Clouds are too bussin though my friend. If I was an painter I would have made them more stylized, think of minecraft clouds for example. But otherwise I've been vibing with this artwork, maybe except for the cawboys. There are no POC. I mean, common. It's 2022.

>>6123380fr look at those bussin ass clouds dawg theyre straight BOOLIN i hope you get hit by a truck tomorrow

>>6123380they actually used a time machine to go back and take a photo, theres a documentary about it called back to the future 3
>>6123527Do you think he used some ancient Teslas dove-driven Ai perhaps?
>>6123413looks fake af fr
>>6123534I just watched Back to the Future Part 3 by Christopher Lloyd (1990) HD. You are lying. It was not a documentary, it was a regular Hollywood movie. Don't waste your time on it Anons, it's fiction, just another movie produced by Cern.
>>6123661Doc Brown here. This anon is a lying piece of shit. Do not trust him.

>>6123380OP's retarded zoomer brain aside, this painting always pissed me off since the clouds are under the horizon
>>6123821Can't unsee, thanks faggot.
>>6123380>cowboy timesyeah no that's a modern painting, the artist only started painting these scenes in 2014, so it's no older than that
>>6123540FWIW, some clouds really do look like this. I've saw real life clouds so hideous they would look incredibly synthetic and fake if painted
>"The Journey West", Mark Maggiori, 36" x 36" Oil on Linen, 2017.
>>6124005>there's still master painters out thereI thought the medium had been lost for good
>>6123380maybe the artist actually WENT OUTSIDE and observed! THE HORROR!!!
>>6123380I drew it.
It's very interesting how cowboy and wild west paintings are this whole genre in contemporary art.

>>6123380Facepalm... You don't know how people made art before the 20th century? You know there are history books. You can like, read and learn, or something.I want to know something. I know, I'll ask total strangers on the internet, wait a long time, maybe get some reliable answers mixed in with a ton of trolls. I won't just google it, or go to the library. I won't bother to look for reliable sources.I don't get these people. School obviously didn't teach them how to learn, and their parents raised them wrong.
>>6125501fr fr no cap
>>6123380It was made poorly, that's for sure.Technically, it's very good, except for the fact that the clouds go below the horizon. That should only work if these are the tops of very large, distant clouds. From a historical perspective, it's a hot mess. Most glaring is the setting: no emigrant trails crossed the Colorado Plateau. Is this the Grand Canyon? If so, this is just plain goofy; today it's one of the West's main attractions, but in the 19th century it was a hardly-known no-mans land far from any habitable land. Also, oxen pulled conestoga wagons, not horses, and the tarps on the wagons were often painted with slogans or designs; the paint faded off with time, which is why surviving wagon tarps are white. Those painted tarps were mainly seen on the emigrant trails (the Oregon and California trails), which were traversed by civilians, and seldom traveled this orderly, with wagons so close together, and, again, would never have seen this scenery. Also, the boots are anachronistic.
>>6126606pyw
>>6126606Holy fuck I never read something this deluded before and boy I've read a LOT of shit on this godforsaken board.
>>6126606I dare you to send that (assuming it's 100% correct) to the artist
>>6123380this is a modern painting ya fecking eejit. painted by that hack who makes art for movies. all his pieces are soulless cowboy kitsch with very comfy clouds. the clouds are the only thing i like in his art. but yeah this isn't old at all. very modern. like 10 years old.
>>6123821lmao you just pointed out a very important flaw. this painting would get laughed at in the past.
>>6124079Jesus dude... you are so ignorant. this dude is shit compared to the masters out there today. this dude isn't even a master at all. you know jack shit about art if you think this is a masterpiece of any kind. it's not even good its corporate vanilla art. there's no emotion in any of this.
fuck that look at this its good western art
>>6123380Why is white culture so boring
>>6126630Hey, if you're going to paint a historical event, the least you could do is get the facts right. It would be acceptable if this were painted in the 1950s, when corny cowboy culture ruled, and you actually had to read books for information, but there's no excuse for not doing research in 2017, with the internet making everything so easy, with the idealistic vision of the West giving way to realism. With an accurate depiction of history, you can imagine yourself there. With an inaccurate depiction, you're too distracted by the flaws.
>>6127121Because you haven't seriously took the time to study it
>>6127153the western is an idealized fantasy, anonlike medieval age or eastern fantasy.
>>6127121where are you from? this isn't white culture. this is american culture. the purpose of american culture is to be superficial, vapid, and stylish. nothing more.
>>6123380zoomers can't comprehend visualizing and drawing from that
>>6127109is Steve Huston a master

>>6128503Same reason people used not to draw vaginas and penises on figure studies
>>6127801PRetty interesting to see just how opaquely he painted everything. Very little blending going on. Almost looks like gouache instead of oil.
>>6128690I thought this one was digital, had to check his website to confirm: those are indeed oils on canvas
>>6127801wich AI did you used to create this beautiful image? looks amazing. how many minutes it took you to create it?
>>6123380My salty ass thought he was stealing the art of other western painters like he had during his animation days. However I trust the people on Catsuka would have called him out about that, instead they have a disclaimer about his past activity on the site: https://www.catsuka.com/special/maggiori/
>>6127801>>6124005god I hate that wild west shitthere is something so utterly repulsive and offensively boring about that genre, I stay away from any media with that setting even if it has good reviews and ratings.
>>6132780that's what makes nice tho. It's so boring and generic u could literally add anything to it and make it something new. Add robots, it's now steampunk. Add vampires, it's now dark fantasy.
>>6132780Yeah because anime is riveting and very original right.
>>6132804who tf mentioned anime, also anime is not a 'genre'
>>6131233>>6132780What's that about plagiarized animation by him? First I've heard of it. My frog is rusty and I'm tired.
>>6132809Sorry didn't mean to quote >>6132805Also you're a retard
>>6132802Yeah but steampunk is better in a english victorian setting. Dark fantasy is better literally anywhere else than in the wild west. Be it medieval europe, victorian era Britain, arabia/persia, japan...Wild west feels like I'm on mars with a silly hat and silly shoes.>>6132815Again, who tf mentioned anime? Calling others retard doesn't divert from the fact that you are retarded.
>>6123380personally I don't find it that impressive if you use photo reference to directly copy something, using it to get the idea right is fine however, however a complete copy of the structure is lame
>>6131233>>6133990dunno but he's certainly reusing the same cloud reference picture in multiple paintings
>>6133990he's painting the same characters in the same time frame from different perspectives, that's why the clouds are the same
>>6134687uhhh
>>6134923
>>6124005Maggiori was at the Penningen art school then toured with his nu-metal band (Pleymo). After that he tried to make an anime for french tv but the project was cancelled right after he posted some of the first backgrounds because it was a straight rip-off of Ghibli. Everybody laughed at it so he made a single with his band just to whine about it.
