I mindlessly followed some guide and almost an heroed my phone. Anyway, I restored from (old) backup using twrp and couldn't install any updates, not even on f-droid. Went "fuck it" and flashed the new rom like I wanted to to start with. Actually worked. Still unable to update, and install .apk packages (magisk manager), but I noticed an Android folder on my SD card. Made a backup of the one I had and replaced it with the SD one in twrp. Holy shit I have pretty much everything back.

Still can't update or anything though. What do I do?

I've been toying around, trying to get this to work for the last two hours.
I could ask questions and say what I've been doing, but I'm pretty lost.
I've done variants of getting the github zip and running pyinstaller on the setup.py, to doing python and importing it and trying to access a function or initialize it.
I'm just extremely confused on the next step, and it doesn't help that there are dependencies problems or I'm retarded.
I understand it's a GUI application, and it seems to be standalone(?) but I'm not sure on how to boot it up. I'm on win10.

And you're paying for this? Where do you live? I'd get a lawyer, and start a class action lawsuit. ATT has to prove that you're 'stealing' content that you don't already own, and just getting a digital copy of. They're assuming you're stealing, and you're admitting it by taking these courses.

>And you're paying for this?
Typically, you pay for internet. ANd by doing so, you agree to the legalities of that IP.
>I'd get a lawyer, and start a class action lawsuit.
OP can only afford ATT internet but he should somehow spring for a lawyer? Why?
ATT has to prove that you're 'stealing' content that you don't already own, and just getting a digital copy of.
You are aware that IPs can, and do, monitor your service, and are intimately aware of customers stealing copyright content, right? The internet isn't the fucking wild west anymore, this sin't the 90s - IPs know what the fuck you're doing, and if they don't then companies (like Universal and Fox and etc etc) will tell them what you're doing.
>They're assuming you're stealing, and you're admitting it by taking these courses.

>>
>>67594266
Same holds - lest you just wanna read user reviews.

If you're using it for high-impact multi-threaded performance, rather than video games, that only changes the benchmarks involved. For stability over long periods of time under heavy multi-threaded load, for instance, you might favor Xeons over I7's, or some such, but if it's games, it's whatever squeezes the most speed out of each core, and the benchmarks will get you just that.
>>
>>67594218
IKR? Bleh... Think the intention of the bill was to stop "fake news", but the way it was worded, that would have been basically the end effect, with both institutions and end users being subject to prosecution for lies publicly posted on the Internet. Thankfully it was shot down, but the people in power seem to just be getting more insane by the day - hard to believe a lawyer even wrote the thing up and let it hit the floor.

I've tried using Testdisk on Linux to see if I can get at the files, but no luck. I know they're still there because once in a while the drive will actually connect and I can view the file folders on it, but when trying to open/copy them it crashes. Is there anything I can do to get at them? Is there a way to (for example) rip the raw image of the disk and go from there?

Ndis.sys is the network driver - if it's regularly happening there, it maybe the network card is fubar (be it built into the motherboard or not), though sometimes NTFS corruption can also cause this same stop error, in which case it'd be the hard drive, maybe check the SMART fail rate and run a chkdsk /r on it (takes forever, requires a reboot).

If the drive checks out, network cards be cheap, so I'd shell out a bit for a new ethernet card first, but if you're a poorfag, start with a reformat and OS reinstall, and see what happens from there.

If you mean thermal compound, the nightmare is just from people doing retarded things with it (including, in one case, an infamous MSI instruction video in which they basically put it on like they do toothpaste in one of those toothpaste ads). Ya just need a tiny dot, depending on how anal you are, you can spread it out with a credit card or some such, but you can also just crush the dot with the heatsink and swivel it about, as it'll end up contacting just about everywhere the heatsink does. You do not need to cover the entire top of the CPU. Even pic related is a bit much.

(And now 500 people will ring in with their own methods - like the 5 dot method, etc, it's all good, so as long as you end up with a thin layer and none outside the CPU.)

