I am trying to learn to draw vehicles in perspective, the teacher says to do simplified block-like drawings to start getting it.

This is meant to be a tractor, does it read like so?
>>
I guess, but nowadays I'd expect a tractor to have a covered cabin
>>
Your teacher sounds like a brainlet fuckwit because thats what every aphantasia NGMI says to do
No it doesnt look like a tractor it looks like constructoid cope
>>
negative soul...
>>
>>6125130
I mean Kind of. Once you get the wheels in there and remove the squares around them, then it'll start to look more like one.

>>6125136
>Your teacher sounds like a brainlet fuckwit because thats what every aphantasia NGMI says to do

Every teacher says to start off with simplified shapes when doing vehicles and other machines. It helps you plot out where to start laying everything in even if OP's doesn't look the best.

This is pretty basic stuff when you get to this point.
>>
>>6125136
You will never gonna make it. Loser.
>>
>>6125130
Based Robertsonpilled OP.
>>
>>6125130
yeah. I didn’t even read your post and my mind fill in the gaps for me
>>
>does it look like X?
Here's a better exercise: copy a picture of a tractor.
Then draw the same picture again, but using these cubes instead of detailing the forms.

Now you know how to construct a tractor.
>>
>>6125141
Of course every teacher says to do it, because theyre a fucking teacher, they failed at art and that was their only option left
>>6125147
The truth will set you free even if at first it makes you seethe
>>
>>6125162
Never
>>
>>6125130
draw through
>>
>>6125130
Making that would take you 5 minutes in sketchup.
>>
>>6125162
>Of course every teacher says to do it, because they're a fucking teacher, they failed at art and that was their only option left

So then why shouldn't someone listen to a teacher on this especially if they show they have the ability to draw the subject matter?
>>
Is this a bit more presentable? I am struggling with the exercise ngl, I got 4 more of these things to make

>>6125148
>>6125141
>>6125134
Thanks guys
>>6125136
Why is that, what'd you recommend instead?
>>6125138
Yeah, I guess
>>
Oh Deere!
>>
>>6125169
If you really need it explained to you, you wouldnt get it anyway, constructoid
>>
>>6125166
>Deere!
Yeah, I am thinking the same but the teacher insists this exercise is a core fundamental that is too valuable because of being able to free hand or use it when designing
>>
>>6125172
So you have no actual answer then. Okay.
>>
>>6125170
use a real tractor reference
nothing about what youre doing makes any sense
real objects arent perfect boxes
>>
>>6125177
Yeah I know, but thats what the teacher wants rn, just basic, box like vehicles and nothing else, says the priority is learning construction and understand orthographics
it has 3 phases
1. Box like
2. More complex forms
3. Detailed
I am progressing through these phases each week, so next week it'll start looking more complex
>>
>>6125170
Because it is immediately obvious every single time without fail when a vehicle was drafted by a constructoid. All of the smaller details, the wheel hubs, the lights, windows, doors, trim and so on are drawn to fit inside the shitty disproportinate little boxes you drew, instead of being properly spaced . Also, it looks soulless every single time. My recommendation is to just draw the fucking tractor and quit being an autistic robertson about it, youll get there
>>
>>6125176
>why shouldnt you listen to someone who receives a paycheck based off your inabillity to draw
>why shouldnt you listen to someone who couldnt make it as an artist and had to teach instead
>>
>>6125182

You realize if you're a concept guy when your short little 3-month contract ends and you have no other skills you're finished, right? Do you know what some of these industry guys do in the meantime to make ends meet? They teach until they find something else.
>>
>>6125180
>All of the smaller details, the wheel hubs, the lights, windows, doors, trim and so on are drawn to fit inside the shitty disproportinate little boxes you drew, instead of being properly spaced
I think thats the point of the exercise tho, just to teach you how to move around in perspective axis in 2D
I can tell by the homework for next week that things start to look more complex and difficult, and week 9 they are making really cool looking and detailed stuff
>>
>>6125184
>>6125182
That Anon is right by the way, the teacher is Charles Lin and actually works in the industry
>>
>>6125187
I dont give a fuck who it is, these lessons are pure garbage dragged out to fit a semester
>>
>>6125203
Dragged out?
Bro, I am struggling to get all the work done week by week, I have to finish by the 28th and I am not even 30% done with all the workload, gotta figure out how to render spheres, and do like 5 A3 pages of sketches for clothing/fashion plus like 40 perspective thumbnails of environments
>>
>>6125203
You’re right about it being garbage but you’re wrong about those who can’t do, teach boomer logic. Such a concept doesn’t apply in the arts when your employment depends on how useful you are in each pipeline of the product.
>>
>>6125130
Don't listen to the guys telling you construction is bad, they're just butthurt because someone told them they should practice construction in an argument once and sometimes they spam the board with anime-themed anti-construction threads. Drawing from reference is also a good option, and you could try doing both and see which one you like more.

>>6125170
I like these ones, they're like little animals.
>>
>>6125218
Thanks Anon, I appreciate it
I'll try to make the next ones better
>>
>>6125187
just saw his artstation, he's... not good
>>
>>6125130
I was thinking more an old-timey racecar but sure
>>
>>6125177
>real objects arent perfect boxes
Nobody says they are
but any object has only 3 dimensions and therefore can be enclosed in a box
>>
it perfectly reads tractor to me op.

I mean, he is a concept artist not an illustrator, the stuff he makes might not be the most polished stuff but the design is there and looks pretty rad
>>
>>6125182
>why shouldnt you listen to someone who couldnt make it as an artist and had to teach instead

This doesn't make sense because a lot of good artists do teach. Where do you think all of these courses /ic/ hoards come from? Even then OP is most likely taking a class where a teacher that didn't actually have any practical knowledge on the subject they teach wouldn't get hired for it.

Sure, bro that sounds sick
I don't have any pics in particular tho, what I am doing rn if going on google and typing ''Wooden Toy vehicles/truck/jeep..etc'' having a look at the proportions of any that catches my eyes, then drawing it on paper and pen to figure out a simple shape that looks acceptable to me with squares, then doiing it on photoshop

Here, like these images for example

You just prove my point even more. You know how a 3D software works but you can't use even if your life is on the line. You can only copy it and try to hide behind 100 layers of irony, but actually do something superior to what OP did? I don't see it. Pathetic.
>>
>>6128923
Literally what? I did as you asked, idiot. Are you asking me to sit here and replicate what the OP did 1:1? I can do that, too, clearly. But what would I win? Internet points? The original point was a quick mock-up that looks similar in nature that can be made in 5 minutes or less.
>>
>>6128927
I didn't asked you to do anything. If I remember correctly this all started when I said I like OP better and you tried to copy him to prove something, I have no idea what, and I brought it up that if you can only copy him and not do something better you have no idea why I liked OP better. I honestly have no idea why you are wasting your time doing all this, and failing I mind adding since OP still superior, do prove something to someone who doesn't really care and never really showed any interest.

I don't know with who you are talking to or what kinda of conversation you are having inside your head, but if you really think I asked you do something I would take a few steps back re-read this whole thread and stop and think about exactly you are doing here. Is almost creepy in my opinion, this is a 20 min conversation, I really don't know how you can distort your memories in such short period of time.

constructoid shit always looks so fucking bland boring soulless. good thing these eggheads are being replaced by AI. only real artists with actual souls and something to express will survive. good luck paying back those student loans you racked up at some art school when your heartless overly technical drawings are being shit out by a computer LMAO
