So I finally got a stereoscopic display (Looking Glass Portrait) and was looking for some content. The thing is: Those cross-eyed images don't work with that display. I need a proper depth map.
Then it occured to me that the stereo threads of 2014-2016 are long gone (probably due to the downfall of the 3DS). Also, dephty (along with all the images saved there) doesn't exist anymore. I feel like this is an art lost to time.
Nowadays I'm mostly lurking on /aco/ and /d/ but I thought I'd ask here. Maybe someone here remembers the "old" days and knows where to get some decent depth-mapped pictures.

I'm posting cross-eyed images from older threads to make this more than a request. Discussion is also encouraged.

Well, I found a workflow to make those stereo images viewable. Unlike images with full depth maps it suffers from the need to hold my head in one place (like on the original 3DS) but fair enough.

How the hell do you make these?
Would like to make some of my own.
>>
>>6242097
The really good ones are hard to make since to make a “genuine” one you have to draw the same picture twice but from slightly different perspectives (the distance between two eyes, ideally)
>>
How do I view these? What do I need?
>>
>>6242210
Just stare at them as if you're looking through the pic, and move your eyes so that the right pic from your left eye and the left pic from your right eye merge. The merged middle will be 3D.

So I tried to take some photos of the device in use but the photos don't really do it justice (it looks a lot clearer on the device). The device is a Looking Glass Portrait which is priced at around 250 Euro. There are larger devices available which are exponentially more expensive. There are plugins for various file formats, 3d software and game engines (currently Unity and UE).
Pic related is a quick untweaked render of a model I found on /aco/. 3d models work better than 2d art because you can render views for >100 different angles from them rather than two.

And this I made from two screenshots I took in FFXIV. One normal plus one where I applied a shader that just displayed the depth buffer. I can only use still scenes for this procedure right now because I still need to write a custom shader that outputs color and depth information at the same time (so that I only need to take one picture). Like I said in the other post, it looks better on the real device (especially the far background in this one).

So, single images with depth maps can work but depending on the image there are a lot of edge cases that don't work tha well because there's just too little in one image (can't show what isn't there).

Cross your eyes so you see double-image in the center. Move your head back and forth until the two extra images in the center are the same size; you might already be at a good distance. Then tilt your head left right to have the images align.

The image in this reddit post might be helpful, it's basically the same technique but for another purpose.

This thing, right? Weird shit, I just got an ad for it earlier today- seemed interesting enough for me to look into, though I'm iffy on the price. How are you enjoying it so far, anon? I'm shit at content creation, so I was thinking of having it just as a sort of changable shadowbox style thing.
>>
>>6242526
please tell me you didn't buy that thing just to look at porn
>>
>>6249097
lol what's wrong with that? I bought an Oculus Rift for porn. Sure, I screwed around with some VR games but they were pretty boring. 95% of the time I've used the thing has been for VR porn, which is incredible.

A VR headset combined with a silicon fucktoy/rubber vagina is absolute heaven. I've had to stop using it because I live with a girlfriend now and I need to save my energy for her, but when I was single I used it every day.

So far, I don't regret buying it. It works pretty much exactly as can be reasonably expected. As for the price, I think it's ok for a high tech toy. Considering there are people who could make use of this professionally (not me) this might be quite reasonable for them.
I'm also not a content creator (I'm a software dev) but I was able to generate depth maps through a neural net (BoostingMonocularDepth) which did work pretty darn well.
Here's an unedited example result. Use this link if you want an interactive demo: http://depthy.stamina.pl/#/ip/GLNMqwS

If there's demand, I can post more.

I can see VR as a more legitimate option compared to the...stereoscopic picture frame or whatever. Especially with there being more affordable options these days. But I suppose there is an appeal to the 3D aspect without having to put on a headset.

Oh... I'm quite surprised this thread still exist ! I'm quite nostalgic about it as back then, I tried a different method to create cross-eyed stereoscopic pictures based on regular one. This is also the reason I tried to do camera mapping based animation (I though that was puppet animation) but adding the depth element in it.

Here's some of the stuff done back then.

Warning : Autistic level !

When I saw the "official" method to convert regular picture into stereoscopic one (the one involving only Photoshop), I didn't liked it due to lack of visual feedback during the process. Instead, and since I haven't heard of Depthy, I tried using Blender for that.

Here's how it work :
- You separate body parts (and background) the same way you would do it for motion tween/puppet animation. I've used Gimp for that but any art software with layers support work.
- You place those layers into 3D planes in Blender. Instead of applying the texture the regular way (UV mapping), the camera mapping method is used (using "UV Project" modifier) using the camera you'll use to render.
- Doing that, the texture will be distorted on the mesh but will look the same from the camera.
- Use edit mode and sculpt to place, rotate and give volume to each body parts. You should get some sort of "potato bowl" on each mesh.
- If you're crazy enough, you can create an armature, rig each mesh and start animating.
- And here is it : you have a Frankenstein 3D object and all you have to do is to set up the camera to render in stereoscopy.

<-- Here's how the project look from a different point of view. The project is slightly different from the videos posted here cause I wanted to create an actual VR version of it. But due to lack of interest and actually weird result, I've kept the project as is for years (I can still render in fisheye though).
>>
>>6253013
Nice! I was thinking about using Blender like this but thought it was too much effort. Now that I know that someone has already done it (no matter how autistic) I kinda want to try it myself.

Meanwhile, I've written a script to split a video into frames, run depth estimation on it and reassemble the video. It has some (expected) issues regarding continuity and could be massively optimized by not doing depth inference for every frame but it works well enough for a fully automated tool.
>>
>>6253027
Sound interesting for the script part but completely pointless here since you only have a single picture to deal with.

On the stuff I've done, a script was also used to automate the multiple body part (manually cuted out) into textured planes using camera mapping.
>>
>>6253076
You've been so helpful already. Would you mind sharing some of your files as well?

Here's the one from the last screenshot.
https://mega.nz/file/nAcWhJ5Z#HlZHHtOqYOKHi64VsNwJLB2HurNI824geJ7NtGkRR6U

It's not exactly at the same state as I did years ago (Blender render was used, Blender <2.79 used, additional randomness for VR rendering) but I set it to have a render close to the stereoscopic video.
I did that as a joke (it was the first one), not really optimized with empty used as IK controller.

If you want, you can try to render in fisheye for VR usage.

I've been interested in stereoscopic porn for a really long time now. My logic back then was that if I could make porn 3d, it'd feel more real.
Scrolling through the thread, I realised why that didn't work. I thought to myself "The thing that would REALLY make these feel alive like I always wanted is animation"
And here we are! Animated stereoscopic images. Amazing. Do you have / could you make more?

I whipped up my own stereoscopic edit a while back but I did it manually in fire alpaca so it's a bit rubbish. Plus I rushed it a bit. Also not really /h/ content but it's all I got and I wanna contribute to the thread.

>>6254642
Those were made years ago including hentai (only 2 missing), western art (rule 34 and original stuff) and some furries bring it a total of about a dozen plus crappy ones. Since it's /h/ here, I can't really post those.

I don't really plan to make more (at least as a regular basis) due to lack of general interest and lack of motivation.
