I think it's not (only) that they don't want to do dark/depressing endings, it's just a lot harder to keep stakes in a story where the antagonist always wins with little-to-no-effort. It's not as big of a problem in shorter stories, but you start getting into stuff with dozens and dozens of chapters and it's hard to keep things interesting if there's no chance of success for the protagonist/failure for the antagonist. A lot of longer visual novels and games suffer from the same issue, but they can often hide it behind gameplay or art. They can also tell a different kind of NTR story, where the story is about the protagonist slowly realizing what's happening to his loved one. It's pretty easy for games/VN to show the players stuff that the protagonist misses (appearances being askew, muffled voices in the background, etc), but a first-person novel can't really show the reader something that the protagonist isn't aware of.

I finished the main story of RJ376918, it's pretty good. It's basically a kinetic novel though there's no choices. It's got a really unique development halfway through leading to the NTR which I can't say I've really seen executed before. The art could be better, but it's a cute ntr story that if you like the genre I'd pretty easily recommend. The fact that many of the scenes are through windows helps to mask some of the mediocre art, but I wish the writer had drawn on rings where relevant, since it's in the story and it wouldn't be too much work. Interestingly, it seems like the end of game recollection room has ~4 or 5x the scenes of the base game. Interesting decision to not put them in during the story but it makes it easier to read them at least, not like there's gameplay.
Personally after seeing the epilogue I'm pretty excited for the sequel, seems like it'll be good but it's going to be NTS with another character I won't spoil.

I have no idea what's causing it. I've tried it on both the desktop and browser version, and no crashes occur. The few people I've had tested it never encountered one this way either. I'm using chrome as well. The crashing and slow movement speed appears to be something entirely caused by the browser version lagging, and specifically your computer's experience trying to run it on itcho.
