Why You Should Copy Anime:https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0.jpghttps://youtu.be/kbKqIJcIUCw**Strive for quantity AND quality.**Anime Studying:>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.General Anime Style Discussion:>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**Japanese Book Collection:https://mega.nz/#F!UcNG2AiT!jeyWwP1gtQXXz6R29o5bgw!sddDyarDRecommended Resources:https://pastebin.com/Yz2scAEc/mmg/ - Manga Making General:>>>/ic/mmgPrevious Thread:>>6084487

But in reality you're just a lazy fuck face who cries on ic about western and eastern art differences. You wanna know how Asians are different? They don't give a shit about your race or culture. They like your work they say nice and move on. No one is fucking obsessed with race of an artist. You're just lazy and temperature iq. I don't need to seethe I'm already asian.

Word of advice and Pro life tip:If someone cannot give you a full explanation of their point of view or answer basic questions. It means they are not very smart and just rehashing someone else who is smarter's opinion. There is no "haha, I can give my shitty takes and tell anyone who questions it they are seething." There is just they are stupid and that is it. If you question a mindset or belief and are met with a hostile response, those people don't understand the subject at hand and are talking out of their asses. They want you just to take their word for it.You can apply this mindset to any ic post or twitter post. If you ask questions, a decent person can answer instead of getting defensive and doing what they are accusing other people of doing.
eyes are hard. need tips. thx
What's the best japanese book in the mega for learning proportions and just how to draw heads (female particularly)?
>>6108524Draw a box.
>>6107950Study the eye anatomy, not so you can draw eyes realistically but so you can understand each component of the "eye" and so you became able to abstract each component in to a simplified shape that still has cohesion and form of how a eye "works". What you are doing right now is what most people (if they are not retarded) would call symbol drawing, you are just drawing how you see and how you think anime eyes look without thinking or trying to understand the forms and shapes they have and why they are the way they are. You need to understand reality first before you transform it. I did a pretty shitty example of how I visualized and changed a more realistically shaped eye and each component to something close to what I imagine you want. I think you want to do something closer to 2000's anime style, those are a lot more inclined to use angular and geometrical shapes than the modern soft and more realistic ones anime adopted, you probably also want to study some basics of shape design to understand how and why the eyes and shapes work the way the work for expressions and character design.

Can someone with a better understanding of art and animation than me please explain to me why the faux anime style (think Netflix shit or Korra) is so bland/off-putting?
>>6110814They are low budget productions done by teams of inexperienced/overstretched/underpaid staff (just corporate-capitalist stuff in general) with the majority of the animation "legwork" outsourced to Korean animation studios. Do not get me wrong those Korean animation studios are good but if the fundamentals are bad then the frame to frame animation will not make up for it.Netflix at the core is just a streaming platform that is desperately experimenting with trying to produce their own material to validate themselves and to have fresh material on their platform that requires less royalty payment for other IP owners thus more income to Netflix. It doesn't matter if it is shit, the point is that they have SOMETHING to keep the subscribers on board.

>>6112476woah great advice
>>6107307trying new material
>>6112268>>6112289if what you want to draw is anime then technically this would be place for you to post, if you already grinded your fundies on beg that is, as why do i ask if the sketchs are referenced is because you need to be able to have a medium-high 3D spatial sense, being able to see in 3D is key if you want to deconstruct which is what you need if you want to learn to draw anime, if they aren't you might need to grind a little more, but if they are then is to soon to start stylizing without your drawings look like garbage because your current level is not there yet if this what you can do with refs. the inconsistency i mentioned was in some of your sketchs you put more details than others like the girl on the top right, the torso and right arm have no form unlike the girl on the bottom right, half of the poses you drew are really stiff, it looks more like you are practicing gesture and just adding details from the refs because some are more poorly drawn than others.
>>6112493I suppose some poses im just worse or got lazier at
>>6112490you gave up on the bg isnt? kek, but still looks good, the hanging arm looks unnaturally tisff, and the right leg looks broken to me, and if it isnt is a really akward way to stand maybe putting the more in front of the other would look more natural, i would suggest to make her hands more uhhh busy? is kinda boring also if you lift the left a bit theres more view of her tummy and thats always a plus, also you could make her look at the viewer for more connection feel
>>6112511>>6112493https://imgur.com/a/lIwjUOnthese are from the last month if you care to scroll through
>>6112538if you are going to draw anime you need to be kinda good at deconstructing, thats why i said that being able to see things in 3D is important, anime isn't a single style so you will never find a ''how to'' that will work for everything it will be mostly basics like loomis variants type of things, so you will need to be able to deconstruct anything to be able to recreate it from zero, completely different from just copying, to make it short if you can draw something like this pic and be able to turn it at any angle with no problem you are more than ready, just pick your style, collect tons of refs ,deconstruc it and draw it againg from different angles if possible and compare if it looks like the source, thats basically all.the works in your link desu look really beg in the sense that they look lazy and half assed, i don't think it would be a good idea to jump into styliization right now , you don't seem to have the basics down yet so if you post cringe you are more likely to be told roomis or some shit like that mostly because nobody wants to parrot the same shit tha has been told millions of times to beginners like im doing now, just so you klnow.
>>6112538>>6110913Like just draw. I get what the other guy was trying to say but honestly your sketches don't look super beg as in with no understanding at all of the fundies. And he's trying to tell you to get to int level before stylization. To each their own but I think you shouldn’t bother, just draw what you want and study on the side. Draw lots of anime if you want but also study from real refs is what I mean, that way you will know how to improve your anime art as you go. Honestly I think you're already better than a lot of anons in this general already
>>6112641i understand perspective, and i understand 3d form at least on a conceptional leveli'm just not sure how to really improve my current understanding of deconstructioni guess i should be just practicing drawing bodies from imaginationbut im not usually sure if those end up good enough or not. or really how to really practice that in a efficient way
>>6112447thumbnail on phone looks interesting
>>6110549Honestly the soft vibes of the original sketch were more appealing. I feel the more artificial/cel approach took away from the final product.
>>6107307Serious question, how easy is it to sell something like this? Or is this just a portfolio piece and you're still forced to do emote and porn commissions, if not slaving over some shitty comic for minimum wage flat out?
>>6113057A little manipulation can get you so far
am i learning yet. trying to think of the eye as a 3d form helps a bit. i have to practice more.
>>6113089My grandma showed me that. She could go to any young tourist guy in the street asking to be helped to to walk up the stairs, then offer to pay him a money reward, give him a large bill, then ask him to change it for her, and by the end she'd walk up with more money than she gave him. She did it 3 times in a row. That said, it has nothing to do with art. I'm asking about a straightforward transaction. Op's pic shows some clear skill. I'm asking if that's an easy sell or you're still reduced to conman tricks vs minimum wage.

