Are the books worth anything? I found an unopened copy of Necronomicon in my brothers stuff from years ago. It's not the original but maybe from the 90s. still in plastic cover.

The books are worth some good money depending on the book. The Necronomicon is definitely worth money

I'll ask at Christmas if i can have. I've always saw it in his stuff and wondered wtf is this book. Until last week I was helping remodel that room, saw it again and decided to google HR Giger. Interesting stuff.

Moron. He suffered from lucid nightmares and got the inspiration for his work. He more or less invented the Biomech genre and there'd have been no Alien (1979) without him. I think his work is pure kino and always have.

Your post is edgy teenager bullshit. I don't even like Geiger's work and I can appreciate the quality. Compare this to the garbage celebrated by refined tastes like Abramovic's shit tier work, literally high school quality, and only loved by people out of touch with humanity. Geiger taps into the psyche in ways that people find simultaneously disturbing and attractive.

I grew up a few streets away from the house in which H.R. Giger lived since 1995, until his death. Thomas G. Warrior was affiliated with his family and took on some parts of a caretaker, ran errands etc.. I found it quite surreal when I saw Thomas at the grocery store, all dolled up with eyeliner, beanie and Frost shirt. In 2016 the city accepted an appeal to name a street after Giger which I thought was a nice gesture.

Pretty much, he's a classic hack. His work all has this two dimensional hieroglyphic quality which betrays his limitations as an artist even as detailed and involved a lot of his stuff is. Even people who aren't familiar with art in general would perceive this, although the notion might not be a conscious thought. If you've seen one Giger painting you've seen them all basically, a one trick pony with very little depth. There are plenty of myopic/stunted/repetitive artists like this in lowbrow art though, Alex Grey comes to mind. Giger's not the worst offender because he adds enough points of fascination in his edgelord paintings to keep it at least somewhat interesting to look at, but overall it isn't that great considering.

In the end it's just sort of "meh" and hasn't aged well at all. His entire legacy is more or less just the first Alien movie (which I admit worked and holds up well) but that's not much to come away with for an entire life's work.

4/10 artist

Brainlet tier criticism masquerading as wannabe art connoisseurship.
>His work all has this two dimensional hieroglyphic quality which betrays his limitations as an artist
Plenty of artists have had a more graphical approach (Klimt, Mucha, Beardsley and other Art Nouveau types, etc.) it's hardly a detraction of his work. If anything that type of approach to art requires a grasp of shape design and composition that is infinitely more skillful than just painting a realistic basket of fruit in in 3D space. Despite that Giger's art isn't even that flat, you can see he has decent grasp on form (well, you can't see because you don't know what you're talking about, but you get the point).
>If you've seen one Giger painting you've seen them all basically, a one trick pony with very little depth
Another one of those thin criticisms thrown around by retards. You could use this to criticize almost any artist that has ever lived. Virtually all artists have a style and subject they stick throughout their entire career. Giger isn't even a big offender in that regard. There's artists of more renown that painted nothing put portraits in three quarter view.

If you're gonna be a contrarian retard at least try to be a more sophisticated one.
>>
>>4085786
Sorry, but none of what you wrote is even a remotely valid rebuttal of my criticism. His renderings are shallow & flat and he never produced any paintings where this wasn't the case. So no, he had no fundamental grasp of how to render convincing 3 dimensional shapes which absolutely a limitation that detracts from his art. You're just being intellectually dishonest to claim otherwise and you and I both know it. But hilariously you yourself provided evidence of your actual perception of his art:
>than just painting a realistic basket of fruit in in 3D space
You tried your best but you weren't quite smart enough to keep yourself from accidentally admitting that in your view he doesn't really have a grasp on 3 dimensional form at all, if he did you wouldn't have had to admit his work is objectively different than a "realistic" painting of fruit in a "3D space". In other words technically you view his compositions as not having either of these qualities, which is correct. You even said it has a flat two dimensional quality:
>Giger's art isn't even that flat
See? So it is kinda flat, right? Your words, not mine. Turns out we were in agreement all along and you posted a wall of seethe for no reason at all ;^)

And as much as I hate to point it out, you didn't actually disagree with me about his work being cookie cutter either. Criticizing art for being repetitive and monotonous beyond subject & style is completely valid, despite your simple minded objection. Especially in a case like this where it's very true and easily observed. But feel free to prove me wrong though, if there was any variation in Giger's formulaic art I'd love to see it.

> If you've seen one Giger painting you've seen them all basically

Basically? So because YOU fail to see little more in his work you think that applies to everyone? Well basically what you are saying here is that "Because I am dumb, so is the artist".

>edgelord

Giger INVENTED this shit, nobody in the world painted like he could and yet to this day nobody has replicated it with as much acclaim.

Then there is your need to constantly ad hominem attack a reply n every single sentence. Your arguments have no weight when you do this.

> if there was any variation in Giger's formulaic art I'd love to see it.

What the fuck do you want? Want to see him redesign the batmobile? That's pretty different. How about design an entire bar? That's pretty out of left field.

The subject matter is so immature and singularly simpleminded it becomes amazing but not in a good way at all. How any adult looks at his stuff and doesn't give a condecending snicker before forgetting it exists again because it's so unbelievably fucking stupid is beyond me, it's hard to believe this is what a grown man spent his life doing with his time. Whenever I come across a Giger painting I always imagine it's what Bevis & Butthead would buy to decorate their basement wall with next to a Korn poster
>uh huhhuh huh huh
>heh heh heh heh
>yea giger is cool ah huh huh huhhuh
>yea there's a dick heh heh heh
>uh huh huh huhhuh i see a nipple
>heh heh heh SATAN hehhehheh

I mean, Goddamn dude. Grow the fuck up.
