I finally got around to re-watching all of the Asagi OVAs and I gotta say, while I'm still not a fan of how pervasive Murakami's loud directorial style is throughout the first one, I ended up liking it, and the latter parts weren't as bad as I remember them being. Animation aside, it's also the only Asagi OVA that stands on its own, narratively. It tells a complete story, and while I can take or leave some of the changes and tonal shifts it makes (I hate Sakura getting her arc dropped and doing fuck all in it, though), it doesn't totally butcher the original VN, which is nice.TA2 and TA3 aren't nearly as nice. There's too much story to tell in too short a time span and while it's bad in 2, it's abysmal in 3. They honestly shouldn't have even tired. It would've been much better had they just written brand new scenarios based around their favorite CGs. And what's with them only adapting the bad endings? Or pointlessly adding Asuka to 3? Or re-animating Sakura and Murasaki's TA3 scenes years later for Toraware no Niku Ningyou? Each new installment's worse than the last, it really sucks. While H-anime usually isn't anything to write home about, in my opinion, you'd think they'd pull out all the stops for an IP like Taimanin.
