Your mistake is trying to do that in the first place. Your philosophy about drawing is fundamentally incongruous with the organization of the human form. You are no different from cavemen drawing stick figures.

sticky document wasn't especially helpful when i checked
how the FUCK do you get used to the hand-eye motor control with a digital tablet?
i just bought one a few days ago b/c my friends were screaming at me to start doing digital and there was a pink chinatablet on sale.

i found that when a curve is very important on physical media, i'll repeatedly rotate and translate the (physical) canvas to draw the line or conic section more precisely in whatever direction my dominant arm is 'strongest'.
that doesn't fly so good w/ a digital tablet.
does everyone just practice doing clean linework and conic sections over again when starting w/ digital?
is there a good canon of exercises or warmups to make the switch from pencil / inkpen / pastels to digital faster?

i just sampled from a desaturated layer and came up with a range of value and covers some 75% of the greyscale? my thinking was that since its 'oceany' and would presumably be by a beach it would be bright since theres light being reflected everywhere. hence being heavy on the lighter tones
>>

Well I'm aiming for that type of style so I was trying to analyze it.
>>
>>5446113
what did you hope to learn from the drawing?
did you learn what you thought you would from it?

if tracing the originals isn't part of a clear path of self-teaching that brings you closer to finishing works you'll be happy about, it might not be a good use of your time.

>>

Hmm just mainly analyzing the structure.
I'm not a tracing advocate by the way, but it is useful for analyzing right?
And about what I learned from it, that's the issue which is why I'm here, I'm not sure if I placed all the "hidden" lines more or less correctly. If I did I guess I learned a bit about how to construct anime style heads from different angles I guess?

I don't know if anime faces are really meant to exist as 3d objects, but the nose should probably be on the center line.
>>
>>5446149
I don't see why you assume I don't study real heads as well actually. Relax.

>>5446153
Hmm hard to tell where anime noses actually start since they are super abstract so I went for the mouth as guidance point.
How would you have placed the center line in the side facing heads? Might have been a mistake to use a straight line on my end as well not sure.
>>

The industry won't be nice when you're ngmi, start learning the fundamentals if you ever want to branch into anime style

>>

>How would you have placed the center line
I really don't know. It bothers me that the nose dots in the 3:4 view faces are so far off to the side of the center line, but I can't tell where the line should be.
>>
Remember, if replying to schizos on /beg/ isn't part of a clear path of self-teaching that brings you closer to finishing works you'll be happy about, it might not be a good use of your time.

>>5446173
Analyzing the form of the head underneath the hair and trying to figure out patterns.
Tracing is literally just drawing the visible lines that you see 1:1, do you see me doing that in the picture all the way through?
Also last reply since I refuse to shit up this thread with this pointless argument any further.

>>5446176
Yeah anime noses are a mess haha.
>>
>>5446139
it's difficult to find out what you've learned from placing the construction lines until you've used them to derive a more finished piece.
i'd recommend drawing something from traces and then comparing your drawing to the reference, or redrawing the constructed geometry without tracing, then trying to finish that illustration.

>>5446149

I've painted for years with acrylics but I've just started working in watercolor. I need a pen (or ink - I have numerous fountain pens I could use) that will not run when watercolors are painted over it. I've tried several different pens and ink brands and no matter how long I let the ink dry on the paper it still runs. It's driving me nuts!

Anons... Please, I'm begging. How the fuck do you draw hands? I've watched several guides and tried many different techniques, but all hands I draw come out as deformed abominations. For fountain pen inks, ive had good experiences.with Platinum Carbon Black, just make sure to clean well. I've also heard some of the noodlers bulletproof inks are good, but I haven't tried them.

Sakura pigma micron pens seem to have fairly waterproof ink too. Most pigment based ink should work. There's also india ink if you want to use dip pens.
>>
>>5446254
I took this page from my sketchbook and held it under a running tap for about a minute. The thin lines drawn with a Pilot gel pen ran a bit, but the Royal Talens india ink didn't.
I think india ink is generally supposed to be waterproof, but I haven't tried different kinds. I don't know if that's only true for specific brands.

where's his brow? Where's the other half of his nose? Why is his head like a balloon? Where are his jowls? The scar on the nose lacks depth, it's just a straight line across the face even though it should come from behind the nose from a lower angle, dead emotionless pupils that look in different directions and are of different size, misshapen eyes, no cheekbones, no indication of twisting in the neck even when he's looking to the left with his body going forward, misshapen earpiece, wrong perspective in the hat, no clear indicator for shadows, just placed all over.

