He draws few lines on a post-it paper, then a battalion of designers tries to make it look acceptable, him saying "Mmh, yes...Mmh, yes, yes...", then an army of engineers tries to figure how the fuck the thing could be built. He's just one of these "contemporary artists" who shit in a room and call it art, and because rich idle faggots manage to find it stunning the shit now costs a million dollar.

I think brutalism can be aestetich in isolation, as if one part of the city was made in a similar brutalist style. Looks like some dystopian future blade runner set.

Problem is when these buildings are put next to Beaux-Arts, Historicism, Victorian and other mid to late 1800's/early 1900's styles, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I wish we could have areas of the cities dedicated to one or two styles that compliment eachother.
The french did right by protect Paris downtown architecture. People come from far and wide just to see the city. Who the hell comes to London to see it as a city? It's a visual cesspool.

I wish architcts and city planners would take the existing architecture around the property into consideration when building a new building.

But I guess that's to much to ask. Either it's an eyesore on purpose or by incompotence.

More like Gehry is also a prisoner of his own success. His designs for Bilbao Guggenheim and the Disney Concert Hall cemented his status, made unique and innovative architecture, the buildings became iconic to their respective cities but also made him be associated with that style. When clients go to Gehry, they want a "Frank Gehry" building, which in their eyes is a Disney Hall or a Guggenheim.

The Disney Hall and Guggenheim are also cultural symbols, meaning they are attributed to bringing more culture and thus tourists to LA and Bilbao, so clients want a Gehry building for pretty much that status. Some other architects like Zaha Hadid or Morphosis are now brands. Those few recent buildings by Gehry that don't resemble his style end up confusing non-architects in terms of wondering why this or that Gehry building not resemble a Gehry building. Others like Jean Nouvel managed to break away from having a style early on in his career while others like Koolhaas in OMA is more about doing a design based on program, which leads to unique building solutions but not necessarily nice looking. Others like Libeskind and Himmelblau are hit and miss (mostly miss).

Not sure how much is saved by the design, but the metal protrusions are there to shade the windows from the direct sunlight in the summer, thus lowering the need for the air conditioning. There is no way of knowing how much power those wind generators make, especially if the building is in the center of a city, but they should provide enough power over the course of the year to make that buildingconsume less power for heating and cooling it than the one its adjoined to.

Not who you responded to but ive been to both cities and i thoroughly enjoyed paris while the trip to london was mediocre. The difference? Downtown paris was beautiful, downtown london is mostly mishmashed shit.

Question. Is it even possible for non-architects to influence the course of architecture in any appreciable way besides whining at city council meetings? There is so much shit I would like to see happen but I know it never will because I have no say in the matter.

london is great from street level (don't look at people), but that arab looking dildo needs to be demolished

Not only is modern architecture degenerate, but it's also extremely fragile and low quality from a physical perspective, in 50 years all of these buildings will be demolished

I love old architecture
And its not like I want people to not continue to make new architecture
Just dont make shit. Its that simple

Just because it is new and innovative doesnt mean its good

And facading buildings with literal colourful shit should be a death sentence. Like they should drag them out on the street and kill them

This is modern and looks cool .

In general, buildings are shaped by the zoning of particular city jurisdictions. Take Los Angeles for example, if you have a building taller than 150 feet, you need a helipad on the roof, which is why you have a flat skyline. Every now and then you have special permission to break the rules but you have to prove why your building needs special permissions.

How much money would I need to build a city, doesn't have to be big and just the initial foundation until people and money move. Is it doable for $50,000,000?
