I'm rather pleased with how this week's pages came out. Does anyone know the general theory on the color relationship between trimmings and bas structures when you're drawing/coloring architecture? For example, if a pillar has some adorning trim or edges, should the edges be lighter/darker than the base pillar?

it depends completely on how the light is hitting it. Use reference/make studies from real life.

>>
>>5407117
Steal from obscure sources and change it up enough that you have plausible deniability.
>>
>>5407117
actually, since i mostly do short stories, I start with the story first. Then if I fall in love with the character I created, then I save that character for a series I plan to do in the future.

So I kinda just "find" my character as they go through their lives. The most important part of a character is what they want. Once you figure that out, tacking on personality traits and appearances is easy

>How do you guys go about character creation ?

The general idea/plot for the story comes first, then I think about the character. Appearance, name, personality traits and all... I think deciding the profile of the character is the most important thing when creating it. The he will be developed together with the story.

Hey, if any of you draw your pages physically, I'm wondering what size paper you use. I'm about to start pencilling a short comic that I'll eventually scan in at probably an average US comic size but I'm not sure if drawing at A4 is too small.
>>
>>5410307
Your average american comic book is drawn on 11 inches x 17 inches paper and then scaled down digitally. If you're going to use international-size paper the closest sizes are A3 and B3.
>>
>>5410307
it is small. youll have trouble following along with recommended size brushes for inking and such.
but ive been drawing at a4 for so long i find it very hard to adjust to the larger sheet. i dont have the room to casually sit with it in a clipboard either. unless i set it up on my easel.

Don't worry about demographics yet. Just make what you want to make and try to be excellent. I already like your ideas and the drawing is pretty good for a sketch. I suggest you look into the work of Rene Laloux. He had some cool movies that remind me of yours, particularly Fantastic Planet and Time Masters. See if you get inspiration from him. China Mieville is a writer who based lots of his monsters off DnD, so you're not wrong for making a world with /tg/ in mind.

To quote Mieville:
>Probably one of the most enduring influences on me was a childhood playing RPGs: Dungeons and Dragons [D&D] and others. I’ve not played for sixteen years and have absolutely no intention of starting again, but I still buy and read the manuals occasionally. There were two things about them that particularly influenced me. One was the mania for cataloguing the fantastic: if you play them for any length of time, you get to know pretty much all the mythological beasts of all pantheons out there, along with a fair bit of the theology. I still love all that—I collect fantastic bestiaries, and one of the main spurs to write a secondary-world fantasy was to invent a bunch of monsters, half of which I’m sure I’ll never be able to fit into any books.
>The other, more nebulous, but very strong influence of RPGs was the weird fetish for systematization, the way everything is reduced to “game stats.” If you take something like Cthulhu in Lovecraft, for example, it is completely incomprehensible and beyond all human categorization. But in the game Call of Cthulhu, you see Cthulhu’s “strength,” “dexterity,” and so on, carefully expressed numerically. There’s something superheroically banalifying about that approach to the fantastic. On one level it misses the point entirely, but I must admit it appeals to me in its application of some weirdly misplaced rigor onto the fantastic: it’s a kind of exaggeratedly precise approach to secondary world creation.

Hi /co/ webcomic general
The Banshee Vale Oi volume 2 tankobon arrived last night. It came out pretty good, is 216 pages and contains Banshee Vale Calling and THE BANSHEE VALE HORROR SHOW-2 pure chapters of bardic misery and suffering.

Next plan is to make a new cover for volume 1 and a new 4-6 page intro, then putting the first 5 chapters of Oi+Solstice special= Volume 1. For the cover, i'm going to try to step my art up and make it sick like demon slayer.

I used to post this somewhat regularly, when I have a few more new pages i will create a cowboy thread in an attempt to raise the dead.

I'll keep the bubbles for now, only until I decide exactly how I want them. I've gone through 200 pages twice already, I'm not eager to do it a third time until then. It's all a first draft anyway.

I have issues focusing my ideas into coherent stories. Coming up with wild concepts/characters/powers is naturally to me, but it's being able to harness that into something that makes sense for an audience. Never put out a project before, so I think part of that is the anxiety of fucking up. Any tips for a newbie?

Is 800px really a must on Webtoon? The pictures at that size, in CSP, look downright deplorable.
Can't I do it on a larger paper size as long as I keep to 300 dpi?
I draw the pictures at 600 dpi in CSP then I downscale it to 800px by 1200px at 300 dpi and it always looks bad. Blurry as hell.
>>
>>5431504
It's lovely, hopefully the inking will make it less muddy

I'm not sure if CSP has the option, but make sure you're using the right resample method. If you want to downsize images in PS, you should be using the "Bicubic Sharp" setting for resampling.

I don't think there's enough of a demand for this general. I'll keep bumping but I think the manga general covers everything. We welcome western comics too.
>>
>>5447048
I don't know why people don't just use the webcomic general on /co/ that's been around for years and years. Its like, this thread is trying to draw people from there and /mmg/, so its sapping people from both places, and thinning the crowd for all three in the process.
>>
>>5447119
>don't know why people don't just use the webcomic general on /co/ that's been around f

It's filled with retards that don't know what they're talking about. Also it's all autism and drama. Oh, and no porn.
>>
>>5447629
Was there some sort of falling-out that caused people to come here or something
>>
>>5449838
No idea. I used to post regularly in the /co/ threads but that was probably three or four years ago.

There was a thread like this on /ic/ maybe... three weeks ago? Only it was much more active and people were posting a lot of work and there was a much better vibe. This one isn't remotely the same atmosphere.

I really like jorge stuff, in my opnion he is toe to toe with murata if not for the dynamism but people never comment on that, but he does deliver on time. They kinda ruin his art a bit by adding colors, but his stuff is really good.

He is also an absolute chad, the ideal artist really, I really admire him, hope to be like him one day.

I used to do restorations of old Magnus comics, translate and edit the covers etc.
The art is not as impressive as some of the comic book art nowadays but it's been consistent throughout the years and still displays great understanding of fundamentals.
People need to take notes

Books and video courses. But I mainly read French comics to get inspired (Joann Sfar ilu)

>Bonus Q: why don’t you post your work?

Pic related is my work

>Personal Q: Why do you draw?

I started to draw to do a comic someday. And the someday is now.

And ah. Here's my carrd with all of my socials + link to my WordPress blog (WIP) where I'll publish my work. Most of my socials are dead except my Twitter. I also consider doing an Instagram soon and delete my deviantart since it's a dead platform..
