IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1.-screenshot the image and post that instead
2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

Use a crocodile head as reference first and foremost, or a kommodo dragon, the head is an extreme eyesore. Ik what you are attempting to do, but it reads as odd, especially the really thin lower jaw, take some pointers from crocs and incorporate it into the head design, also the odd feathers/spikes, you could have them as tendrils or a pony tail of hair in the back sticking out as well. You definitely have a decent good start on anatomy, also, work on the feet a little more and incorporate/synthesize human/reptilian designs for the little features a little better. Same with the tail, can't tell which side is upside-right with regards to the tail end, again, use reference, croc, iguana, kommodo dragon, monitor lizard, etc. But still nice job regardless. Your strongest image is the weight lifting one, coposition and technical skill wise.
>Tell me what should i practice more
Torso, breasts, alternative heads (study the skulls and fleshed heads of animals, notably reptiles), feet (both human and reptile, maybe avian too), values.
>HOW DO I MAKE DECENT PICTURES OF MY TRADFAG PAPER SHEETS.
Not sure honestly, I switched to digital because I like to mess with color without the mess. But I still draw traditionally myself from time to time. I believe there are some resources out there, sadly I don't have them off the top of my head, sorry. Nice job though, keep drawing what you like.

A beginner shouldn't be using a 4B pencil, you don't have the control in your strokes just yet.

I have no clue what do you mean. Are you trying to say you want your drawing to look realistic? As far as I can tell you don't have any fundamentals, you don't understand how shapes work. You need to work on simpler shapes in my opinion to get a grasp of "3D".

Well do you realize he was using a combination of pencils right? 4B is good for darker values, 2H and 4H for lighter values and sketching and an eraser for highlights and blending.
I don't think you should be using anything but a 2HB until you get better at drawing otherwise you'll be wasting money on resources you don't really need.
>I have 1 year of fundies under my belt.
Use them then because so far you haven't shown anything that has any fundamentals whatsoever.
If you want to watch a vid then try this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJkWTb-Zx44
It goes in a whole lot more detail on how to draw realistically. Pic related is how the first exercise turned out for me. I used a 2H for the sketch a 2B for most of the outlines and a 4B/6B for the darkest values.

By following the contour of the sliced sphere you mean how in some of Loomis' examples it takes almost a right turn when it gets to the flat, right?
Also what do you mean showing the other side of the sliced sphere? Do you mean doing it with dashed lines or something like when someone draws a see through of a cube?

>>
I've been doing the Krenz accuracy, and I find it very difficult to learn how to eyeball proprtions.
I get that I can block out shapes at each step and overlay my work to check for accuracy, but I'm not sure how I can really use that information to help me identify the correct angles and spacing outside of knowing that I'm doing it wrong.
Also, I've been mainly doing these excercises traditionally and I have no idea if distortion could be fucking me up too or if I'm just making excuses at that point.
I've been think that maybe I should have what I'm drawing and my canvas be at the same height and as close as possible to each other, but I dunno if that defeats the point of the exercise.

Can anyone share some advice?
>>
>>5848462
never posted that. I reworked it.
>>
>>5848470
>>5848467
Brent Eviston talks about distortion in his fundie course. He uses an easel and sets the drawing up at 90 degrees, puts the subject to the left of the easel. So you just scoot your head to the left and back again to draw with accuracy.

You should, it can give a better perspective on proper proportions, I want to say the legs might be a bit too long, when you compare them to the length of the arms on a standard technical level, but people vary wildly in shape and size and limb difference lengths, so you could chalk it up to that, but where the feet are would give a better impression, still, it's a very well put together work, congrats. But yes, draw the feet, I would encourage you to draw the toes as well because it seems like every artist skips that and seems to be a universal weak spot and looked over area.

Not too bad, stylize the hair and skip the frizzy corpse scratch hair, but whoever made this is slowly understanding the finer details of the face, hence the lip protrusion, and the eye from the other side. Also, simplify the eyebrows, you don't NEED to go 100% on photocopying it, again, you are an artist, an illusionist creating visually appealing and mostly accurate (with some liberties) art. Find ways to incorporate hair read as hair but also staying somewhat truthful to the original. But nice study none the less, slowly on your way to progress and success.

>>5848544
Take it or leave it. The eyebrow and the hair are the most eyesores right off the get go, especially the super scratchy hair, as for the rest, it depends on your goals and what you want. There are no rules, just tools and fools.
>>
>>5848547
This is alongside the obvious other flaws that I didn't want to mention, such as the chin jutting out too much, the forehead, lack of the other side of the face showing at all other than the eye bulging out, but the anon who made this is at least beginning to understand the beginning ideas of the anatomy of the face, but I mentioned hair because for some reason, scratch hair and scratch eyebrows are just freaky looking, even on beginners studies to me, at least a quick fix to make a somewhat more appealing study as a stand alone piece.

I was advised to work on breaking down figures into shapes and cubes to improve my gesture. I imagine something like this is what they meant, which means i will actually have to take a step back and work on cubes in perspective because i cannot for the life of me figure out how to draw the hip for the third figure. Any pointers would be great.

