Post a detail that fascinates you from a drawing from your inspiration folder, the more specific the better

I love how the right buttock on the third figure here conveys the gesture and pressure on the right leg, it does a great job at feeling tense beyond just tilting the hip box, I keep thinking back to it during my work and it drives me to look for opportunities to twist, pinch, compress etc body masses in simple illustrative ways

Probably going to get slapped for coomposting and it's sorta niche but the coloring/rendering on the feet and its indents(dont know what to call them) are really ridiculously good here. Most of the time when I see feet they're almost drawn flat with 2 lines near the top and that's your lot.

agree with this, i don't think he minmaxes his strokes at all. it's impressionistic but still way more brush strokes than necessary for a lot of places in the water. minmaxing would be using bigger brushes
>>
>>5271879
I enjoy his "shapyness" in the body rendering. Its not just gradient flat with a dropped shadow and some ambient occlussion here and there. Flesh looks ripply.

Also fortunate he established the kind of rough/sketchy style as a final expectation. Cuts the time at least in half what it would take to make it pristine clean.

When people say "don't shade with black", they mean don't render / paint with black. As in, when you paint with a pen pressure brush and mix black on the canvas with another color in order to make that color darker. That's what you shouldn't do. Using pure black for inking, backgrounds and flats is totally fine. How is this the first artist you've seen who does this? I mean, it's super common in comic book art in general and people post artists like Imaishi and Mike Mignola all the time on /ic/.
>>
>>5271906
>>5271927
I think anons taught you wrong on purpose, as a joke. Unless youre joking. Theres a way of learning to understand color by avoiding using pure black because theres generally no pure black in nature and the easiest point of entry into art is through black and white or monochrome tools like pencil or pen which forms bad habits and misunderstanding what darkness is. Its okay to shade black because thats the comic book style based around the tools available.

wonderful stuff.

I could instantly tell, that the artist was spanish, but his art has more energy than many of his fellow classic comic book artists. for some reasons, many spanish comic book artists stage their scenes too rigidly. not this one.

I particularly love this Richard Corben page, because of the mesmerizing liquid colours, the sense of scale and the little extended finger in the 2nd panel.
>>
>>5272270
This design is ridiculous. Her belt is far too large to stay on even just walking it would fall off. The enormous construct glasses why? The giant construct cape with random ropes on it for what purpose? The gloves have some sort of armored knuckles...Green Lanterns don't typically fight with fists since they create constructs. There's no design to the hair, its just a big mass sitting on her head.

These are terrible feet. They look uncanny and more like an old mans feet. Very wide, but also short in length like a cavemans feet. The toes are misshapen and look more like stubby fingers than toes. The hand looks ok at first, but then you notice how the fingers aren't in perspective and how they just sort of jut off to the side of the palm rather than coming out and curling down. Some references would have helped this artist alot.

Sure, but in his case everything is equally rough, it varies by 10% difference between things that are the focus and things that are outside of the focus, like the ends of the hair, the values aren't exactly tuned, so parts look flat. Some lines that are in focus are a bit too sketchy. In general i'd call his style "unfinished" or "sketchy" , not as a means to insult, but the general feel of it. Much like NamanikuATK tends to have finished pieces that are very rough. But since the general appeal and the idea is conveyed still, that doesn't matter.

I like the way they've anatomically geometricized the torso and arms, reminds me of bridgeman. it's not necessarily a unique shorthand but it's exaggerated very nicely. I wish this artist did less coomer art, I'm not into porn (I hate when that happens)

>I remember being told by /ic/ to never shade with black

that's more of a painting rule, because pure black is very cold, and shadows that are too cold will make your colors look 'muddy' and dead. using black for shadows in more graphic work like your pic is fine, because you're not trying to simulate how light works.

>shading with pure black
Not to be technical, anon, but that's ink work. There's no shading. It's core shadow and outline merging into single, graphic space with flat colors in the areas of light and interest, and very soft, airbrushed color accents for blush on the faces. You're misrepresenting what is very much still valid and important advice, especially in painting, where you have to represent more than 2-3 values and a wider range of color.
