really only good for coloring or compositing, which is what it's made for. In my opinion macromedia flash 8 was simple enough to use as a beginner before I moved to Clip Studio Paint

pencil2d is lightweight and simple, just don't expect complex brushes

You'd be surprised how easy it is to animate without a lightbox just by flipping.
https://youtu.be/sEVpPYD306k Notice how he never has to turn on his lightbox. I find it's actually better to NOT flip if you can help it since it keeps you constantly aware of how the drawings look in motion.
