Post your current drawing here and provide helpful criticism and advice to others!

This is not a thread to discuss your autism, the rest of the board is for that.

Please make sure your posted image is clear, DOWNSIZED TO AROUND 1000 PIXELS WIDE, ROTATED TO THE CORRECT ORIENTATION, and that any unused space is cropped.
If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one and then kill yourself.

Very cute. Only thing that sticks out to me is the size of the feet on the middle and right characters. Seems off to have hand and feet the same size but maybe I'm just not enough of a furry.

The collars in the second image look kinky. Intentional?
>>
>>2812607
it's quite nice, but your fundies are weaak man.
look at >>2812600, how good his fundies are, and try to think how good it would look that way.
rendering is not that good either, just look at the sword texture (is it supposed to be plastic?) and the blurry hands (I know it's supposed to be fur, but it's not working and essentially looks rushed)
keep it up man! it's a crit to help.

I'm aware that the anatomy is abnormal. Just wondered what specifically bothered you. My intention was that the lower arm is foreshortened with an angle towards the viewer. I admit its badly done, because it doesn't get the point across. Other than that I didn't really go for pristine anatomy. Thanks for the feedback though, it helps. Hope I don't trigger you to much anon.

it's kind of a joke, I'm not raging behind my keyboard. besides I really took a raping not so long ago, so now I don't care so much about anons.

>Just wondered what specifically bothered you.
bad anatomy bothers me, so everything

>My intention was that the lower arm is foreshortened with an angle towards the viewer.
I get it, but it would be easier to draw and read better if you changed the position. but if you want to go with it anyway, you really have to draw a cylinder cut in squares and pay attention to proportionate measurements.

These are really nice designs, particularly your full character ones are spot on. The thing I notice that could be improved was the construction of the faces in side views. They are a bit weak imo when they are not frontal views. Like the one on the bottom left. But all in all these are really great designs.

I think >>2812436 meant the tangents your edges make. The red lines point out the major tangents in your drawing. The rose and coat are aligned together, tangents bushes objects back in space making the rose part of the cape and not in front of the cape. Other than that, I found the shape of the horns unappealing with unclear forms, are they pointing forwards or backwards?
>>
>>2812638
You're not being specific on what you want help with. Don't outsource your work to other anons.
>>

>>

I thought that being vague would help anons find some problems with the piece that I might be missing. Forgive me.
I know my perspective needs work, along with my lines...
>>
>>2812664
oh, he ment tangents. I see. Your paintover is really appealing with the removal of tangents and the symentrical horns with normal anatomy. Eitherway, the horns where ment to go slightly forwards but at the root they go backwards. Thanks alot man, I appreciate the constructive critizism.

First of the year for me and first thing I've drawn in a long time. This was supposed to be a quick sketch but I accidentally took it a bit further. not much of anything it's rather nice, but you made the lips big, which is fine, but her actual mouth, like the opening, is placed too low.

i morphed this with my mouse so excuse it being kinda sloppy but this would look a little more natural. there's a thousand solutions to this problem.
>>
>>2813182

This is good but I can see what the main problem is right away: you're skipping to the color part too early. You nailed the drawing for the face and that looks great (little lopsided desu, try flipping it and doing some construction lines on a transparent layer), but you rushe the drawing on some parts like her hands (hiding it in the hair isn't working) and her dress below her boobs. This technique where you get the lines right and then paint underneath them only works if you really put in the time on the lines first, otherwise it's starts looking blobby and you can't figure out how to proceed, which I think is what you're running up against here.

Like it tho
>>
>>2812742

Best crit I can think of is to mass your shadows. You don't want blotchy shadow blobs all over the place; all your shadows should merge into a few big shadow shapes, and try to control your composition with those. You're painting your lights arbitrarily right now, with no clear decision on where the light source is. You REALLY need some harder cast-shadows, too - all of your shadows have blurry edges right now, which makes the whole piece feel mushy and vague.

Good shit overall (as usual). Fun design, great lines, and my god that pink reflected light. M'm m'm.

Mind the planted leg: both the foot and ankle appear a bit larger/thicker than their opposite despite being further away from the viewer-the calf also appears marginally shorter.