There's some issues but look into breaking down the head into planes( start simple then move onto an asaro head) and look into reilly rhythms.

I found Brian Knox at the Watts Academy was a good teacher for reilly rhythms because they're pretty complex at first.

Not my work btw

A lot of people dont seem to know this about color but as you go lighter you should be turning the color wheel to warmer colors as you go. If you are going darker you should turn it to cooler colors. So if its a shade of red the light red should be slightly orange, and the darker red should be slightly magenta. A very subtle effect that will really add character.
Couldn't sleep so I decided to draw to calm my nerves

It does, yeah. Especially the eyes, and the nose bridge. Also the nipples.

Drawing with intent and confidence is more important than saving the precious and innocent paper, at your stage it's essential to develop the habit of just making a mess and filling the whole notebook with quick sketches and doodles together with practicing the fundamental skills you are missing.

I tried to make it less stiff by bending it, but looks like it was no help (anfortunetely i read the advises when i was lining it), i also tried to focus the light source, to make it more or less logical. And blending texture brushes was a mistake. But, idk, i kinda satisfied with this experiment.

Loomis literally doesn't teach you what he's trying to teach you, it's not about books but Loomis just making a lot of assumptions about your knowledge.

To go through loomis effectively you need to know some perspective, this isn’t said often because people like to spout memes instead of actually helping

FWAP is ok for what it is but it just gets you into a lot of traps, it forces you to draw basic shapes in an observational way without you understanding how you should feel the form instead, he skips very fundamental things and only teaches some perspective waaay too late, and never teaches form despite it being a requirement for what he's telling you.

>>5446894
The /beg/ document only recommends Loomis for composition and design.
It's Observation -> Form -> Perspective, and form should be perceived as an inherent part of perspective or else you'll get in the bad habit of drawing paper figures on top of point perspective scenes instead of developing your spatial sense.
>>
>>5446614
I researched it for a bit and apparently it can also be called "contour lines". When I last asked in this board someone called it "structure" which is how I searched and got to these Proko videos I mentioned, but I don't like Proko and I want to go a bit more indepth, so this is why I'm asking here.
>>
>>5446894
The sticky rightful assumes that 95% of the people starting want to draw people and not building and objects. Not even children learn to draw with perspective they draw people

My biggest issue with this is the saturation levels are going crazy. I did a little paint over but I didn't fix everything. Be careful with the eyes, especially with color. You shaded the eyes with a warm color, but you should be using a cool tone. When people have yellow eyes it means they're sick. Try to smooth out shading as much as possible. Be careful of over using highlights. They should be the last thing to go on, and be used sparingly.

EVERYTHING you draw is in perspective, it's a massive topic that encompasses everything if you take it seriously, if you don't take it seriously then you will forever struggle with things like posing characters.

it's not a misconception it's an obverserable fact. when was the last time you seen begs running around here begging for resources on drawing bridges in 3pt perspective and not tutorials on how to draw waifu. People want to draw humans despite it being easily the hardest subject to draw.
>EVERYTHING you draw is in perspective, it's a massive topic that encompasses everything if you take it seriously, if you don't take it seriously then you will forever struggle with things like posing characters.
Now this is where we agree, and would list
perspective as the first fundamental artists should consider becoming a good artist. But again you're going have a hard time selling it's importance to a person that still doesn't know the different between a 2b and 4h pencil. Artist are not going to always do what's good for them and Iris knew that went she wrote the sticky.

