If you had to choose between a phone with IR blaster or NFC reader, which one would it be?
>>
>>68413505
ir blaster, i've got one in my phone and at least i make some use of it like once every two weeks at least
and as for nfc, i never had any device with nfc support and i also never missed it, in my view nfc is purely pointless and useless
>>
>>68413505
IR

Haven't used NFC once on my phone yet, but I lost my IR blaster I used for my TV and living room lights
>>
>>68413505
IR for sure, I use it almost daily and my country has only began to introduce mobile NFC payment so that isn't really necessary atm.
>>
>>68413505
NFC.
I don't even have a TV to control because who even bothers with one any more?
I love Android Pay though, great for security and convenience

Samefag-answering to myself:
For me, I can't fucken choose. I like IR to (very rarely) fuck around with other people's TV's and such devices, but I don't use it for my own devices.
On the other hand, I use NFC a few times a month to check data from a card I keep in my wallet.
Fuck.

How bad is BT for headphones? I hear A2DP is alright, and AptX is good but many headphone manufacturers don't support it. I also read a lot of complaints about pairing issues and latency (at least 250ms) which would drive me nuts when watching videos. Is it really that bad, and if so why is everyone onboard with ditching the 3.5mm jack?

If phones were just a little thicker, couldn't phone makers just allow the notch to be exactly the dimensions needed to house the sensors and speaker(s)? That's the only thing I see Apple (and inevitably Samsung too) improving on going forward is creating a smaller notch.

>>
>>68417846
Why dont you like the curved screen? I've always like the look and feel of them. Im in the same position except also semi considering pocophone f1 and the s9+ as its super similar to note 9 but can be had for like $725. I still am leaning toward note 9 6gb version as i think i would use the s pen and slightly larger screen.
>>
>>68417674
Spend no money on R&D because chinks don't give a fuck about patents, they don't get taxed because Shenzhen is a special zone, they don't spend on marketing, Xiaomi in particular have a bigger picture thing where they want to make the Mi brand a smart home thing so the phones are basically the foot in the door+ they have ads in big markets like India and China.
>>
>>68417867
there must be some noticeable daily use drawbacks though, you cant just make an essentially identical device for 1/3 the money
>>
>>68417866
Honestly it looks gimmicky. A friend of mine has one and says that sometimes it gets in the way. It just seems obnoxious.
>>
>>68417889
You can if you don't actually care about the profit margin. Xiaomi can price so aggressive on phones because the phones aren't the money makers.
>>
>>68417906
I like it but the $580 for 8gb and sg 845 and the overall design of the 6t are super tempting. Im a fan of wireless charging but for that price it might be too goo to pass up. I was considering dealing with my cracked / shattered phone a while longer to see what the s10 is like in Feb but im sick of waiting.
>>
>>68417981
i guess the 1+6t also isnt IP rated which is sort of unfortunate
>>
>>68417889
Well Pocomeme doesn't have NFC or Wireless charging or waterproofing or OLED or Widevine v1 so you can see the cut corners vs a flagship's flagship. The Chinese also get the same parts cheaper because they buy the batches with more QC failures that the big boys won't accept.
>>
>>68417981
Exactly. That's some damn good hardware.
>>
>>68418014
I may just end up ordering it and if somehow the s10 comes out and is incredible or they announce a release date for that foldable phone i can get that and not feel too bad.

Why would any manufacturer be allowed to sell lots that have QC failures in the first place. Just weird.

>>68418004
Wireless charging needs to be completely rethought and it's a smart move not to include it. Widevine V1 isn't some hardware cost cutting measure, it's a certificate which doesn't mean much, since there are modded Netflix apks with HD enabled.
>>68418077
>Why would any manufacturer be allowed to sell lots that have QC failures in the first place. Just weird.
They are selling hardware which didn't score as much in their control test, not hardware with inherent failures. This really doesn't mean much, because Samsung has been using low quality EMMCs in the original Galaxy Note, Note 2 and Note 4.

>>68417102

>>68418178
Isn't the new advocacy for battery preservation keeping your power as close to the middle as possible (or at least not getting it at very low or very high), as in spending small/charging small is the optimal battery maintenance?
>>
>>68418232
I have friends that worked in battery related research in University, we are passed that stage of batteries. It doesn't really matter how much you charge it or where you keep the battery on average. Number of cycles are what matter but it doesn't matter if you do that in one full to empty charger or 4 25% cycles it's basically the same
>>
Dumb question: what smartphone has the best quality microphone?
>>
>>68417889
They don’t give a fuck about making a profit on the phones. They use them to get you to use there services, which they make money on. Or to order there other products, which make fatter profits. The model is to sell these on thin margins, to get them known and in other markets and to spread the brand around and people will think “hey this band is great” and order the other stuff they sell.

I've got the 64 gig/4 gigs of ram model of the Moto X4 and it's pretty astonishingly nice for something that cost about $400 kangaroobucks. Screen's really nice for a plain LCD panel with great viewing angles and fairly accurate colours, everything I'm doing is a step up in responsiveness from my 2015 flagship I had previously, the moto gestures for turning on the flashlight or camera are surprisingly useful and the device itself feels pretty nice in the hand for something so cheap. Certainly doesn't feel like a budget device in any way, shape or form. Haven't had it long enough to know if there's any long-term issues but I could totally recommend the thing.

I have a galaxy s7 which i bought around the time it came out. I hardly download apps for it since I dont really do the social media thing. Only thing i really have on it other than the bloatware shit is my bank app and an app i use for work stuff.
I noticed my phone seems to get slower throughout the year, it just feels so sluggish at times.

Mi8 comes with a silicon case in the box which should do a decent job protecting the phone, if you want another case then the Mofi fabric cases look really nice IMO, they make one for the Mi8. I'd say tempered glass protectors are worth it too, they might or might not protect the screen from cracking from drops, but it'll definitely help keeping the screen scratch-free.

I used to believe that this is a meme but I have a 1st gen Pixel XL running Oreo 8.1 and S7 running Oreo 8.0 and the latter is so much fucking slower it's hilarious. The Pixel meanwhile is still as fast as when it was new 2 years ago.

People don’t optimize software anymore, along with hardware degradation leads to slower devices.

Do you recommend any lesser known custom ROMs or is it fine to just go with Lineage to unbloat phones and get more control over it?

Fug. I plan to get the smaller Pixel 3 this time round but it has an (inferior) LG screen.

It's $230 for the 32GB version

>That was on sale last year for 300
That was the 32GB version, not the 64GB one