The colors and brushwork are top notch though perhaps a bit utilitarian in some areas. Consider filling in the rest of that shadow shape where her heel overlaps the contour of her shin and blending out or otherwise reworking some of those errant brush strokes by her gooch. While there is similar 'spackling' elsewhere in the piece those particular strokes kind of stick out as looking more like an afterthought than some of the others.

Anyway, I'm going to go think long and hard about this beautifully realized piece of art while I proceed to choke the shit out of myself so; until next time.

it was in another entire level.
it was by david finch.
seeing how fast he got the thing down, and without any helping lines of construction was incredible.

at the same time I now know that it's bad to see that when you're young and impressionable, because it seems magical (since there's no construction!) while it's mostly muscle memory.

Do you think it's possible for a newb to catch up on that muscle memory?
Or surpassing it by learning proper construction/perspective etc?
I get inspired by people that can draw well but also get discouraged. "I'll never be this good anyway, why bother" and I only draw for fun, not for "making it".
I *know* I shouldn't care about other people's skill but I find it hard not to do that
Maybe I'm just a jealous piece of shit
>>
Did this one the other day, what do you think?
>>
>>2814405
I really started drawing at 25, so I say yes.
you have much more maturity and intelligence to get things down intellectually much more quickly.

The problem is that most artists never theorize anything, so they can't teach anything besides "just watch me do and do the same"

So you're much better off learning stuff that does have some good learning material, i.e. perspective, anatomy and color theory.
Actual rendering stuff and specificities, you need muscle memory, but better analytic abilities help.

Only a relatively quick drawing ~1 hour, but I can feel how I'm getting better. Even if there are some notable flaws (especially arms and legs).

No?
Why?, ask yourself before completing a piece.

If you still have prblems trying to crack down why, then I'll tell you:
It's boring. There is no dynamism (aka motion), the guy is just kind of there looking bored. then there is some dynamic perspective but seems like if the piece just gave up half-way into applying it.

It doesn't help that the line art is flat too, there is no shading at all.

Not who you replied to, but here are some OPINIONS

First: Flip square 4 and 5 horizontally. Think about how someone would read the pages (left > right), so now it looks as if the dudes are going back and not forwards. It feels wonky.
Second: I would want you to go more extreme in some way. Either have a more rugged landscape (especially for the close ups). Or by doing the exact opposite and clean the image up like in the edit. Shouldn't the mountain have snow on it either way?

did more to the background on this. it was too chromatic and the values were too in the middle across the whole background. Idk if someone gave me that crit already, but i changed it so hey. I think compositionally the objects are too low on the canvas and too small. How they are arranged is fine but I should've condensed the still life and made it bigger on the canvas.
>>
>>2815449
That bread looks tasty, yo.

But you've got a outline around the table/stuff and background. Is that intentional? Because it ruins some of the depth.
>>
>>2815456
thats just me not wanting to ruin the edges of what I already have so I didn't brush too close to the objects and table. I always do the background last which is probably a bad idea.
>>
>>2815464
>probably a bad idea
Probably, yeah.

And the more I look at your piece, the more I find the right side lacking in content. The left side has the table's edge and the cloth all wrinkled up. But the right side just has this flat and boring area right above the signature.

I'd add something there if I were you.
>>
>>2815470
>I'd add something there if I were you.

Yeah, gotta say, these designs are like bottom of barrel storage house level boring. You could literally do anything and they'd look better. At the very least give them realistic and cool looking wings. Study some bat wings and make that shit huge and bat-like. you're retarded if you listen to /ic/'s advice on pricing, most people here are completely ignorant.
your pricing should be based on difficulty time and material, then on your client history.
another thing: it doesn't matter if he's a friend. You don't want to rip off your friend right? But you don't want your friends to rip you off either. So a friend price is a fair price. And a fair price is what you should be charging always anyway.
So yeah, desu you could slash the price inthat case, but only if/because it took you less time than planned.

btw, >>2815902 is pretty good but once again you should have use a greater range of values, especially if it's a cover! that value range would be good for an inset, where you have text besides and you want a good illustration but that doesn't pop out too much.

