unironically Tom of Finland, both for the way he drew leather with a pencil and how he managed to spend his whole career not giving a fuck about anything and making everyone mad including the actual gay community he was selling to.

why? I don't look at gay porn but from the little I know this seems to be right up their alley, legitimate skills though.
>>

I’m guessing it was the part we’re he stereotyped being gay as being in a bike gang
>>

>>
>>5673276
Tom's stories involve a ton of rape and were published at a time when being gay was still illegal in most places, and when gay activism was all about convincing people they weren't complete degenerates out for any piece of straight ass they could pin down and inject HIV in.

Basically he was to the gays back then what the trannies getting caught with hard drives full of cp are to their own movement now. They liked his work but it made them look bad.

He also drew a ton of nazi fetish porn but people only got mad about it recently.

Kek, I didn't mean to hurt your ego anon. BTW, just a warning if you're worried about ai taking over art, those who rely solely on technique will go away long before artists with some sort of emotionally based appeal. Just by the nature of the machine, and the way ai works. Though I wonder if the emotionally dead will still prefer hand crafted emotionally dead work? Would that then disprove they are soulless? Machines sorting out machines. Huh.

Mark Evanier, who edited for Sergio Aragones when he drew Groo the Wanderer for Marvel Comics' Epic line, said that Sergio was the only cartoonist he knew who, when drawing a caricature of himself, made himself look *less* attractive than he was in real life. Sergio frequently inserted himself, Mark, and letterer Stan Sakai (of Usagi Yojimbo fame) into the background and crowd scenes in issues of Groo.

In fact, if you ever watched the old TV's Bloopers, Blunders, and Practical Jokes hosted by Dick Clark and Ed McMahon, Sergio drew himself as the animated janitor that came by in between commercial breaks (pic related)
>>
>>5677641
I am
chinese
so my exposure to Sergio is limited only to MAD magazines that are crazy expensive over here, I bought a copy of the MAD bathroom companion and a few MAD mags when I was a kid travelling in Australia (or was it London?)

I still have the same bathroom companion book from a decade ago, I later went onto Amazon and bought a hardcover collection of his drawings and I would still read them on and off to this day.

There's a story that when Sergio went to Mad's offices in New York to get a job, he wanted Antonio Prohias ("Spy vs. Spy") to translate for him, since he knew Prohias had emigrated from Cuba and would speak Spanish. Little did he know that Prohias spoke *less* English than Sergio did!

really like this twitter artist lighty's style. i'm not an artist so i'm probably going to explain this retardedly but i like the way their lines are somewhat aliased weirdly so it looks a bit jagged (though this is prolly just the inherent nature of the brush/program they use). other than that, i like the way they draw fabrics and clothes; the texturing is top notch. the color pallets they use are also quite soft and muted. i also like they way they draw paws/claws.

maybe someone who actually draws can explain my ramblings better.

As someone who was also partially inspired by this faggot. Get another inspiration, he's not someone to look up to.

90% of his relevance isn't even his work, but him being an internet lolcow. My few art interactions with him have been massive letdowns and he continues to be a retard to this day. Take the 90's anime cues from his art and leave while you still have a semblance of positive outlook in his art. Once you get to a semi competent level, you realize how absolutely mediocre his work is in the grander scheme and how he's unable of finishing anything.

TL;DR Get better inspirations.

Ok:
>if your child studies every day, they will succeed
Generic subject, unknown gender -> singular they; grammarfags will get up in arms but this is largely considered natural, imagine it as it referring to the set of unknown nouns as a collective
>if your child studies every day, he will succeed
Generic subject, unknown gender -> male pronoun; traditional way of doing it
>have you seen Anon? I have to give this to him
Gpecific subject, known gender
>have you seen Anon? I have to give this to her
Same as above

Cringe:
>your child studies every day, he or she will succeed
Wordy, unwieldy
>if your child studies every day, she will succeed
Not just wrong and contrarian, it doesn't even remove the issue of potentially acribing the wrong gender
>have you seen Anon? I have to give this to them
Plural for a specific singular noun

He did a lot of work like this for Games Workshop back in those halcyon days before the Dark Age of Technology. In the Art of Ian Miller, he explains how Ralph Bakshi roped him into doing the backgrounds for Wizards.

