Whats the right way to find the right colors for your drawing without overdoing it? Also in most cases the white parts in drawings is never actually white but grey or something but because of the surrounding colors it appears white, how can you judge something like that and choose the right shading and grey color?

study "HSB/HSV" it's basically Hue, Saturation, and Value (or Brightness) and how each thing affects the overall artwork. If you have the money but the CtrlPaint color starter kit. it's great for beginners. It helped me a lot when it comes to understanding and finding the right colors for certain artworks.

>choose the right shading and grey color?

its not actually gray its usually a light yellow maybe a bit grayer

also learn color theory, look up complementary colors and how certain colors make people feel; color design and palettes,.

red is attention grabbing/love/anger/passion

yellow is also very attention grabbing

purple is passion too, etc etc.

dont use what you think something looks like use a substitute. dark browns/blues etc for black, light yellowy grays for whites, it makes highlights and when you do use the stark black or white a lot more impactful and realistic

as a general rule color neighbors are usually not bad together, and the color across from them is complementary :D

hope i helped sort of
>>
>>5449703
Of course first you will need to understand the different dimensions of color theory, Hue saturation and luminosity/ lightness;

After that you will need to link them to lighting. What we call "color theory" is in fact an abstract way of perceiving colors as affected by a light quality. Light quality can cool or hear colors, it can increase saturation or decease it. It can even affect value and contrast.

The more you link color theory to light the more tools you will have to effectively asses colors.

Why do you all continue to fall for this and feed this person? They are not crazy and most likely can actually draw but y’all just continue circle jerking this into the ground. It’s not funny anymore. Y’all seriously going to feed into this 5 years from now when they clearly have no intention on posting anything better than this stuff? Needs to end honestly.

>choose the right shading and grey color?
This is pretty much the whole project of drawing.

If you were doing a pencil sketch, I'd say start by establishing a midtone. So if you were drawing a figure, you'd fill the shaded half of the body with that tone, following the major contours of the shadow.

From there, I'd darken some of the shadows. eg fill in the shadows under the armpit. But still not going 100% black yet.

Then add halftones--fill in the areas that are a little brighter than the mid tones, but not as bright as the brightest bright areas. Once you have these major tones in, you can start shading in smaller details--is the pit of the knee darker than the darkest shadow on the side of the hip?

You can tone your background before beginning, and let this establish your baseline.

Of course with digital you can erase and layer as much as you want, but you'll probably still want to build up those tones in purposeful steps. You'll get more efficient and confident in choosing values than if you paint over the same area a million times.

Color studies from nature will give you experience with judging color. Classic example being the red of an apple--grade school kids will ladle on the brightest red paint they can find, but it feels more like an apple if you observe the less saturated shades of red, and eg the purplish or brownish hue of the shadows.

Schizo fren i don't dislike you, but have you tried drawing something for more than 5 minutes? Maybe you have the attention span of a bee, and that's ok, you can leave it and come back to it later. I just think it would be cool to see what you could do with a more focused, dedicated, singular piece

I think a lot of these would look better if they were on actual physical paper.
They would have a nice presence in the real word, compared to being confined to jpegs.
You should try to reproduce these in charcoal, or marker. If you want to reproduce the digital feel, then silkscreen printing might be a good option.

Color Theory

Just pick a shade that makes the most sense to you. (to both questions)
