IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1.-screenshot the image and post that instead
2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller
3.-send to computer and resize in MSPaint

READ THE STICKY:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Yeah I'm using a tablet, I don't see it being a hardware/software issue unless there's some sort of sensitivity setting? But I'm also noticing myself shaking alot using the tablet versus trad. Never had this issue with trad

a large canvas with a pen size anywhere from 5-30
>>
>>5849522
I assume you are drawing with your wrist because I don't think its possible to be that shakey with your shoulder. Have you tried using a ruler to see if its a hardware problem?

I train my wrist by drawing circles and boxes at various rotations as large as I can for a few minutes every day but most of what you have drawn seems more suited to the shoulder.

Digital is generally pretty low friction so I find its most similar to brush or roller/fountain pen.
>>
>>5849557
i find tablets to be quite slippery compared to paper
just do the type of line control exercises (lines, arc, ellipses, circles) that you'd do on trad, but digitally

is drawing a banana from reference the ultimate practice for begs? Think about it:
>Surprisingly hard to be accurate, have to pay attention to where the C curve bends the most, pay attention to the angle, to the length, the thickness
>Organic form with clearly defined faces, twists in 3D space
>Good practice putting contour lines as you draw the faces of the banana up the sides, can observe how they wrap the form
>Can draw the imperfections of the banana and how they change in perspective
>Can place the banana sticker on different areas of the banana and see how it wraps the form
>Can draw cylinders over the organic form and study cylinders in perspective
>Can cut in half and practice cross sections
>Can clearly see which parts of the banana face the light and which are facing away if you want to get a bit more advanced and study basic lighting
>Cheap, can go to your local grocery store or gas station and buy a banana
>When you're done drawing for the day you have a healthy snack
Should I take the bananapill?
>>
thanks all and sorry for being petulant
>>5849574
I just used a ruler and can confirm its me, sounds alot like guitar where the idea is to strum from the elbow and not the wrist, if that makes any sense
Ill try those shoulder exercises and see if that helps.

made him look like fatty version of leon, observation is all you really need for portraits. over-exaggerated and a bit too sharp lines for the lips. sometimes when i cant spot anything out of place, i place the reference under the sketch and find out where i went wrong then measure everything again restate. the distance between the eyes is usually 1 eye and in your drawing it a bit too small

neither one of these are right. shadows are deep dark black unless there is 0 ambient light. that shadow would have some bounce light or skylight seeping into it, make it lighter and show the features of the face underneath. there would be no shadow like this unless you are on the moon or in a really specific studio lighting

Any tips for converting to digital? I am having trouble getting the right shade of colour i need when rendering and its hard for me to switch tools mid-line , usually when i draw i use both side and point of the pencil but here it's not that easy.

one of your problems is the silhouette, cats (big and small) have a pronounced hump in their shoulders and when it's not there it looks strange, as well as a more rounded lower section. If you have the adobe suite, you can also try out adobe dimension. It’s used for quick 3D renderings but I found it to be a pretty good tool for mapping out basic shapes (cubes, spheroids, cones) in 3D. You can use this to do some basic shape layouts, or use it to correct errors in your own perspective

Your values are a bit off (your darks ought to be darker), and the woman's right bicep is short. There's some other issues, but they're not nearly as major and can mostly be put down to natural development of the image.

Aye, dude. Just remember that it's always better to have an image with too dark darks and too light lights than muddy either. It won't look realistic, but it'll look striking.

Right now I'm gettin better by thinking of things in a four point scale of "darkest, dark, midtone, light". Haven't gotten many results yet, but I'm havin a good time. If you wanna check, shrink that shit down to a thumbnail. Picrel's a bad example since it was a complex subject, so it looks like it crawled out of Zetterstrand's ass.