If yer scared, while generally not quite as effective, thermal tape is a thing, and you can't as easily screw up with that.

The temperature differences between the various thermal compounds, and even application methods, are not particularly extreme (usually fractions of degrees), so I'd just go with non-conductive, particularly if you've not installed a lot of CPUs.

In 90% of games, pressing Alt+Enter will fix this. Problem is almost certainly on the game's end, rather than the OS's though, so no, a rollback won't fix it. Ya may have to start messing with its configuration files manually, depending on the game.

How much should it supply versus how much your system should consume at full load?

>>
>>67595447
It maybe a codec or bad MadVR configuration. Assuming it's a modern dedicated GPU, video is pretty much nothing to them. If it performs fine in 3D accelerated games, it's more apt to be a software issue than a hardware one.

If it's an extremely low end and ancient GPU or integrated, then it *may* be hardware. PSU's do decay, but if you're playing games on this thing, that's going to stress both the GPU/PSU far more than any video, regardless of how mad your madvr settings are.

Use your package manager to install it. Each distro has way for formating tar files so the package manager can handle them
Debian has apt
Arch has pacman
They are not interchangable, but they use he same source files.
You need to use your package manager in the cli and use the search query to find the package(thought it should just be "ungoogled'chromium") then you would use your package manager to install it.

why do good tablet pens cost so much? cheap ones write and feel like shit, they're hella inaccurate and usually way too lightweighted to feel comfortable, but i'm not sure what makes some better than others. do the nicer ones use some kinda electronic calibration to be more accurate and precise, or are they analog devices? It seems like the more expensive they are, the smaller the tip is, which is certainly useful for accuracy and better than a 10 dollar pen that whose tip is so broad that it's bigger than a pencils eraser and as weightless as a plastic straw, but is that all you're paying for? Is it really that expensive to make small rubber tips and give it a sense of weight?? or is this all just capitalist trickery that made it an industry standard to make people pay $100 for a steel pen.

>>
>>67598332
Higher resolution tablets require more processing power and sensors, but keep in mind that the price of things in general is only loosely affected by the material's cost, and much more strongly affected by what folks are willing to pay. Similarly, companies like to make "tier" costs, where often something is nerfed into near uselessness, priced down for the lower consumer, despite the fact that the production of this alternative actually costs them just as much, or even more, than the higher tier product.

True for everything, from cars, to hardware, to food.

50Hz just means your TV cannot display more than 50fps since it refers to how many times, on a technical level, your TV can refresh its displayed picture per second ( = refresh rate) - what fps your PC feeding into the TV can produce internally, is generally independent. One exception is say you enable VSync in your game or whatever, then it will "artificially" limit itself to not produce any more frames past 50fps, provided it can get that high or over to begin with. I tend to prefer this because it prevents tearing (visual artifacting from basically your TV not being able to keep up with the number of frames "readied" by your PC), which is harmless but annoying to me. A lot of people prefer the opposite because even though they cannot "see" more than 50fps in this case, the game still "resolves" inputs, physics etc. at a higher rate, making the game feel more responsive.

Why your TV is only 50Hz I don't know; I think this used to be fairly common but I don't think it's too surprising altogether (could be some combination of technical factors on your particular model, or it was somehow just cheaper to produce that way idk). Consider also that most content seen on a TV is not played back at 50fps (or higher) to begin with; I think live sports and such are an exception but then the "missing" 10Hz probably don't make much of a difference visually

>>

fps (e.g. video game) and Hz (display refresh rate) are not the same. Yes, your TV cannot display more than 50 individual images per second but no, your PC is not limited to 50fps because of it

I feel your primary concern should be DRM and system compatibility. Your backups/copies are of no use if you cannot install them because your Steam account is not accessible (for any reason - compromised, whims of Valve, ...). And the same is true if you don't have hardware to run the OS and programs required for emulation, or somehow don't have access to that software anymore (say, Microsoft drops 32bit application support in newer Windows versions etc.).