You are trashing on perhaps THE most influential comic book artist who has ever lived. His contribution to the medium, especially adventure comics, makes artists like Eisner and Kirby look like second hand hacks. His art style is extremely distinguishable, well made and intelligent, not to mention that he is a storytelling genius.

He is a European treasure, and you are a uncultured faggot.
>>
>>2815995
Not this anon, but Hergé is kinda a scam. Most of his stories weren't written by him and he paid the writers and some others draftsmen to not have to mention their names on the cover or inside. Furthermore, he was a Nazi sympathizer.
But I won't deny most of what you wrote and that he had a tremendous influence on Comics.

okay so usually when doing this stuff i draw it out in greyscale.
if you have the object lasso'd into it's own layer or what ever, hit ctrl+B to bring up the cololor balance and tweak it to your liking. in the case a reddish orange.

next thing you want to do is set your brush mode to overlay. set the opacity low and grab a soft round brush cause you'll be airbrushing over the object. use a larger brush for a smoother gradient.

arm on left is with the two color below it and same with the arm on the right.
additionally once you get one you like you can brin gup ctrl+U and get some variations and use the same airbrushing effect above to get them to your liking.

A smol skull, feel free to roast me.
Do you guys all use the loomis head?
My problem with it is that the sphere doesn't represent any real mass, the cranium is much smaller and in the back.
Also I use the Hale measuring system, so it's difficult for me to guess where and how big is the sphere supposed to be.

That's an interesting approach, thanks anon.

Is there any way to make pic related faster? it's just so time consuming this way. is there a tool/3d modeling software to do it faster and just trace it?
>>
>>2817597
yeah. but you still need an intuition for perspective for fine details or coming up with quick concepts, otherwise you might as well ditch drawing and do 3d modelling. DESU perspective is a lot quicker than modelling in 3d, it can take a month to make a highres model vs a couple hours for a painting.
>>
>>2817597
google sketch up. or pretty much any 3d program

that shouldn't be time consuming. Just practice it enough until you know what you're doing. It looks like just a couple steps to me

I'm sure he just internalised construction so well that he doesn't need to put it to paper anymore.
A lot of artists become that way after a while.

Another skull. Guys, this is so much fun, could we have like an event where everyone draws skulls and deconstructs them in different ways?
Sinix mentions how important that shit is for portrait drawing and who knows, maybe we'd come up with alternatives to the Loomis Head.

>>2817597
You could use sketch-up or something, but I really recommend this exercise. After you've done it 10, 20 times, you'll become very accurate at guessing it.
Invaluable for freehand perspective sketching.

>>2817620
>someone put forth this much effort just to help me improve
Damn that feels nice.
Thanks anon, you made it look like a human creature. The cranial shape still bugs me tho.
>>
>>2815619
the neck is completely stiff even though he's being strangled hard. It wouldn't hurt to exaggerate the proportions of the man being strangled a bit to add more energy to the image. The style looks perfect for exaggeration
>>
>>2815955
That painting is so bloody overdone it hurts. It's beautifully done don't get me wrong but there's no common theme amongst the elements and it's an overdone design.

What you're really saying is that she's using you to help her on *her* project for free, right?
Looking pretty good though. Very nice use of atmospheric perspective and on making the snow feel dynamic.

>>2817921
>I think I've got to go back and do a repaint
If she suggested this to you in any way, and you aren't getting the lions share of the profit if you ever plan on selling it on Steam (I assume you're doing a vn) you're getting ripped off.
>>
>>2817928
I'm not getting ripped off, it's because we're both on a illustration course and we got put together for a collaberative week long assignment. I think the tutor put us together because we are both good at our own thing but we're both very different.

Either way, back to work and thank you for the response.
>>
>>2817934
No problem. If you aren't already you should try doing commissions. You're at the level where it could earn you some decent extra money for sure.

Your head is to small compared to the body. Good values though
>>
>>2813734
The face has poor construction. Look at the chin in relation to the lips, it looks like her mouth is off to the side.

The nose looks like it has only one nostril and the eyes look like generic almond shapes with no actual anatomy.

The biggest issue with this image is the lack of construction and anatomy especially with the eyes, nose and chin.

Otherwise, it's an interesting idea. She looks like a harlequin or a woman at a french carnival. and I love those
