Don't get shot.
>>
be jewish

You could ask that question to any battle.

The answer is simple; Move fast, Keep your head down, Find cover, co-ordinate with your squad to provide supressing fire.
>>
I think the mortality rate on Omaha for the first wave was 50%, with some sections of that beach having a near 90% casualty rate for the first wave.

Basically, you may as well just lay down and pretend to be dead until the show is over. Then just tell whoever finds you that you swallowed a lot of water and lost consciousness
>>
>>17267429
There was a coast guard dude who got washed off the boat and wound up on the beach with the first wave without a gun. He dug a hole with his helmet and waited for the shooting to stop.
>>
>>17267458
That's terrifying
>>
>>17267458
That's why there's so few surviving examples today.

Why? If they made it bulletproof your pussy ass would never come out.

I learned that from the WW2 museum in New Orleans.

Most veterans interviewed claim they just got lucky. They didn't do anything different from the ones that died. They just ran as fast of they could until they found cover somewhere. A lot who died got bogged down by the equipment they had to carry in order to clear the beach. Some vets who were there said the landing itself wasn't that hard. It was when they made their way into the head rows was when they started taking casualties.

I have useful skills so I wouldn't be drafted into infantry.

Luck.

By being the sinister politicians that caused the war while being at their palaces watching others to die.

Also, why would they do that and not flying in a parachute?

because you will die harder and faster

I know it must have been absolutely horrific to be in one of these and the people involved were caught up in a tragedy but it’s amusing to know that all the nations involved in the D-Day landings either:
A. Permitted alternative service on the grounds of conscious objection. The USA had the CCC amongst other huge programs. Britain basically had labour armies for COs and a good chunk of the actual conscripts were sent to work in mines instead of to the front as Britain had to revive its heavy industry that had declined over the decades leading up to the war.

OR

B. Were making use of small contingents of exiles after their home turf was overrun. Most often these were people who had gone out of their way to join the fight.

Basically you could make a good case arguing everyone on the allied side wanted to be there (even if a few COs slipped through the cracks as the system was imperfect), which from an ancap point of view makes it fucking hilarious that the allied casualty rates were so high. I’m English but to be honest I have more sympathy for the average axis soldier than the average allied soldier as the average axis citizen had literally no choice whereas an allied conscript could feasibly get out of fighting or even serving in the army altogether if he made enough of a fuss.

I imagine actually being there on the beach would be hell on earth.

This. America had an absolutely absurd officer to enlisted ratio and the infantry was a comparatively small branch of the army. People with high human capital generally got filtered into other parts of the army with the infantry getting what was left over.

The same is true of Britain to a lesser extent. Where they could the British avoided direct engagement and relied on their air force and navy as they had massive manpower problems throughout the war.
>>
>>17270141
I should also note that the American officer: enlisted ratio and the relatively small size of the infantry branch wasn’t just a corruption thing in my opinion. American institutions develop a lot more human capital so you can have people adopt more technical and specialised roles outside the infantry. For example, in American schools it’s not uncommon to have bands with several dozen members whereas in a comparative English or German school you might be luck for find more than a handful of students who play an instrument. Imagine this type of situation playing out across every American institution.

Ideally you want the people given the most dangerous assault to be highly motivated, so you don't have to force them into the breach.

In any case, while casualties were very bad on a couple beaches of the D Day operation, overall Allied casualties were actually very low in the western front of the ETO. The vast majority of allied casualties occurred on the Eastern Front.
>>
>>17267458
Strangely the British used the higgins but converted them into all steel. I wonder why the US with its vast recources decided to cheap out on this?

shoot the 'commissar' whose job is to send you to die.
you still die, but you take one of the real enemies with you and not some 16 year old Fritz

Do YOU believe the story about the video footage of this being “lost” and “destroyed”?

I think it was just so horrific they destroyed it on purpose
>>
>>17267359
from what I've read, most of the deaths were caused by mortar fire rather than mg42. there's not much you can do to avoid that. they just ran forward. those who were lucky survived
>>
>>17267359
Shoot FDR and his jewish cabinet.

D-Day wasn’t like SPR. It was more like a slow walk up a beach, halfway up some dirty bearded orientals opened up on you with two (yes, only two, not 50, not 5, only 2) Machine guns and 2 Flak 88s.
Snipers and riflemen picking off isolated stragglers.

Juden don’t want mutts to see how browns were on the bench but enjoyed the benefits of the war anyway.

More like how do you die
No huge bunker like in that one inaccurrate movie, massive number advantage, air superiority, the entire day to take the beach...

Other way around
I think it was nowhere near as bloody and epic as claimed

>How do you not die?

By mid-Europe US was perfecting it's human-capital heavy/low casualty military doctrine.

1) Do not die for your country, help the other guy die for HIS country
2) With air and armor, maybe some commandos, destroy all in your path
3) Army now proceeds en masse on said path bearing dollars, bribe money and pardons, and free hamburgers crushing residual resistance

BUT...

4) Where helping highly unstable democracies (Viet-nam, Afghanistan, Greece, East Europe...), goal is different: Stay in background as advisers/arms suppliers--if they win, great; but US interest is let libertarians do their thing educating population while Pentagon will try out weapons/sell or get get rid of old ones/look crazy to keep possible serious adversaries off-balance and wasting money/staying weak spending billions in expanding technically backwards military that will never threaten USA

5) When in doubt, picrel and kill commie for mommie

This makes the most sense

Even if you guessed where a mortar was going to hit 30 seconds prior, you aren’t going to be able to outrun it if that’s anywhere near you