My point is that I reckon you will encounter these problems -before- you encounter data corruption. And data corruption can probably be avoided to a good degree by having multiple copies and re-copying every few years. But beyond that, go nuts - NAS, magnetic tapes, store them in a safe, what do I know - there is a market for that, shouldn't be too hard to find possible paths

...and possibly hardware! I think there is some info on LGR's channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/phreakindee/) about how / what he does to get his older games to run, so maybe look for that for inspiration.

Also, I'm a big fan of gog.com because all their games are (legally) DRM-free, so at least that stupid barrier/risk is out of the way...

Because DRM can render your game unplayable.
Take MGSV for example, it requires you to be online the first time you launch the game, otherwise it won't let you play it, when the server it contacts goes down (it will go down) then the game will be rendered permanently unplayable, with the exception being the cracked version of it.

I'm such a moron.

Recently, there was a bug with newpipe where it wouldn't open any streams on YouTube. I uninstalled the version that I downloaded from f-droid and installed the version that was on Github. this version could play YouTube videos, but it would not allow me to open YouTube links with it, it simply wouldn't show up in my list of default apps for the action associated with tapping a YouTube link.

I thought that choosing another default app might fix that, so I allowed YouTube become the default application (I checked the always open with this app checkbox).

Now, though, I can't prevent YouTube from being the default application when I click a video link. It used to show Firefox as an option, and now there's no option at all. There's also nowhere to change it in the default apps area of my phone. (Pick related, it's every default app that I can see under settings -> default apps) Am I stuck using the official YouTube app forever?

Tl;dr : made a problem worse by trying to overthink it, and not sure I can unfuck it

So I've been looking at laptops lately, and as always, I figured just look at Intel mobile processors (U series, like i5-8250u) and don't pay any attention to AMD (U series, like 2500u)

Except, I saw someone say the AMD actually outperforms the Intel in certain areas. I looked up some benchmarks but truth be told I don't understand what I'm looking at. The Intel has some higher CPU scores, but I'm not sure how substantial they are. The AMD has better GPU performance.

Is there any reason to go for one over the other? Does anyone have any experience, or know anything about these processors and can offer some tips? I've generally used Intel, will the switch to AMD cause any program issues or anything weird like that? Aren't some things designed for Intel processors?

What do I do now? I've tried resetting the bios, but it didn't change anything. Now my best guess is that I should reflash the bios. Any idea?
I've tried looking on google if anyone else had the same issue but it seems like I'm the only one in the world with this.

Something happened to my PC recently and I have no idea what caused it.
I can only have two monitors plugged in at one time.
One day my third monitor died out of nowhere and I blamed it on the adapter, but after some trial and error I figured out the monitor and the adapter works perfectly, but as soon as I plug in a third monitor the second one loses connection.
What could cause this? Maybe a problem with the PSU? I have a 1000 watts one so I ruled that out but maybe it's faulty?
Or maybe a windows update overnight broke everything?
>>

can't say i've seen a laptop that has no backlight during boot, but work when enabled
you certain it's /just/ the backlight, and the laptop isn't just trying to output to an external monitor?
tried pressing brightness/display buttons while in the bios/post?
updating the bios wouldn't hurt, might as well cross it off the list

I've tried to put my phone's torch on the screen during boot. It seems like the LCD displays fully white pixels during boot until linux boots, so it doesn't even try to display the OEM picture.
The LCD also stays white (but looks black because of no backlight) while in bios setup. Backlight buttons don't seem to do anything.
>>
>>67603029
that doesn't sound normal
what comes to mind to be is that the gpu or display hardware itself isn't initializing properly, and only gets going once linux resets it (drivers often reset hardware as they're loaded so the hardware is in a known state)
it's still not impossible that it's a common-ish issue with a bios fix, but it sounds like a hardware issue, testing another display isn't easy with a laptop, though, and replacing the gpu is basically practically impossible

