eyes need some work done they are very tilted and one on right looks like its about to pop out.
also why the weird shading on the nose but nowhere else on the face? lots of other things wrong as well but those are very glaring.

Here are some simple gestures/poses of Tracer from Overwatch. I want to take this into the computer and do proper linework and color, but I want to know what you guys think of the gestures/poses I’ve laid out. Are they successful? Loose and lithe enough for the character of Tracer? I’m going for a kind of angular but curvy look, exaggerated too.
>>
>>
>>3516031
you are going to need to refine a whole lot from these before lineing them. but as gestures they work i suppose,
try to use less lines next time .

trying to draw my gf for a suprise, anyone has any feedback?

dunno what im gonna do with the hair. never really painted hair before so idk if I should leave it or not.
>>

the hair looks like clay not hair
if youre basing this on a photo you should probably put a wash over the backdrop that has the general value of the background of the photo

A few ways to improve this. Make the handle of the hammer much thicker, right now it looks like a toy in his hands and the ratio between the head/handle is way off, that would break with one swing.

fix the posture to make it look like there's effort in holding the hammer. it looks light for him when it probably shouldn't be. Do that by fixinf the position of his right arm (his right) and also by fixing the grips on the handle.

your values aren't right they get way too dark for the parts youre referencing. even then a low definition webcam ref with no distinct key light is harder to push 3 dimensionality. personally i would have used the picture in the middle to reference my colors because its much harder to fuck up warm colors on skin.

anyway another reason why you feel it looks flat is because of the darkness of your features like the mouth and the eyes when as you can see in the "pure value" black and white versions theyre much less contrasted and much lighter. value and color exist in relation to other values and colors. if you soften those things to be more accurate i think it will look much more pleasing
>>
>>3517550
Anon you're an angel <3
Thank you so much. I guess I got carried away with the color saturation and how dark my values were in a poor attempt to make the image better. I'll try to fix the colors on the mouth and overall features like you suggested.

if you fix the edges on the border of the face I think you got yourself a very nice painting. One other minor thing is the hairline is too presented. Ohterwise very good job on the shading and colouring.

>>3517571

Thank you, You all have been very helpful !!
When you say fix the borders of the face you mean making it a hard edge?
I'll be sure to fix the hairline issue, it was there on the sketchy phase of the image and i had forgotten about it until you pointed out xD

Even though it's not supposed to be realistic I think the eyes are a little too big. I mean they are almost touching, you should always keep in mind their distance. Even in anime, the rule is the same. Also, the hair looks a bit too much. Maybe you should also try a simpler style shading focusing on using mostly a hard brush, it would make your image more pleasing and fitting to the style you're pursuing.
>>
>>3517623

I can see what you mean and have adjusted accordingly but cant post it right now.
I get the shading feedback, and its honest, i just like it more this way
Thanks for the feedback!
>>
>>3517569

Is doing this useful?

I got told a while ago by someone when I posted my drawing here to use Drawabox. So I started, and... holy shit. I don't think I've had less fun drawing in my life. It really demotivated me because drawing is definitely something I want to get better at, but this made it seem like a chore, and I wasn't enjoying it.

I know I sound like a babby but if my drive to draw was once "hell yeah even if I'm shit let's do this" to "fucking hell I don't want to do this again" then I don't think it's a good exercise for me to do. I wanted to focus on drawing bodies and proportions first, and of course, for that I need to know my anatomy. I've taken to drawing over statues to identify the muscle groups and then trying to recreate them myself. My question is - is this USEFUL?

I don't want to fool myself into thinking I'm doing something productive when I'm actually not, you know? Will this actually help me improve my understanding of anatomy, or is it just a meaningless filler-exercise that doesn't actually do anything? I feel like it could help, but at the same time,
>>
>>3519683
Sigh. I'm an idiot.

At the same time, I just feel... stuck. Stuck in a rut and there are so many things to do but I honestly don't know where to fucking start. Drawabox really killed my drive. How can I get better without sacrificing the enjoyment I have for drawing? Is this even possible?

What's wrong with draw a box? Are the line exercise tedious? is every exercise tedious?

Keep in mind that you don't need to do all those exercises exactly as they appear.

There is a book, Dynamic bible by Peter Han. The book contains small exercises for drawing but the exercises are just warm ups, NOT lengthy sessions.

The reason I mentioned him is because Peter Han taught the draw a box guy. They use the same techniques.

The book should be on the book thread. If not, try searching the archives on Yuki.la

The entire point of draw a box is to start thinking in 3 dimensions when you draw THAT'S IT.

You need to draw from life and things you like, learn about design and how to best represent objects. You don't need to be laser point accurate, but you DO need to be convincing

Also no draw a box won't improve your anatomy and the anatomy section was taken down by the Uncomfortable because he said it wasn't good enough

The exercise teach you to draw with fluidity and confidence and how to break objects down into basic shapes