>>6112118At your level I always used Amazon Basics Colored Pencils. They are very cheap and only look marginally duller than prismacolors or fabercastells. They are also firm so they dont break off when you are sharpening them, and are easier to make look smooth than crayola or craZart pencils.

>>6114381hi any tips on how to draw eyes?
>>6114385Thanks anon>>6114399Uhm... i think you need to learn the anatomy of the eye then play around with the elements or shapes( omitting details or changing sizes) without breaking the general construction till it looks good enough for you.Or just copy the shapes of the eyes of your favorite drawing style keeping in mind the anatomy or form
>>6114437will keep that in mindthanks

>>6115274What loomis does to a person, yikes
>>6115280yeah but you are not deconstructing here the loomis head genius, you are trying to break down Kubos style of the head, you cant have a proper breakdown by only using one side view, for instance you can't tell whats the distance between the eyes, how wide is the nose bridge and such, if you relay on loomis to fill these gaps you are gonna end up with a fucking loomis head rather than kubos style, isn't that obvious.

It's a simple trick of having the guy change the larger bill, then ask him to keep most of the change anyway, then say she is getting confused that she is old and needs to buy medicine for her pain. Then she picks the bills from the guy's hand and makes him look her in the eyes while she says he can still keep the extra and start saying "thank you thank you thank you". I am having doubts about my progress and whether I'm suited for art, how long does it usually take to get out of /beg/ phase and be decent?
>>6120881post workIt depends on how are you going about, is full study and is the study being done correctly done? but usually the first 1 or 2 years is wasted with close to no gains after that it really comes the progress
>>6121010This is around 9 months of progress. There is a mix of study and my own stuff here.
>>6121039the difference between your studies and your own work is clear, you are not really retaining a lot of what you are studying, you are trying to incorporate too much without realizing it, your fundies are way too underdeveloped to integrate your studies completely well.
>>6121062>the difference between your studies and your own work is clearWhat should I be doing to close the gap? Do the study subjects need to be simpler? >trying to incorporate too much without realizing itI'm guessing I should break things down and focus on studying individual subjects>fundies are way too underdevelopedThis is the vaguest part for me, what should I be doing to improve fundies? Went to /beg/ but they just said to keep drawing, so I kept drawing but feeling confused the entire time.
>>6121071you are not retaining that well whatever you are trying to implement to your own works, theres tons of differences for a instance look at the blode girl with the ponyt tail, her shading and lights from her hair are not the same from your other works if they werent studies like the red aired girl, you style is inconsistent from cell shading to soft shading to implement different tones of cell shading like in the arms and neck, the bottom girl has the same issues but even more inconsistent in one feet you do hard cell shadings but in the other is soft same in the skirt, it makes the whole shading look off, same with the other ninja girl is almost all soft shading, and this is all not even mentioned the bad source of lighhting and anatomy.
>>6119593so I guess 100 opacity and flow is the proper way
>>6121107I don't know what to make of all this but if I can try to summarise this up you're telling me I'm NGMI. Where do I even go from here? Would I be better off trying to find a teacher IRL? Or am I going the way of Chris chan and better off doing something else?

