So I've successfully made myself draw every day for nearly a week using porn as a motviator
I want to start drawing on a schedule so I can get more work done, but I'm scared it's going to make me dread drawing again and feel like I HAVE to draw instead of WANTING to draw like the last time I did DAD
how should I go about transitioning from making myself draw when I'm horny to making myself draw for a set amount of hours every time

im also just starting so take with a grain of salt, but this probably isn't the worst method if you're working digitally. but it's prob best to draw over it so it doesn't have that true mirror look.
also if you're not going for a wall-eyed look, move the iris/pupil to match the direction the other eye is looking.

What skills did you learn and practice during that day?
It just looks like you added a bit more detail while still committing the same fundamental mistakes, and now you're the committing the mistake of reinforcing bad habits when drawing by building detail on top of fundamentally flawed bases.
You're drawing flat as fuck which means it's safe to say you didn't bother learning perspective and form, you are scribbling around instead of drawing with intent, hoping that through trial and error you'll come to something barely acceptable.
You can either realize that you don't know shit and learn what you're missing or you can just cope by turning bad habits into your comfort zone which is an easy trap to fall into.

nice gestures. The head drawing could use a lot of work, your proportions are all over the place and needs major work. Look at the forehead her brow area is too big, the ear needs to be lowered (it should be around the brow and bottom of the nose), the right eye need to be further apart from the other, and the neck is very thick compare the size of the head you have is right in the gesture drawings.

I've been thinking about this, and I don't see how it could actually work this way. This theory only explains perceived lack of skill if we take it as given that artists only look at the works they're drawing right now, and immediately trash everything they complete. Wouldn't most people in the "I can't draw" stage end up looking at their older works at some point, and realize that they were never good?
>>
>>5444361
>>5444437
I gave up the heads practice.when I realized that it doesn't help me create concept art or characters. I think it assumes that we lay the body out like a road map with no perspective, the other anon added a perspective point on the hips area. Turning it into a piece of concept. It's good practice for learning don't get me wrong. Maybe it's just me but I find it much easier to just memorize anatomy and draw from imagination. Listing the bones muscles in my head.

in another phase skill is stagnating but "how much hopeless shit I am" conviction is increasing.

post the ref. When starting to draw people it is better to simplify the drawing other wise you spend too much too on needless details. As for the drawing itself you got the basic proportions of the head right, the eye placement could be better remember around where the nostril is place is where the edge of the eye start. The length of the mouth is about the same as the length of the two pupil.

how do I enjoy drawing again? I think about drawing and then imagine all the circles and cube I have to draw to construct anything and I just say "no thanks" and play video games instead. When I watch streams of "better" artists, they are not using construction at all, and they symbol draw out the ass, but they're having fun. I don't have that.
>>
>>5444661
It's mostly just practice and technical knowledge,
The only way to be able to symbol draw from memory well is to know how certain limbs work and how the human body is designed, and the only way to truly get that downpat in some form is to practice construction.
Just do small practice drills every once in a while and write notes about how you did it + where everything is meant to go.

Just eyeball it. Or copy a photo ref, or someone else's painting. It really doesn't matter if you're doing things the "right" way, if you end up not doing anything at all.
If /beg/ ever tells you that your drawings look like shit, and that you need to learn construction, reply with the "Yes" meme image, and a post saying that you don't like construction so you just don't bother with it.

The point of the head measurement is consistent proportions even in perspective. the heads start to overlap in perspective. The core of the body is always going to be roughly 3 heads from the chin to the pubis. If your character is short the head grows not the proportions. If your character is tall the limbs grow not the core. If they are giant the head shrinks. It's all relative.
This is why literally measuring everything never works. This is an abstract concept not a measuring stick.

So I am only interested in ever drawing the head. Portraits and shit. I've noticed as an absolute beginner Loomis and construction confuses me and goes over my head. I can't understand how to really utilize the shapes properly and it feels random and awkward trying to understand where to place things using basic shapes. As someone who has drawn maybe a month total in my lifetime (I have just now decided to get serious about it), how long should I just draw what I see without any construction/technique until I move to learning it?

When in your journey do you Loomis is basically what I'm asking.

no, it's like when you do mental math (you do construction in your head) vs writing your work down on paper so you can keep track of it. one isn't more advanced than the other they are in fact the same. just one you do in your head, so it might be faster, but it can be hard to keep track of things.

A big word "contraposto" when the body twist and tension happens on the skin when twisting. It might sound scary, but we know that the standing relaxed human facing forward. Our three center points, head, shoulders, and pelvis, always remain horizontal and facing one direction. Rethink the 1-3 twist. Also the breast should connect to the armpit.