I got some corrupted pixels when starting gnome which made me think it may be a GPU issue (Nvidia 950M), gone after a reboot but gnome won't start properly. I'll fix gnome first, then install Windows as I just saw a bios update was released on the manufacturers website during the time period I didn't use this laptop.

ps. you don't need to install windows to run small programs, you can run them from from PE (the live environment used during setup). just hit shift+f10 on the first screen to bring up a cmd window, if you want a pseudo-explorer window, you can open notepad and bring up it's open dialog to browse 'computer' and run programs from there
keep in mind the 64bit PE does not include WoW64, so it can /only/ run 64bit programs

Hi. Ive got a thinkpad x200s. I left my charger at work (90W/20A). Im about to go on a trip for 4 days and I need to take my x200s with me for work. I still have a X60 charger (65W/20A) laying here at home.

OK. I couldn't find a flash drive big enough so I just used a hard drive with windows on it and booted from it.

I'm back to square one.

Upgraded the bios and nothing changed. I've also noticed that Windows doesn't detect the laptop's screen at all but maybe that's because the install was for a desktop computer and it's missing a ton of various drivers, so I had to plug in an external monitor. The release note for the bios update only mention fixes for Intel's ME.
On the other hand, gnome works, there's no visual glitch or anything since installing nvidias proprietary drivers.
I'll do some stress tests but I doubt I'll find anything relevant.

hmm, it not initializing with no proper video driver does suggest it's the (re)-initialization of the gpu that gets things going
i'm not sure what you can expect from such a gpu, i suppose it doesn't /really/ matter so long as graphics programs aren't crashing, and you're not running important calculations on the gpu

I don't think it's a GPU issue. AFAIK, the GPU isn't responsible for setting the brightness. I'll just have to deal with it. It's not like it's unusable.

>>
>>67604225
it's not just the brightness though, you've said it displays an all-white picture during post, that isn't normal
besides the gnome issue (which might be a coincidence), the white screen, backlight, and functionality-after-reinitialization, still could indicate a problem only with the display hardware (aka, the stuff /between/ the gpu and the actual panel)
if that is the case, it might be repairable (by replacing the display), unfortunately, you can't just plug in a friends' display or a tv like you can a desktop to test if this is the case

When I work on my notebook, I always use a USB drive. It is a Transcend JetFlash 710 USB 3.1. It obviously is plugged into my notebook's USB 3 socket.

The reason I always work with a USB is that I got encrypted containers and I fetch the various files from there. Later on, I copy the containers that I have used onto my HD and upload them to the cloud.

My question: I do that now for several years. Does that practice in any way damage my notebook? The USB stick gets a bit warm but I would not say hot.

Thanks a lot for your opinions.

>What are some of the drawbacks of AMD?
Back in the day, there was the problem of support, AMD having such a small market share that the software makers tended not to give a shit, plus what looked like outright collusion between Intel and Microsoft to keep them down, but AMDs are now common enough that this isn't an issue.

There is the newer problem that AMD, after eating ATI, is still a smaller company competing with high end giants on both ends of their market line (Intel and Nvidia). They often seem to have overextended themselves, and sometimes their software suffers for it, if not their hardware.

>these processors specifically there's a more clear cut answer?
It likely depends on what you're going to use the processor for. But they are close enough that you aren't apt to notice the difference. In most situations, the Intel is going to do slightly better, in this case, particularly if the laptop also has a dedicated GPU, but in either case, it's not really a deal breaker, as is usually the case with CPU's in the same tier.

Much bigger factor between two such laptops is going to be whether or not the laptop has an SSD and the like.

It maybe your graphic drivers defaulted to a different full screen resolution - check their settings. If the games are both using the same engine, look up their configuration files, and be ready to dive into them via notepad or some such.
