch to the light theme?

The new UI looks like shit... useless buttons, bloated & deeply nested context menus, shitty cloud features everywhere... which UI designer thinks an addressbar needs 5 (FIVE) clickable elements.. can't set new tabs to about:blank... and 100 Pajeets worked overtime to shilling this garbage, ridiculous.
>>
>>63387495
dont know how to access that but whats actually pissing me off is that i cant scroll through my 120 tabs i have open really fast like anymore
>>
>>63387492
ublock origin, tampermonkey, and stylish or stylus work on quantum. I dont watch videos in my browser so I cant say for the others. I use youtube-dl to download and mpv to stream.
>>
>>63387523
Good thing all of that can be customized!
>>
>>63387526
>120 tabs
you people are cancer
>>
>>63387532
Used firefox when /g/ was shilling the Nightly builds 4 months ago. Couldn't stay cause at the time there weren't any support for TamperMonkey either, only Ublock. Maybe now that this 'Quantum' iteration is released I'll give it a nother go.
>>
>>63387593
There will be a lot more extensions coming out for months to come too.
>>
>>63370045

Because they don't have 10 billion bootstrappers running in the background.

52 ESR is the last one I'll use.

sudo apt-mark hold firefox-esr