To be honest I haven’t learned how to properly use the mannequin nor memorized it because it yet since when I tried to study it my perspective fundie was really lacking, which is why I’ve been studying that and I started Michael hamptons book to make a second round on it. Basically a bad case of not sketching primitives and the mannequin for practice yet. Still planning my focused practice away from the internet later this month too so maybe I’ll stop drawing really long bodies in time

>unless someone has a compelling argument against it.
Certainly, I do, although I've neither heard nor read any argument for him by his eager defence team, let alone one I find compelling.

He is not a beginner. He is not even int. We can see from his artstation and other sources of evidence that he is an experienced and established 'artist' - a skilled practitioner of that disgustingly common western style. Whether or not he's a redditor is immaterial. We have no way of helping him get better and he shows little intention of helping us, and has nothing to offer us in between his attempts at showing off.

The only permissible artists here with a decade of experience, should be those actively giving feedback and explanations to beginners. Else, the contents of OP and the thread title will have to be changed accordingly. "Beginners in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or to ask for advice, but hulking foul stenched slobs incapable of common courtesy are also welcome to trample on your confidence."

I see no reason therefore not to treat his posts as offtopic. spam or trolling, because while they may arguably be art, they can't be considered valid contributions to the thread.

hey guys... i don't think this amount of planning is normal is it? critiques or anything i should add, i'm planning on making this my twitter background.

also can i vent here? how do i get over the anxiety of working on a big picture? i don't get much time in a single day to draw so i get stressed out thinking i have something unfinished waiting for me.

That's fair
I've actually only seem his sketches posted here too so I was going based off those. I wonder what my art will look like in 10 years.
Also wonder what reddit's version of /beg/ looks like
>>
>>5445846
I had several setbacks recently that reinforced the idea that I really can only paint has good as I draw, so Im just going to take the fundies seriously rather than taking shortcut just to post mediocre art to social media

He isn't here to give feedback or help anyone, and there is no one here that can help him. So he can only come here to get jerked off by people,

And to be fair the only reason that anon was even able to dox him is because he spams his "warmup" studies on a shitton of communities for novice artists.
>>
>>5445922
Anon he's implying that hes above int
I think
>>
>>5445922
Who are we talking about here?
>>
>>5445914
I made an account there to discuss 3D, but I felt it was too time consuming - the tiptoeing around people's feelings means you're often getting incomplete feedback or people discussing other people. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same on their 2D boards.

>>5445922
>really high
His artstation is like 4 years old, if that's what you're looking at, and even that's not below int. Even looking back then it was ugly but he knew exactly what he was doing.

wasn't /beg was created by/ draw snobs to shield /draw from amateur art not to shield beginners from competent art.
concept of necessity of such shielding enforced by bunch self appointed gatekeepers. You granted you power to deny or permit people from posting.
And this is in contradiction with purpose of rule 5: All discussion of artists should pertain directly to their work, and not their personal lives.

no one demand justification of postings

you don't have to draw it all at once. I'd start with the booba, and then when she was done, work on bits of the background so as to not having to worry about fixing the scale

/beg/ is the dumping grown of the non competent, although you will see /beg/ stragglers in other generals who have dunning kruger thinking they're too good to post here, meanwhile some anons here are better than some /alt/ /alt/ and /asg/ posters. Question bros, I've started to get better at reading plane changes, understanding forms, shading, and generally have started to develop pretty good comprehension skills in regards to understanding theory and what makes a good piece a good piece, shit I can even see improvements in my gesture drawing and my practices as well.

My problem lies in actually applying that theory to the test and I don't quite know where the root of the issue is. Am I drawing too fast? Not setting enough groundwork for my drawings? Do I not understand the tools or digital art tech enough? Is there some ugly habit peaking out when I'm not looking?

I guess I'm asking how you anons managed to solve this problem, or for any pointers in helpful experimentation and studying. ty.

Make sure you aren't putting more on your plate than your skills can handle and remember the whole point is to have fun. If you make a mistake, who cares - this is your world, and the only person you need to answer to is yourself, don't worry about anyone else.

Big scenes have a lot of objects to account for and lots of planning is necessary to ensure they are working together in harmony. What you've got looks normal to me.

Random pro art can be inspirational.
I actually wish, assuming that guy really is a professional concept artist from Reddit, that he would post more of his finished work instead of warmup sketches.
>>
>>5446719
I'm almost positive that he puts more effort into his "warmup sketches" than he leads us to believe. he's a parasite that gets off on being a big fish in a little pond, hence why he's also on reddit farming karma from r/learnart

I really admire how some of you can draw real faces with such convincing detail. Here's my first big attempt at emulating that. I used a few techniques to plan out everything, and I'm surprised that it turned out okay. I mean, my horrible shading and linework brings the whole thing down, but I'm working on it.

Critique please.
