Well, I would look at making the planet and moon have better lighting rather than looking flat. I can see you did a highlight on the top, but I can't really tell if there is a shadow on the planet or if that is just another band on it.

How do I do soft/diffuse lighting without a gradient tool or something similar?
Also, are there any guides for color or shading or palettes in general? Everything I've been able to find seems like you need to have taken a few years of a traditional art class to even comprehend it.

I'm terrible at this, but I think trying to define certain parts of the boar helps a lot. I tried to define belly and neck primarily to try to add depth to it, and the top of the back as lighter because counter-shading. Your colors just seemed kind of random.

I think the face looks fine at the size you provided, but scaled properly is very indistinct.
Other than that I can't say much because it's extremely stylized and in a style I personally don't like, but that's completely opinion based.

Thanks, I didn't really pay much attention to the BG, was mostly focused on the figure, it's meant to be sky and clouds.

Yeah tried not to talk much about the style stuff because it's not helpful. The scales thing I mean looking at it where one pixel is one pixel, IIRC you had like a ~7x scale, and things can look very different. I think the updated face looks way better though.

Not him but the OP has some good stuff. I suggest pixel pete and mortmort on youtube. They're both game pixel artists so they deal less with individual characters and more on stuff like props and tilesets, but all of it is tranferrable. I dunno of the OP has the miniboss pixel art tutorials, but those are great too

Looks good to me honestly. If you don't have riDDiculous proportions it's pretty hard. Your highlighting does the job well I think. If animated a minor bounce and the fact that they'd be consistently highlighted would probably help emphasize them more, but for a still it's harder in my experience.
Also is the yellow pixel behind the left knee purposeful? Looks weird.

Not exactly a pixel art question, sorry. Does anyone know gamedev api/platform/engine that is somewhat similar to flash in animation functional? I wanted to move from it for a long time, but I can't find anything that quite as easy and powerful for 2D animation (maybe aside from unity, but it seems like massive overkill for a shitty pixel h-game). Adobe will kill flash in a month and I don't want to fixate on a dead platform forever.