Miller and his wife were broke, wandering the streets of San Francisco, when Bakshi tracked him down through contacts in New York and London, and asked him if he wanted to work on a new animated film (Wizards). Miller agreed, and he said that while Bakshi worked him like a slave-driver that he also at the same time gave him tremendous creative freedom, which he still remembers fondly and is grateful for.

Miller's backgrounds mostly show up in the land of Skorch, where the mutant wizard Blackwolf reigns supreme.

this thread has kinda illuminated a point about my art that i'm a little insecure about. i can't really name a single artist that's been influential on me as an artist or that i've used as inspiration for my art or even motivation on my artistic journey. i just kinda draw because it's fun, but i feel like if i had some actual people whose work i could point to and say "this is what i want my stuff to look like", i wouldn't be stuck in this trench of stagnation, but i don't even know where to start. the vast swathes of information and resources on the internet is both a blessing a curse, because i don't really know where to begin looking for stuff i like.
and that's where this thread comes in. so much cool shit has been posted here already and already just looking up a few artists names i've been able to find out their own inspirations, their contemporaries and their contemporaries inspirations.
thanks a bunch /ic/. thanks for reading my blog post, don't forget to smash that like button, ding the bell, smother the subscribe, mangle some merch, offer up your first-born in the name of unholy creature known as N'lakgathu and eat more grains

For me, it's pretty much anyone who contributed to the black and white inks phase of mid 90s wargaming. In particular, I'm fond of the stuff found in Mutant Chronicles. Peter Berting had a marvelously soulful phase before he moved onto coloured art which was seriously inferior. Of course, Les Edwards and Paul Bonner are the last word in this era and field of art, but they are more technically accomplished and lean into impressive spreads opposed to the smaller, simple pieces that I like.

Ben's getting (a lot) older, but he still draws. One of the things I really enjoy about his work is his reverence for the classics. There are homages to so many things in his work - especially Ninja High School - and it warms my heart when I got back and flip through those.

It's too bad the "Ninja High School vs. Teenager From Outer Space" crossover never happened. I think he could have done it justice.

One of the funniest issues I remember is when the Quagmire kids went to visit the neighboring town of Flugerville (named for Pflugerville, Texas - near where Ben Dunn resides). In an earlier issue, Ben had drawn a "preview" showing that the Flugerville kids were going to look like the Archies, and that just about everybody from Quagmire had a counterpart in Flugerville: Jeremy and Archie, Asrial and Betty, Arnie and Moose, etc.

Antarctic Press pretty quickly got a C&D from Archive Comics, so at the last minute, Ben changed the designs of the characters so as not to infringe. A year or so later, however, in the Ninja High School Yearbook, he reproduced the original designs and jokingly suggested that readers who wanted to live dangerously could cut out the heads from the yearbook and paste them over the ones in the published comic.

Use this, actually putting together and having a single visual with all your influences makes things more manageable. Also thinking about how much of something you like helps, do you like the majority of an artists work or just a single artwork from them.

the problem is if i browse stuff it just keeps piling on and on. probably should bite the bullet and limit myself to some with that chart.

yeah started trying to do this. was pretty hard in the beginning but for some stuff i was able to determine common aspects.
But still there is so much cool stuff. And I haven't even dug deep yet due to lacking exposure to things outside of what i know and grew up with.

Based in this work, you want to outline the things in focus and change the color of the line depending on the color of the shape. You want a vektor based background (no outlines). Also clearly define shadow and light shapes and blend when the subject turns away softly (but remain mostly sharp devisions).Lastly, in this composition there is mainly a range of colors between blue and yellow (contrasting colors). Hope my pseudo art analysis could help.

Dave Trampier did a lot of great work for TSR over the years, too, including the covers of books and the wraparound artwork for the Dungeon Masters' screen.

Unfortunately, there was some sad, strange turn of events: he was writing and illustrating a comic strip about a wargaming dragon who hired trolls to fight as mercenaries in his games called "Wormy" for Dragon magazine, and then abruptly called it quits, leaving TSR forever. He never finished the strip, and became a recluse. His brother confirmed that he'd later become sick and passed away.

RIP, Dave Trampier.

Only in teenage years when internet was more of an thing I knew the names.
Akihiko Yoshida and Tetsuya Nomura from final fantasy games and Kinu Nishimura from street fighter.