I didn't save the one that was posted on twitter in time before it was deleted so I couldn't discern the major differences. I can see them now, thanks.
>>
>>5848670

Your proportions vary a lot, for example ribcage to pelvis is massively different between 1 and 2 and just the general with/height ratios of the various pieces are off.

In 1 the ribcage is much more tilted in the ref

2 should not be fully 2d like that, the ribcage would be tilting backwards and the pelvis forward in a neutral stance and you would probably want to slightly rotate the head to make it more interesting.

3 is not bad but the pelvis should be larger because it is closer and I suspect the head somewhat overlaps the ribcage.

This is easier with nude figures because you can see the pelvis and ribcage poke out at landmarks.

I'll draw over it in a bit.

I'd recommend drawing their tops in line with the eyebrows and their bottoms around the lips. The actual cartilidge shape of the ear is what you should be drawing and worrying about lining up the flabby loose bits rarely works out.

Also remember that the chin is not necessarily in line with the front of the forehead or the upper lip from a profile view. It's typically a bit recessed, and you should exaggerate that recession.

Cartalige, excuse my mispellings. It's that elastic stuff your ears, nose, and joints are made of. The silouhette of the ear - the overall shape - is more determined by bits of flabby skin that cover the cartalige. I guess you could say cartalige is the "skeleton" of the ear, though it actually has bone in it. Most artists don't bother with the skin and just draw the shape the cartalige carves out.

Objects are all subject to their own "vanishing points" because they are rotated on multiple axises. If you know the horizon line of the environment, you understand the viewer's position, and you can figure out how the VPs of the rotated objects relative to them.

So let's say I'm practicing boxes in perspective on digital - Do I just rotate the canvas for the straight lines? If I do it raw it takes me dozens of ctrl+z's.

The shoulder could be a little wider, the torso is long or the arms are too short(where the elbows are is where the bellybutton should be), and the face is okay if you are doing the anime thing but the ear could be higher(from the brow to the bottom of the nose). I tried to follow boro's donut render tutorial but it looks like fucking shit because I have gimp not Photoshop so I have no idea what he's talking about with the layer settings. I get the general idea he was explaining but this looks way worse than it should and I feel pretty fucking bad about that.

This shit is going to be the end of me. Trying to get a sharp turn between the plane and ball contour especially just fucks with me, some angles I feel like I can get it fine and others it just ends up as a continuation

Beg here, but it feels like your problem is that you don't have much trust when placing your lines. How about grinding a bit in Drawabox?

I just watched the lesson by brent eviston and it made me realize i never really thought about the proper way to make a sphere and that its similar to drawing a transparent box.
>make a circle
>make a horizontal and vertical line that split the circle in equal parts
>draw two ovals for the vertical and horizontal lines and darken one side of each oval to show where the sphere is facing.
its really neat.
>>
>>5849345
That sounds pretty helpful actually, you happen to have a link for that video or was this in one of the video courses in the torrent general?

I find myself adding layer on top of layer to increase values

although I am partially satisfied with what is coming out of it (I know there are many issues) the time it is taking me to do it seems too long

Do you have the time, leeway, and patience to practice for 8+ hours every single day for those 5 years?
>>
>>5849215
great job
>>
>>5848178
Today’s practice, conté stick.

After this point I experimented with a darker red-brown shade to deepen the values, but I selected poorly and the hues didn’t blend well. Still it’s a practice drawing to learn so I went forward with modeling hair and deepening the darks anyway. Issues to work on include face alignment and the major contours like the convex side, obviously the rendering etc. but it’s a good step forward.

>>5848880
the right color looks like you dipped into symbol drawing but good effort anon
>>
>>5848937
oh yeah thanks, i need to focus on one area at a time or i keep jumping around. is there a better way for measurement in digital? the sighting method taught in ktd cant really apply to digital
>>
>>5849051
not him but you might need to practise a bit more observational drawing, the accuracy of the drawing is a bit off in terms of scale and the roundness of the back part of the spider. maybe after your warmup exercises draw something from observation before you dwell into practising figures

holy shit that was hard
>>
>>5849664
>the sighting method taught in ktd cant really apply to digital
why not? what materials are you working with?
>>
>>5850295
because ktd teaches to use the pencil as the main length finder thing. hard to do in digital since the scale of reference is smaller than of the pencil
>>
>>5850372
>scale of reference
could reword/elaborate on that phrase? sorry, I'm retarded and just wanna make sure I understand you
>>
>>5850453
well to be exact. the book teaches to hold the pencil upright and measure shit, it can't be done in digital since its not life size
>>
>>5850479
>since it's not life size
I don't draw digitally, but I use reference photos on my computer all the time to draw things; I mainly draw from reference photos. not only that, but I use the sighting techniques taught in ktd. there are multiple ways to change the scale: enlarge or shrink the photo, move your computer towards or away from you, move your harm towards or away from your computer.
