Layers, layers and more layers until you can't see sharps anymore. No neighboring pixels should be the same color.

Look at work by Ivan Seal. He did the album art for The Caretaker albums. They are meant to auditorily illustrate how a person progresses through stages of dementia. As the albums progress, the accompanying art gets further distorted until they have almost no resemblance to anything people recognize, yet still have elements of organic and human-made shapes, motifs, and visual themes. He still uses fundamentals despite drawing nothing that can be fully referenced: he still clearly defines his lighting scenario, he has good value control, he models forms using that value control, and he demonstrates understanding of contrast and composition. It's a good place to start if you're idea mining. There's other artists that can do this, but not quite in the way that Seal captures objects that not only feel organic and lifelike, but also clearly don't exist
>>
>>5258890
Who are those other artists? Looking for less abstract versions of this art. Like something with some form of reason to exist or functionality.

Pro Artist here.

First step: Stop being a faggot

Second step: Thank me later

I mean, there's early surrealist Dali. Look at his work and find contemporaries. I can't really help you when you contradict yourself in your thread, senpai.
>What is the right way to approach shading for abstract/fantastic drawings of non existent things, so that it looks more realistic?
>Looking for less abstract versions of this art. Like something with some form of reason to exist or functionality.
Like, what do you want? Are you trying to continue going in the direction of the stuff you're currently drawing and posting? You're still going to have to learn perspective, rendering, and light characteristics to achieve the kind of effect you're likely looking for. Venturing into the surreal comes from knowing the rules first and warping them to surprise people and their expectations.
>>
>>5260795
I meant it more, less abstract but still abstract.

I think his posts are a good statement on the contemporary state of the actual art scene, not the internet circlejerk consisting mainly porn addicted graphic designers, and how the scene translates to modern digital era where we can actually perceive this kinds of expressionistic works as pretentious dogshit.

You need to have forms that are visible. You need to have a light source that is well defined. You need to add texture. You need to vary the edges. Then you will have an abstract painting that feels real.
>>
>>5292777
Why do you "need" anything for an effective abstract painting, and why must it be "real" when the point is not to represent reality?

>>5294231

The only braindead idiot is you for getting so angry over someone else's drawings instead of just focusing on your own art.
If you seriously let things like this affect you that much then just don't bother with this hobby and kill yourself.