I think it happens from dabbling around art communities consistently but never actually going out of your way to make friends, then eventually it’ll happen naturally. Did this drawing take 1.5 hour? if so you need to speed it up, imo this should have taken about half and hour. With that said you did a pretty good job, you got the most of the gesture right. Now your proportions are off, the model has a lot more fat then what you have in your drawings. Look at the stomach and the arm on the right side both are need to be bigger, same with the hip area. The arm and leg pose is off as well, the arm on the left side should be lowered a bit and the right side foot should be more parallel to the left side heel. overall not bad and keep it up

how do i do this
>>
>>5447665
1. Make burner account
2. Download Mega app on phone
3. Click import (only work on the app version)
4. Wait
You can keep the link alive for 2 weeks by doing this. You can't download from this account, however you can circumvent this by sharing the files you want to download with your main mega account.

I tried but got cucked by the limits (I have the bonuses and shit).
Anyways, there is a lot of shit that is useless or from bad teachers.
I'll try to make a torrent with "premium/elite" stuff and avoid anything
of bad quality.

The larger folders and a handful of single folders are the most useful
from that MEGA imo.

well done anon, if i had one suggestion, it would be to emphasize the side plane of the middle figure. it might just be the angle of the pic but it feels a little flat.

Damn, I can't find the reference picture to check. I actually do have a tendency to not show the side planes correctly when doing cubes, but it could also be that I didn't shade it at all.

frog man, once you are finished with hampton i highly recommend famous artist cartoon course, it will really help you benefit from drawing more frogs in the current way you draw and also jack hamm's cartooning the head and figure
once i am finished with morpho and some bridgman and also getting the gist of gesture and more figure drawing i'll definitely be using this

be aware of MEGA's recent change of ToS. I got a couple of my tutorial files from 2 years ago deleted. I thought leaving it as is would keep it safe, but after a year of not opening my account I found out all of my files are gone. All that was left were empty folders. I'm thinking it's because of copy right issue, but I'm not sure. All in all, just be wary when using MEGA as a cloud storage back up.

practice easier poses and move gradually into more foreshortened ones. the extreme foreshortening in the bottom left one is tricky. youve got a good start though, blocking out the ribs and pelvis is a good idea.
>>
>>5447775
>I'd ask you to post your work but you seem far more concerned with talking than drawing
Damn, didn't mean to make you seethe that hard. You seem to have quite the fragile ego.

Don't get that hurt by words if they are irrelevant to you, silly. Your bait needs some work, though.
I don't know if you are too used to /beg/s biting rather quickly —but I've got nothing to prove to you.
If you want to compare dicks —start by posting your work first; although I doubt you will comply.
>>

They did this to me but just from one of my accounts (one in which I stored Anime/Manga).
My Art archive accounts are still intact. I started using them just in case, basic delete - upload traffic.

I think that it only applies to free accounts. At least as far as I understand that seems to be the case.
You shouldn't have such issue if you have a premium account, but I wouldn't risk it. I don't know if
you are the same anon that got his files deleted after 1 year of inactivity, but if you are, maybe it
also applies to premium accounts (dunno if you/anon were/was still paying on that year of inactivity
so not sure).
>>
>>5447896
Hm, okay that makes sense. I am a different anon, have never had anything deleted, and I was inactive with my mega for about 6 months+ (I downloaded the courses I was going to focus on this year and the references I needed, etc.). If nothing happened to my cloud for over 6 months, I guess there's probably nothing to worry about if you're premium.

Hi I've been drawing for about 6 months and painting for 10, i would really like some constructive criticism to help me improve.what do you guys think of my painting

>>5447942
there's a reason the old masters learned to draw before painting and to that end I suggest you focus on learning the fundamentals of drawing as well

It's too tight. Her head isn't even completely in frame. She's looking at something off-canvas, effectively behind the viewer. The overall effect is unnerving.

MEGA anon here. I think they do it to old free accounts, I created that MEGA account years ago. Back then they only offer you like 15-20gb free storage unlike today where in they give you 50gb.

I switched over to Gdrive and renamed the folder to something like "Loomis017fgavb" or something similar so it won't get deleted. The downside to Gdrive is that they only offer 15gb of free storage. The zipping is really slow when you try to download folders or multiple files. I suggest downloading the files in "standard" mode (one by one), compressed all the files using 7zip, then back them up as a "zip" or "7zip" file extension. So next time you download the file it'll be much faster and easier, Gdrive's zipping is a pain in the ass.