Is this more or less what Krenz meant by copying? Should I maybe finish it up by trying to make it into proper lineart or is it fine this messy? There's many ways to go about copying stuff and I'm not convinced every one is a good idea. Also I get that this is meant to develop accuracy, sensitivity to line angles and knowledge of attractive shapes, but how do I know when it's time to move on and to what?
>>6121647forgot the originalhttps://exhentai.org/s/3b25ba8588/2155734-63
>>6121647depend on where you atif you're still struggling with accuracy, spending a lot of time polishing line art won't help

>>6121647If you want a number, properly do about 100 copies within 3 months and if you’re not a ngmi you should be good to go

>>6118840Blog?sorry can't help
>>6121265for a doodle looks fun
>>6122432Not me, just posting as an example. That's shonocondo.
Frens, I need some lineart help. My fundies and structure needs work, but I feel like I keep missing the ball on manga-esque lineart. This is something I posted in another thread yesterday and how I currently do it. I do thicker lines for the outlines, thinner on the insides, and shade occlusion areas. But it doesn't seem to match up with stuff I see in manga, and I'm not sure what the difference is.
>>6122806You're on a good path, but try copying manga
>>6122867How'd you do those screen tones? Is there something you can do in csp for that?
>>6122868Yeah, it's csp. https://www.clip-studio.com/site/gd_en/csp/startupguide/csp_startup/CSPaint_04/Chapter04_9_1.htm

Done. How did I do?
>>6122654tyI think painting studies and trying to ingrain how light works is your best bet here. This and thinking in shapes.
>>6123007there's probably more but this is the one that jumped to me immediately, you gottay try understanding what each line means why it is where it is. you just completely erased her jaw
>>6122911>Tells people to stop posting ugly art to the internet>proceeds to post pedo tier shit
How do I get consistent with drawing heads and faces? Every time I try one it comes out looking different. I tried drawing 3 heads with diffferent hairstyles and each one looks like a different character. Haven't even tried to change the angle and the problem is already apparent
>>6123274the cheek and eyes are different between 3 drawing
>>6121789what's stopping you?
>>6123144This is kinda sound retarded, but I'm not getting the jump to painting over lineart. As in, I'm used to lowering sketch opacity and coloring over. Whenever I try to just paint over it looks so shit I bring the lineart/sketch back up. I guess I just am struggling to get to clean up part bc it looks so shit at that point.
>>6121107I've seen artwork that uses both hard shadows and soft shadows together. Should I give up on trying to do soft shading for the moment and just try doing only cell shading as I attempt to render?
>>6123313vague values are things every /beg/ needs to break himself of. soft edges tend to get in the way of that goal.
>>6107307I will show you now why I have only 3 fingers
I find it extremely difficult to draw hair in one stroke from a purely technical standpoint. I can't get my hand to create the line I want to create, it is always bent too much or bent in the wrong part of the length. Are there any hand dexterity exercises I can do to fix this problem?

>>6123848Draw your ideas when inspired. If you're out of it, do studies; You're never done learning. Apply the skills you're learning from your studies into a piece. Identify your weaknesses and address them. Don't over complicate it, you should never be asking what to draw.
>>6124178Just noticed how bad I fucked up the arms' length here
>>6124178Did you use a reference anon? You should at this level.
>>6124242I do but for the upper part I strayed from it and it showsThe lower part I copied and came out much better
https://gelbooru.com/index.php?page=post&s=view&id=5471141Damn lineart takes a long time. Though that's to be expected since it's the first time I'm really doing it, but I'll try to find simpler pictures for now. Despite having to change the face shape a bit to accommodate for the smaller mistakes I made earlier I'm pretty happy how it turned out.>>6121653I've recently gotten a bit better so I got cocky but attempting this drawing I screwed the face up and had to improvise. Lesson learned I guess pay more attention to the head early on and maybe even start the lineart with it.>>6121859I actually like it, it's something pretty measurable. Though I'm not sure if I can manage that many in 3 months.>>6121877Yeah I get that studies are great at any point of mastery but what I meant was moving to making your own shit.
>>6123807I just did a mix of things like figure drawing, copying artwork, etc. pretty much standard /beg/ stuff. I've recently been trying to render, it's as the other anon said I don't have a full grasp of fundies so what I extracted from those studies was just how to recreate the brush effects, when I started I didn't even know what basic shit like blurring and hard/soft edges were and also spent some time just learning the software I'm using (CSP)
While I'm not good at it I do love to hatch, It's very fun but figuring out how things would reflect and where the shadows should be is hard for me to realize. Also Toriyamas big head small body is easy for me to draw since I always end up making the head too big lol.

>>6125347why do you expect others to post work when you cant
>>6124915theres tons of beg errors, but the face is beyond fucked up, the right eye is too forward and the jaw is ultra largeand the right hand is backwards. you should try to avoid drawing symetricly when youa re doing clothes it looks unnatural usually clothing is never perfectly symetric, and you using a lot of straifght linesv together making uhhhh the whole drawing hard to read, try to mixing it up with some curvy lines if possible, ovbiously you wouldnt do that with things that are straight like a box, also she looks like shes falling.

I drew an anime girl. How does it look? Is she deformed, or did I do okay this time?>>6126994Looks pretty good overall, but the face has some mistakes that even I can spot. Her brow ridge and eye are separated. Her left eye looks weird floating on her face like that. The lower half of her face looks too tall as well, you've given her a giant chin (too much space between chin and mouth). I love the hat though.
